Ginn gets AFC special teams award

To little surprise, the man who delivered virtually on his own a win over the New York Jets has been recognized by the league as the AFC’s special teams player of the week.

For Ted Ginn, his two 100-plus-yard kickoffs returns couldn’t have come at a better time.  He had been demoted from the starting lineup on offense, and former Dolphins players had publicly ripped him.

One called Ginn. who has developed a bad habit of dropping passes, “an embarrassment and a coward.”

For at least one week, Ginn has acquired a much more flattering label.

Whether it was temporary remains to be seen.

Ginn has extraordinary talent, Dolphins have to find a way to make him consistant in the offense…….He’s kinda like having a Great car and cant drive it.

As a hard core Dolphins fan I admit that while down on Ginn at times, I have never gave up hope. I cant hate the guy cause to hate him means that I want to see him fail…like I hate the Jets. He really has only played 3-4 games with a QB that fits his play so there is still plenty of time for him to improve. But he flat out cant drop passes like he has this season. We shouldve beat the Colts and the Saints…the two best teams in the NFL

schism – take their time? ginn’s in his third year now, he’s had plenty of time.
his skillset is in the return game only, really. when you try to make him your #1, that’s when you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.
congrats to ginn though, he deserves it after that performance.

How about ButtHole of the Week award. It would weekly go to Fatzo Ryan and his Boisterous Bunch would be able to celebrate with him.

Ginn just isn’t a #1 receiver. What he is, is a guy with tremendous speed who can get behind the secondary (corners, safeties, and all) multiple times in a game… and a guy who – if not smothered before he can get up to speed – can take it to the house on any return.
Oh… and he’s done more in last Sunday’s game – than Brady f’n Quinn has in his entire career. That may not be pick #9 worthy… but it ain’t chopped liver either. Put a genuine #1 receiver on the field WITH Ginn – and suddenly DC’s around the league are gonna be getting a heck of a lot less sleep.
The issue the Dolphins have right now, is a young QB (with a load of possession type mediocre receivers – and one speed merchant in Ginn) who needs to find a way to back off defenses who are putting 8 and 9 guys in the box to stop Miami’s running game. Difficult problem.

Sure, why not? Ryan himself has the “all hat, and no cattle” award sewn up this year. :)
