In the wake of the Chargers’ abrupt but not surprising decision to release him, receiver Chris Chambers explained that, in his view, the move was influenced by an issue unrelated to his skills and abilities.
Specifically, Chambers thinks that the team believed a relationship between himself and a woman caused some to believe that his performance was suffering.
“I thought the team gave up on me a little quick — for factors that don’t
have to deal with football,” Chambers told Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune. “I guess it created a distraction
upstairs. I kept my head on straight. We all go through things. I did my best
to not have my personal life and football clash. They know a little too much of
my life, and they used it against me.”
Chambers offered no specifics. We vaguely recall hearing something about a woman who apparently was causing some sort of trouble for Chambers, but that e-mail is long since deleted. (Maybe whoever sent us the information will send it again.)
Regardless, the Chargers are now completely off the hook. With the Chiefs claiming Chambers’ contract on waivers, the Chargers are not responsible for any ongoing payments.
In fact, the Chargers emerge from the experience $100 richer, due to the standard waiver fee that has remained at that level for decades.
I think the Off-Field issues in his life made it much easier for the Chargers to part ways with him. He wasn’t performing on the field and they have a young prospect in Malcolm Floyd who they are anxious to see. I doubt the off field stuff was the reason but it sure didn’t convince them to keep him around, the Chargers have a shot at the playoffs and the last thing they need is distractions around the locker room. Good move on the part of the Chargers.

Chris’ long time mistress Stacey Bernice has supposedly lied about being pregnant with his baby and has been stalking Chris and his wife. He had to take out a temporary restraining order recently. We looked up Stacey’s record and for a 27 year old, homegirl has a rap sheet of domestic violence, battery, and foolishness when it comes to Chris.
Here’s the lowdown on the drama we were sent: Stacey Saunders has relentlessly harassed and threatened Chambers’ wife, sister and mother-in-law for the last 3 months through vulgar and explicit emails, text messages and phone calls/ voicemail messages. Included in these messages are repulsive comments about Chambers’ own 2 year old son and wife who have been together 11 years and married for nearly 3 years. Mrs. Chambers currently has a case against the woman. Mrs. Chambers also reached out to the media for help in obtaining an order of protection against this woman. Mrs. Chambers has also been forced to upgrade the security system on their home and hire private security to sit outside the home after Stacey Saunders threatened to show up. According to sources, Chambers continued to pursue a relationship with this woman despite her threats and harassment to his family. Only recently has Chambers signed a request for a permanent restraining order against Stacey Saunders after she repeatedly called the Chargers’ practice facility making derogatory comments about Chambers. She even threatens to reveal information about Chambers’ private life on the internet if he does not comply with her financial demands.
Stacey Saunders also claims to have given birth to a child fathered by Chambers in November 2008 insisting that it died at 2 months old. A private investigator found, however, that no birth or death certificate exists for the alleged child confirming that Saunders faked an entire pregnancy, birth, and death for the nonexistent child. Chambers’ had never seen the alleged child. Stacey Saunders alleges that she is once again pregnant by Chambers, but sources speculate that this is a false pregnancy also. She also claims to have been a dental hygenist, but there is no record of her ever having a dental hygenist license in the state of Florida.
That should be quite a culture shock for Chambers, going from a team full of self-indulged underachievers to a stalag full of bums.

Merriman wouldn’t let her leave since she wasn’t in the right mind and could do some damage since she wanted to leave in a car. Shawne stole her keys and hid them from her, which is very reasonable to do to a friend who is drunk and unreasonable, and she said that he “kidnapped” her because he took and hid her keys. With the Chargers in the position they are (standings) one would think it should take an awful lot to let this guy go. Is he bipolar? Bisexual? Biplane?
We had to put up with stone hands for years here in Miami but to think this is the reason Chambers thinks SD got rid of him is absurd.
Maybe it was because he was thrown to 26 times with only 9 receptions…for one of the lowest catch percentages in the NFL at 34.6 %…Maybe Chambers should look at his own stats

ok. facts are facts. Merriman is, in fact, a “steroid monkey”. And you completely failed to read my post. The levels of Nandrolone that was in his system was not consistent of actual anabolic steroid use. More consistent, however, of a otc PowerBar that, in fact, has Nandrolone in it but since it’s under 4% of the active ingredience PowerBar does not have to put Nandrolone on the label. Even Goddell came to Shawne’s defense because of the false and premature ESPN reporting that was conducted. The fact is Mortenson reported about Merriman’s suspension before the league even suspended Merriman. Merriman was still owed his appeal and an explination. He was never given that because of Mortenson. And like I said in another post, Julius Peppers was suspended for a high amount of Nandrolone in his system, but no one calls Peppers a steroid head, do they?
And, no, Merriman did NOT beat Tila Tequila. ALL wittnesses, including her friends, said she was drunk, wanted to drive home drunk and naked and Merriman took her keys to save her life. He then got hemmed up on kidnapping charges. She then said he choked her yet had no bruises on her neck, only a small “bruise” on her arm that looks like foundation rather than a bruise.

and tila tequila is heinously ugly. she needs to be beaten more, imo. i thought she was a dude? that allegation against merriman was one of the times i supported the offense. he should have finished the job, really.
