Sammy Morris expected to return in two weeks

Injury timelines are usually hard to come by in New England, but the Boston Herald reports that Patriots running back Sammy Morris should return to the lineup in two weeks for a game against the Jets.

Morris tore his MCL against Tennessee in Week Six, and will miss this week's game against the Dolphins and likely next week's contest against Indianapolis.

The Patriots are carrying two hurt backs; Fred Taylor appears to be out for even longer than Morris.  In the meantime the team will rely on Laurence Maroney, Kevin Faulk, and Benjarvus Green-Ellis aka "The Law Firm."

FootballOutsiders ranks New England's committee running attack as the seventh-most effective in the league.  They finished fourth last season.

Knowing the Patriots they probly know Morris isnt going to be ready for the Jets game but are putting it out there anyway just to mess with the Jets coaches and get them thinking about it.

good news for a team that cannot run the football to save their lives. morris will provide them with a tough downhill runner that they will need as the weather gets colder in New England. I wonder if Edge is being considered with taylor and morris out?

    nedirect,

Based on your comment about the Patriots running game and Edge's return to the NFL, you obviously haven't been watching the Seahweks or Patriots much this season. If you think James has anything left as a running back, then your probably from the same mindset at the Redskins were last year when they signed Shawn Alexander

nedirect - give up because you don't have a clue how the Patriots operate.

So if New England Can't run the football to save their lives. . . . Why are they ranked 7th?

A torn MCL? I know it's not the ACL, but you can play with that?

Anyhow, good point about Edge. I have to believe if he has anything left in the tank and the Pats need him, they will make a play for him. It's not like he's banged up. And they'd have him for the last eight or so games. It would almost be Roger Clemens-ish.

And don't forget it's about more than rushing the football. It's about blocking the pass rush. If Faulk hadn't been on suspension for the hippie lettuce, that hack Bernard Pollard would've never been able to hit Brady low...err...fall into him.

a team that cannot run the football to save their lives[sic]

NE is averaging 115 yds per game which is ninth in the AFC. I don't know that a journeyman like Morris will have a huge impact, but he will help.

The Pats do not need anymore running backs. They are doing just fine.

I found it interesting that this report also has the pats at number 1 for overall offense. I didn't realize that. I knew they were doing well, but didn't think they would get ranked ahead of NO or Ind.

Of course, they play both in the next four weeks, so we will know a lot more about how they stack up then.

The Football Outsiders have the Patriots ranked #1 OVERALL.

Of course, a couple huge blowouts will skew their numbers, but the bottom line is that the Patriots have been playing very well.
