Wimbley fined for hit on Cutler

On Sunday, Browns linebacker Kamerion Wimbley drilled Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, causing Cutler to bite his tongue and bleed from his mouth.

On Wednesday, Wimbley said he found out he’d be fined $7,500 for the hit. Wimbley plans to appeal the fine, and he said he once had a fine reduced after appealing.

The hit came when Wimbley lowered his helmet and drilled Cutler in the chin, knocking him down on a play on which Cutler threw an incomplete pass. It drew a 15-yard penalty and helped the Bears drive down the field for a touchdown.

Asked if he thought the fine meant justice had been served, Cutler answered, “No. It doesn’t help me out any. He might lose a little bit of money, but that’s how it goes.”

  1. Maybe these QB’s should take a hint out of the rules of Pee-Wee-Varisty Football and wear a damn mouthguard. Idiot

  2. Brees took a pretty wicked helmet-to-facemask hit on Monday night that wasn’t flagged. I’m interested to know whether that hit will get a fine. I don’t remember who did the hitting though. Lofton?

It might be kind of difficult to call an audible with a mouthguard.

I don’t know how he didn’t break his jaw. Cutler is definitely tough.
His prodigious waddle cushioned the blow.

  5. Chapnasty, you’d have a point, except that trying to dictate a snap count and pre-snap arrangements loud enough for all your guys to hear isn’t an easy accomplishment with a mouth guard in.
Also, Cutler needs to call out almost every blitz for the Bears’ pathetic O-line. Heck, he might want to remind his O-line that defensive linemen will rush the QB on every play.
and NFCbeast, none of Cutler’s post-game interviews had anything to do with him spitting up blood following the play. In fact, he made a point to say that the Bears cannot rely on roughing the passer penalties to sustain their drive. No crying going on there.

  6. So guys get fined for not wearing the right color chin strap/guard, not having their socks high enough, and wearing the wrong hat on the sideline but NOT WEARING A MOUTH GUARD IS OK???

cuntler is the biggest crybaby I’ve seen play quaterback that i can remember. The guy gets pissy like a 14 year old girl who had her cellphone taken away when things dont go his way. Don’t say anything about being a perfectionist either, he can overthrow a guy by about 15 yards, and have the pass go out of bounds, and he acts like its the recievers fault. I wouldn’t be at all suprised if he started rolling around on the ground kicking his feet the next time he doesn’t get a flag for some BS roughing the pansy…….er, passer call. the dude is the biggest sissy playing QB in the league today, and thats saying something.
tough as a daisy in the early morning dew….

  8. Too bad his tongue didn’t pop off .Then we wouldn’t have to hear his whiny ass any more. Count the days Cuntler, Jared is coming for you!

  9. At least someone on the Browns defense is willing to bring the pain. Good for Wimbley for socking it to him. Cutler is a tough QB, he can take some hits.

  10. Why the f#ck isn’t the entire offensive line fined? They all suck with the possible exception of the aging Olin Kreutz (future HOF). Stop bitching about what QB the Bears have simply because the organization’s philosophy has never been about the QB. I couldn’t care less what WR’s we have … it begins and ends on the line. Football 101. All you pussy Denver fans need to let go of Cutler. He’s not there anymore. Deal with the fact that you’re just as much as a flash in the pan as the ’06 Bears. Different QB; same result. Reality 101.

  11. nobody cares about jared mullet ass percy, nor do we really give a shit about the vikings, as soon as favre is gone you guys will be back to the same hyped up preseason team that falls ever so shortly of the superbowl or playoffs every year with tjack, or sage, or whoever the hell else is garbage you guys put behind center. o well. I haven’t heard cutler whine a bit right?

  12. Vikings…farve…lol….it’s all fun and games until farva beans throws stupid picks in the playoffs to cost his team the win.

  13. @ GoBears84 – LOL That mullet be owning Cuntler! LOL Shit, Favre loves the Vikes. Be here til’ 2012. Then his student Tebow.

  14. This is a perfect example of how much favortism is shown to certain teams in the NFL by the gutless commissioner of the NFL. Last season Hines Ward(aka “THE DIRTIEST PLAYER IN FOOTBALL”) blocked Keith Rivers of the Bengals leading with his helmet. Hines broke the jaw of Keith and ended his season. Guess what, no fine for Hines and Commissioner Good(for nothing)all has defended the block of Hines several times in public. The block can probably be found on youtube if you want to see it. If I was Cameron I would take a copy of the block and my lawyer and drop the words lawsuit and favortism very liberally, at the appeal.
