Yes, the ref nodded at Brady, but as I said, the flag was already being thrown. The ref was saying, yeah, I got him..
Brady wasn’t calling for the flag. Had you actually WATCHED the game, you’d know that.

Guns527 – The tuck rule is called 3 to 4 times a year at a minimum. And NO, it wasn’t a fumble. As others have pointed out, that rule was called against the Pats during the 1st Pats/Jets game when Vinny T was thought to have fumbled. It was also called during the Rams / Jets game that year. And it has been called at least 4 times that I know of THIS year. You just can’t get over the fact you didn’t know the rules. You can say the NFL is corrupt, but that is your conspiracy theory.
SFrancis – I have news for you, the Ref is already throwing the flag before Brady turns around. In fact, if you’d actually watched the play, you’d know that Brady was PUMPING HIS FIST cause he already knew the flag was coming….
RoboNinja – I suggest you watch some Colts games. MANNING gets the calls his way significantly more than Brady does. To say that Brady gets more calls since he’s been injured is a joke and says you’ve not watch any Patriots games this year.
XXINYG – The Patriots did not cheat. In fact, the only RULE that was broken is that the Patriots had a camera set up on the field. That’s it. Video Taping Coaches isn’t illegal. Every team video tapes during the games. And they video tape the sidelines as well. They just do it from the prescribed areas in the stadium. You’d know this if you had bothered to study the rule in question and not just listen to the mediots. The other thing that got swept under the rug is that the JETS had 2 cameras set up on the sidelines during the same game in which they turned the Patriots in. Yet you never heard about that. Why? Cause Goodell, a former Jets employee, didn’t want to punish his old team.. Heck, just look at the slap on the wrist he got for the crud he pulled with the injury reports.
Reality is that people HATE winners… Especially when they are on the wrong end. And that’s why the FANS hate the Patriots.. Cause their teams have fallen victim to the Pats at one time or another. And most fans can’t get over the idea that the Pats actually got good.

How many of you ladies (sorry to those that actually are and pay attention, including you female Steelers fans) actually watch the games? Brady did this just once. One time, that’s it.
The Colts as a team, via Polian, had rules changed so Peyton and his receivers would get more room…did you knuckleheads forget this?
I’ll forgive most of you though, as more than likely you weren’t even watching the NFL then.
Look up at how many roughing the passer calls the Pats have received this year compared to the league…completely nullifies most of your angst against Brady you silly little girls.
At least Porter has a reason for his vitrial…he’s an over concussed moron.
But I do agree with Porter in this regard, offenses as a whole are protected to produce points. Read second paragraph of this post and you will see who is really behind this.

Well i for one am not looking forward to facing Tom Brady this weekend. He’ll eat our rookie secondary up. Brady gets the occassional preferential calls, but i think any franchise QB at that level would get that – i’m not crying foul.
i think joey has a point, but he needs to just shut the hell up and play.

Sure, Porter is running his mouth, as usual. What is not usual is that he is actually making sense this time.
What I find hilarious is the desparate need for Boston fans to be seen as “the scrappy underdogs”. Saying things like The Yankees bought the World Series, or the Mannings are the darlings of the NFL. Hilarious hypocrisy of deluded fans.
Sure, every QB pleads for flags when they are hit. However, no one actually gets the calls as much as Brady, and it has only gotten worse since his injury. To the people that defend it, saying he is a star player? Not true sports fans, I guess. True sports fans want to see compelling, even competition between atheletes.

I thought the “no blows on a QB’s knee” rule came after Cowher put a bounty on Carson Palmer’s knee that Kimo von Oelhoffen gladly collected? I agree that Brady gets special treatment, but so do the Steelers and I have to put up with that crap twice a year. Get over it and do something about it.
And then other times, referees just suck. For instance, when he was still a Bengal, Justin Smith got flagged a few years back when he played against Tampa Bay for sacking Bruce Gradkowski. Didn’t go to the head, didn’t go to the knee, but the ref felt he drove him to the ground. End up costing the Bengals the game, not that it mattered that year. So sometimes, refs just suck, but in Brady’s case, it happens too many weeks in a row on too many plays for all the refs to suck that much.

In order for this to be true you would have to believe that the NFL got all of the refs together and told them to call penalties to protect Tom Brady. Then the officials agreed, and began protecting Brady so that he wouldn’t get hurt. The refs get paid the same whether Brady gets hurt or Trent Edwards gets hurt. Which is probably why Edwards had just as many roughing calls as Brady last I checked.
The number of refs that want the Pats to win is probably equal to the number of football fans who want them to win. Not very many.

Whoever said that Brady wouldn’t survive in a different era, duh, neither would Manning or any of the rest of the current qb’s-Big Ben maybe excluded since his line sucks so badly. I’m a Pats fan and I agree that Brady-as well as the other top qb’s-do have some special treatment; that’s just the NFL today. If you don’t like it, stop watching. I’m pretty sure the Brady rules are unwritten. Here’s what I have devised of them so far:
-If Brady calls for a flag, he’s whining even if a player dives right at his knees. If DEs, WRs, etc do it, it’s justified.
-If Brady throws a TD pass in the 3rd quarter with the team up by 24 or more points, they are running up the score, but it’s ok for every other QB to do it when up by 4 TDs in the 4th quarter.
-Even though the rule still stands today and has been applied multiple times since, it was cheating when Brady benefitted from the Tuck Rule.
-If any defensive player intentionally tries to hurt Brady, it’s because he deserves it, and that player should be heralded.

