Lions take early lead in Seattle

Something is happening in the first quarter of today’s game in Seattle that has happened very, very rarely this decade: The Detroit Lions are dominating.

With less than a minute to go in the first quarter, the Lions are up 17-0, and the lead could be even bigger: A Jason Hanson 34-yard field goal attempt clanked off the goal post.

The Lions currently have 127 yards from scrimmage to 19 for Seattle and seven first downs to zero for the Seahawks. The closest the Seahawks have come to a first down came when they went for it on fourth-and-1 late in the first quarter, only to see the Lions stuff running back Julius Jones behind the line of scrimmage. Jones has minus-2 yards rushing on three carries.

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is looking calm and poised, completing 10 of 14 passes for 111 yards, with two touchdowns and no interceptions.

There’s still plenty of time for the Lions to find a way to lose, but in the early going, Detroit is whipping Seattle.
