When you're a rookie starting at quarterback in New York, you're going to get a level of media exposure that will feel overwhelming.
In the case of the Jets' rookie quarterback, Mark Sanchez, he was exposed to just about as much media as any college football player could be as the starting quarterback at USC. But even Sanchez says he's been taken aback at times by the media in New York.
"You know, it's different," Sanchez said on KLAC in Los Angeles, via SportsRadioInterviews.com. "They want to know exactly what's going on, and want inside scoops. They want, you know, it's almost like they want you to say something wrong, and it's almost like everyone's just kind of waiting. But everything's gone really well so far, so I'm playing things cautious, and playing them smart, and respecting my team and watching myself with what I say and how I act as much as possible."
Sanchez is right, of course, that a lot of reporters would love for him to say something wrong -- it makes for good copy if an athlete says something controversial. That's the case in cities other than New York, but it's magnified in New York because there are more reporters in New York.
Sanchez cites the ridiculous "controversy" over eating a hot dog on the sideline during the Jets' win over the Raiders as an example of something that the media blew out of proportion, but he says nothing will make him tone down his emotional approach on the field.
"I just get so excited and I get in to the emotions of the game," Sanchez said. "I'm just so thankful, and all the emotions come out every time you throw a touchdown."
Sanchez: N.Y. media "want you to say something wrong"

Living there it would be so tempting to feed nothing but bullshit to the media all the time. That would be so entertaining to just start talking about supposed internal team matters and just make it up as you go along. Maybe call out a teammate for something totally ridiculous. Man, that would be so fun. How do you NOT do that?
Wah! Wah! Wah! You are crying all the way to the bank.
First of all you are a Jet. That means you are the lowest form of existence.
Secondly, nobody here wants to hear you cry about how hard it is to be a sports figure in NYC. You should have done your homework before signing with them. If you didn't like what you saw, you could have opted for baseball or basket weaving.
Get out there and play and STFU!!!!!
He's right about the hot dog thing. One of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen the media try and make something out of.
Sanchez is 100% right. The media are paid to create controversy, because that increases ratings and readership which increases ad revenue.
It's usually in the player's interest to not say something "wrong."
Mark Sanchez is a classy, well-rounded guy with a good head for this stuff. You are out-foxed, media types.
Sanchez for the win. And I usually don't cheer for the Jets.
That is so true.
I for one like Sanchez (even if he is a mex).
I don't understand what the big deal is. If the QB is hungry, and eating a hotdog helps, what's the big deal?
Just the NY media making a story out of nothing.
Hey Mark, Give them what they want. Tell them that the Yankees Suck!
That will stir up the pot a little.
"""I just get so excited and I get in to the emotions of the game," Sanchez said. "I'm just so thankful, and all the emotions come out every time you throw a touchdown."""
All the emotions apparently come out when he can't cash a check as big as his teammates are writing with their mouths... as the hugging and petting the Sanchise and Braylon Edwards were engaged in on the sidelines after getting beaten by the Dolphins last week. Again. lol
@TrollToll: Last time I checked Sanchez was an American. Do you now something the rest of us don't? "even if he is a mex." Wow!
Started 12 games in college...
Not the tallest QB in the league. Can't see over the line. Guys like Drew Brees don't come along very often.
Over rated. Looks like he's gonna cry after every third down.
NYC Media can't wait for another overpaid failure.
Better call Ryan Leaf for advice.
The NY media is ridiculous
By George, I think he's got it!
@Sourdough
Someone has a hard time telling the difference between jokes and seriousness...
In this age where the very principles of this country is under attack by a radical religeous faction intent on world domination, we should stick together and not hold onto old prejudices. I am for anyone who upholds our ideals of freedom regardless of how they look. Here is to the 12.
They will also bill you up to be something you're not. Take the good with the bad kid, and shut up.

That wouldnt stir anything, there are about 400 writers for each team in NY and 95% of them arent from NY or have never played a sport a day in their lives. Look at any NYC paper and youll see how much they bash the yankees and every other team that plays in NY, that is their job.
The NY media is the TMZ of sports beat writers.

WHY AREN'T MORE PEOPLE HOLLERING ABOUT THIS RACIST REMARK? This is appalling and should have been removed long ago - along with the rights of Trolltoll to post -
Outfoxed...is your life literally so pathetic that you go onto other fans message boards just to complain and make fun of other teams players?
You're right, I'm sure Sanchez is laughing or crying all the way to the bank. But I'm also sure that he couldn't care less what a shmuck like you thinks....
