Last night, rumors were flying that Accorsi -- who recommended Kokinis for the job in January -- already is working again with the Browns.
"George's integrity and his strength as a young man is the same today as it was when I brought him to the Cleveland Browns as an intern," Accorsi told the Cleveland Plain Dealer in January. "What is different is that he has had 18 years' experience in every phase of the player personnel profession in the National Football League, from handling the 'reaction box,' a thankless, grueling assignment, to college scouting and running the Ravens' pro personnel department.
"He has been with a winning organization and had the privilege of working for Ozzie Newsome. He's qualified and the Cleveland Browns are in good hands."
For reasons still not completely known, the Browns concluded otherwise. But yet they're poised to rely on Accorsi's advice. At least one publication has reported that Accorsi has been hired as the new General Manager. WKYC, the NBC affiliate in Cleveland, has reported that Accorsi is actually mentoring Bernie Kosar, with the goal of making Kosar the G.M.
Hopefully, Kosar would manage a football team slightly better than he manages his personal finances.
The Plain Dealer just posted an article this morning saying the complete opposite of this
Florio, I can take the jokes about Mangini's weight, the organization's love affair with staph, and all the other piling on that you and your ilk engage in when covering the Browns.
But a cheap shot at Bernie Kosar? Dude, you really, truly, have zero class.
Kosar as a first time GM, would be likely to submit to the stubborn will of Fredo, while he gains experience in the field.
Lerner got this wrong, as he has gotten so many things wrong so many times. He fired the Kok when he should have fired the Man.
"a cheap shot at Bernie Kosar? Dude, you really, truly, have zero class."
How is this a cheap shot at Kosar? His inability to manage his own finances is relative to his potential performance as a GM on so many levels. How can you not see that?

That is hardly a cheap shot. It, s basic management tenet when hiring someone for a senior management position in your organization who has had a previous significant business or personal failure in the past. Why did it happen how did it happen, did the person learn anything, is he/she likely to make the same mistake with MY money/company.
That is the first question I would ask and Kosar is going to go through life dealing with questions like this. He better get used to it.
Besides it is the scarcasm we've come to expect from Florio.
Kosar has had financial trouble but much of it as a result of a divorice and unpaid loans/handhouts to ex teammates in trouble. Bernie is a good man who will admit to his financial mistakes. A lot of you people apparently think you will never experience finincial hard times. I hope you don't.
Kosar owes the browns $1.5M. I believe he has been working it off by swinging a mop at the Berea Ohio browns building, and the balance is now $1.499,950. Are you kidding me, kosar as GM?????
urbusted said it correctly.
Kosar has had numerous successful business ventures, so please check your facts.
He got screwed over in a divorce and by people he trusted. He's not a financial guru, he's an ex-football player.
He loves the Browns and the city of Cleveland, knows the game today and current personnel, and is a proven winner, fumbles and drives notwithstanding.
To dismiss Bernie's chances of being a successful GM because he ran into financial troubles is plain ignorant.
EVERY one of you Browns fans needs to WAKE UP! Bernie Kosar as GM is NOT the answer. Florio hit the nail on the head and if for one second you don't think he did, think again....if the guy can't manage his own finances, well then, there you have it...and it's just yet ANOTHER person that will be taking advantage of Randy Lerner's money...or should I say his father's money...financial hard times don't come as a result of divorce or handouts to ex-teammates...that my friends is called bad money management, plain and simple...financial hard times come from no-fault of one's own...not bad decision making. Lerner needs to start making better decisions...there are so many people on his books collecting money that I would venture to say it's more than his current staff. It's only a matter of time before the cash is all gone. Poor Al. Sell Randy, sell....let someone take over who knows what they are doing in the football business, that person is not you and never will be.
it is a cheap shot at kosar....he's loaned more than seven figures to struggling former teammates....his generosity was part of his trouble...truth is, if these former teammates paid back the $$$ bernie would be finacially stable again....
