Vincent Jackson's DUI case on hold

Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson was arrested for drunk driving in January, and his case has been held up since by a request to throw away the blood-alcohol evidence against him.

A judge rejected that request and Jackson’s appeal to that ruling was recently thrown out as “premature” according to the San Diego-Union Tribune.

The upshot is that all of the delays should extend the case past this NFL season.  “I’m just going to continue it until after the season is over,” Jackson’s attorney Cole Casey said.
“Then we’ll decide from a legal standpoint what to do from
there.”

Jackson will have to deal with the arrest eventually, but he’s having a career year on the field.  He’s among the top five in the league in receiving yards (664) and yards per catch (17.9).

Under the terms of the old collective bargaining agreement, Jackson was set to hit unrestricted free agency in 2010.

I wonder how many of us little people can get our DUI cases pushed back because it’s more convenient for our jobs.
It’s especially outrageous to grant such a continuance given that he’s on probation from a 2006 DUI.

Hopefully the judge won’t see that it’s such a great thing to just “continue it till after the season”.

I met Vince one night while partying at the University of Northern Colorado back in the day. The guy is huge. But when you play for San Diego, bad karma comes your way.

He tests out a over double the limit and he still hasn’t faced the music…and he’s on probation for a previous DUI.
It stems from his lawyer saying they shouldn’t be allowed to use the blood sample.
So if you’re pulled over for DUI don’t blow into the breath testing device, say you don’t want blood tested & you’re home free.
Shakespeare had it right in Henry VI: “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers”.
    Nothing personal Florio.

More of a sign how badly the criminal justice system is screwed up more than anything. High paid lawyers can drag things out forever. When was the last time the breathalyzer was calibrated? How up to date is the officers training on its use?
Also consider you have policemen making 45k to 70k a year doing these traffic stops/arrests. What these same lawyers spend at strip clubs annually.
Most jurisdictions are requiring a degree to become an officer now, but the drawback is they have to pay them more and funds are limited with taxes.
