The Raiders have now lost 13 straight games to the Chargers after falling 24-16 on Sunday.
The Raiders offense fell short of 200 yards for the fifth time in the last seven games.
Raiders DE Matt Shaughnessy recorded the first sack of his NFL career and added five tackles.
Raiders RB Justin Fargas scored his first rushing touchdown in 115 carries dating back to the 2008 season.
Said Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha, “We came in saying, ‘This is going to be the game that, if we win it, now our
eyes are more set on the playoffs, because if you win your division, you’re in. Not being
able to win that, now we know that we got to reel out a good handful of
wins within the next five or six games.”
Mistakes kept the game closer than the Chargers would have liked, but the defense made stops late to seal the victory.
The Chargers scored touchdowns on each of their red zone trips, and RB LaDainian Tomlinson ran the ball in on both occasions.
WR Vincent Jackson had 103 yards receiving and became the first Chargers receiver to reach the 100-yard plateau four times in a season since Curtis Conway in 2001.
Said Chargers LB Stephen Cooper, “I
think now we found our knack and [defensive coordinator Ron] Rivera did a great job of
play-calling and pressuring the quarterback. If we do that, we will
be the defense of the old.”