By the way, every receiver, DE and quarterback looks for flags, it’s become part of the game. Brady’s not that special. If Suggs wasn’t going for the knees like they claim he would have been flagged for being below the waist anyways. His shoulders were at knee height or a little above. Still an illegal hit.

As a Patriots fan, I hold these truths to be self evident:
-The Patriots DID Cheat under the circumstances they were discovered under. Do I think they are the only ones who have tried to gain an advantage outside the rules? No, but they got caught so they are going to continue to be discredited for it, which is fine because everyone is intitled to their opinion.
-The Tom Brady rules are a joke but as fans we must live with it.
-All players lobby for flags, it happens all the time.
-With or without the rules, Brady is still great and so is Porter.
-Joey Porter is an a$$ sometimes but when it comes down to it he is good for the NFL Brand. This kind of talk creates interest. Don’t fault him for playing/acting like that, he brings an edgy-ness to the game.

With Brady, the NFL makes up rules as they go along. Maybe the NFL just really wants a rags to riches story like Brady, who went from being a 6th round pick to a future HoF QB. But it’s still unacceptable. The NFL makes more rules to protect the offense as a whole. How many ridiculous personal foul and late hit calls have we seen extend drives for the offense? Nothing wrong with what Porter said. It’s 100% correct.

EVERY SINGLE QB pleads for flags on passes that are knocked away or defensed well. And plenty of QBs who ask for flags for being hit also. NOT JUST BRADY. As for the hit by Suggs you all are referring to, if you’d actually WATCHED the game, you’d know that the Ref was already throwing the flag when Brady turned around and pumped his fist. That’s right. The flag was already being thrown. Brady didn’t have to “beg for the flag.”
…. actually if you watched the game. Tom calls for the flag, the ref make a confirmatory nod toward him and then tosses it. Its only a matter of time before someone takes Brady out again, hopefully this time its career ending so we can go back to regular football.

There are different rules applied to the patriots, by the fans that hate them, many of whom post idiotic stuff on this site. Brady gets a flag every time he points? How many times has that happened exactly? Once this year? After a guy tried to take out his knees? Receivers do this ALL THE TIME, why not whine about them? Oh yeah, different rules applied to the Patriots by fans.
Have you asked Brady about the rule? Have you read what he said about it? Of course not, because that would contradict what you think. Meanwhile you have Porter, who runs his mouth off, living in the past, and making excuses for his continual inability to do ANYTHING against the Patriots. Can’t be him, because he is great right? He is a dirty chump on and off the field. Sounds more like he is trying to get the refs to lay off this game so he can try and hurt Brady. Unfortunately, if history is any indication, he will never even get close. The Patriots kicking balls over your head while stretching? Poor baby, hope that ball didn’t scare you, pansy.
The league tried to sweep Spygate under the rug? Here I agree. They went after the Patriots in a major way, and completely ignored the fact that there was plenty of evidence that many other teams were doing it as well. All indication was that the Patriots had evidence of this, which is why the tapes were destroyed, because if the Colts and Jets, among others, were found out, it would have hurt the NFL horribly. Former coaches have admitted that they used to do this, and they knew that many other teams did it as well. The Jets were accused, and it was said by a good source that there was evidence (now destroyed). One coach said he was taught the technique by a coach then on the Colts staff. But no, everyone claim it was just the Pats, and no other team has ever cheated (by the way, that fact is debatable), or does anything against the rules. Just the Pats, right?
Add to that that expert after expert has come forward to say that it was pretty much a non-factor anyways. That taping does next to nothing as far as giving you an advantage. Add also that Kraft was one of the coaches that wanted defensive radios. Look at the stats folks, there is no statistical evidence that would indicate the Patriots had any knowledge that helped them from taping. It was a minor thing at best, and just BB being thorough in preparation. And yet all of the haters, who show their ignorance of football every time they open their mouths, will act like Glenn Beck, and only accept any statements that help their cause, ignore facts that prove otherwise, and make up the rest.
So the Pats are douches eh? Based on what? Besides the fact that they have whipped your team for a decade now? Do they mouth off? Nope. Do they brag, insult other teams or players? Nope. They give nothing but respect to the other guy. Yeah, they are bad people all right. Great to their fans, and respectful to their opponents, and act like professionals on and off the field. I guess you all would rather have people like Porter and Rex Ryan. People who can’t keep their foul mouths shut, and are great in their own minds but can’t produce when it counts.
So keep the idiocy going everyone! All it tells me is that the Patriots are still great, and you still fear them. It is glorious. Getting ready for the Patriots to kick butt on Sunday, and position themselves for another post season. Knowing all along that you spout hate, but you would change your tune in a heartbeat if it was announced that Bill was your new head coach, or Brady your new QB. heck, who wouldn’t want the undisputed best coach in the NFL, or the best QB in the NFL on their team. Well, WE have them, so keep hating! We will keep winning to fuel your hatred, and wonder what excuses you will make for our dominance next week!
