Brady says Porter comments motivated Patriots

Trash talk stories like the ones fueled by Joey Porter last week usually seem a little silly and media driven.  Then a player like Tom Brady reminds us they are actually used for motivation.

“I think [Porter] was very motivating for our team throughout the course of the week and into the game. When you hear that kind of stuff, guys take it to heart, coaches to heart,” Brady said on WEEI Monday morning.

Whether that motivation really makes a difference is debatable, but it’s certainly been used by Bill Belichick during his career, like so many other coaches.  Brady went on to compliment Porter and look forward to the next Dolphins-Patriots game in a few weeks, but he knew that his team got the last laugh Sunday.

Despite missing a pair of starters on the offensive line, Porter was shut out of the box score.

Way to back that talk up, Peezy.

Spagnulo and Parcells are a couple of idiots for going out and getting Porter while leaving Matt Roth and Cameron Wake on the bench.
Putting Wake into games solves Dolphin pass rush problems. Its that easy…

  3. raybin says: Nov 9, 2009 11:07 AM

Nobody could’ve predicted the organization who uses bulletin board material more skillfully than any other in the league would use Porter’s jackoff comments as motivation.

  4. patsfanlisa says: Nov 9, 2009 11:07 AM

Porter doesn’t learn that the Patriots do their talking on the field. By the end of the game, they silently made him wish he had bitten his tongue off and swallowed it so he doesn’t make the same mistake next month.

  5. FireJerryJones says: Nov 9, 2009 11:07 AM

Porter seemed like he played about as much as Junior Seau did.
$35 million used to buy you a lot more in the old days.
Waiting for him to rip the refs, or lay the blame somewhere else.
You gotta know he’s got mirrors all over the place at home. Time to look in there and take some blame Peazey.

  6. bgarcia says: Nov 9, 2009 11:09 AM

JoeyPeezy: Things like that usually AREN’T used for motivation but as soon as Tom Brady says that they are, then everybody gets motivated!

  7. dolfan565 says: Nov 9, 2009 11:09 AM

We backed it up last year with 4 sacks in week 3 against the Pats.
Consider him 1-1 when talking trash against the Pats.

  9. Asswipe Johnson (Pronounced Az-Wee-Pay) says: Nov 9, 2009 11:10 AM

So Porter’s comments “motivated” the Pats now, Brady? LOL. The Pats barely came out of this one with a win.
In looking at the “motivating” games (Jets-Ryan, Broncs-McDaniels, Phins-Porter) on the Pats schedule this year…I do believe the Pats are better off going into these games unmotivated.
Keep on runnin’ it, JPeezy…Brady is full o shizzznit.

  10. Xpensive Wino says: Nov 9, 2009 11:11 AM

I would think it’s a case by case basis. When a complete idiot like Porter drones on for years, it becomes white noise. No one can really take anything someone that stupid says seriously.

  11. JM88 says: Nov 9, 2009 11:15 AM

Is Brady saying that without the Porter comments the Patriots would not have been motivated. If so the entire team should be fined. I would have thought that professional athletes are always motivated for big games. I find it ridiculous that even for the Super Bowl people write that certain comments are used for motivation. If you need comments to motivate you then what are you playing for anyway?

  12. cloudnine says: Nov 9, 2009 11:16 AM

    Joey Porter played yesterday?

  13. VicksPuppies says: Nov 9, 2009 11:18 AM

Porter is such a clown – given the O line injuries, he could have put together a nice game yesterday. Instead, it’s another week of talking about how he put his mouth out more than his play.

  14. I♥Patriots says: Nov 9, 2009 11:20 AM

It was probably because of what he said. Not that he said stuff at all. And as for barely getting a win…. we left a lot of points on the field, but for the most part (minus the secondary) we did pretty well. We always have trouble with Miami.

  15. Bill Cowher's Chin says: Nov 9, 2009 11:21 AM

Wait, Dolfan565, you can justify Porter’s comments this year, because he “backed it up” in on of the two games from last year??? Really?
Does that mean that Brady can call himself the Super Bowl MVP, because he won a few of them earlier in the decade?
Or maybe the Bears should talk about how they are the best defense in the NFL, because they set all those records in 85′?

  16. Tim's_Mom says: Nov 9, 2009 11:22 AM

    @dolfan565
What about game 2 last year?

  17. patsfanlisa says: Nov 9, 2009 11:23 AM

dolfan565: Big deal. Week 3 last year, a QB that had started ONE game in his career before that. Face it, he’s done and so is the wildcat. It was practically useless yesterday, a college gimmick that won’t get you anywhere. The reality is: Joey Porter – ZERO sacks, ZERO tackles. ZIP. NADA. NOTHING. BIG FAT DROPPED EGG. LMAO

  18. texasPHINSfan says: Nov 9, 2009 11:37 AM

well obviously the patriots won, but Porter’s comments and how they might have motivated the Patriots had nothing to do with it.
the Patriots beat the Dolphins because they are a better team, with much better talent. i don’t think for a second that Porter’s comments did anything – the score wouldn’t be different had Porter talked or not.

  19. hayward giablommi says: Nov 9, 2009 11:39 AM

“Keep on runnin’ it, JPeezy…Brady is full o shizzznit.”
    ^^^^^
Uh, ok, keep running that garbage in 4 weeks, please.
God forbid if I were “Peezy”, I’d probably hate Brady too. By my count, I believe yesterday was the 8th time “Peezy” has suited up against a Brady-led team. He’s only beat them once, in 2004.
So I guess we can assume by that, that “Peezy” is nothing more than a jealous bitch? No wonder he has some fans on this board.

  20. dashoe says: Nov 9, 2009 11:42 AM

It’s funny how BB material only seems to motivate the Patriots if they win. We never hear them say that after they get beat by “trash talkers”.
Geezus! I’m so sick of hearing these pantywaists whine about what people say about them.

  21. dolfan565 says: Nov 9, 2009 11:48 AM

He didn’t run his mouth in game 2 last year.
He ran his mouth game 1 last year… and he backed it up. He made the Pats look stupid last year week 3. But his play was overshadowed by the birth of the Wildcat. I’m doing nothing but stating facts people. Deal with it.
(side note: that was supposed to say “He” not “we”… I’m not one of those dudes that acts like I’m part of the team… simple typo)

  22. ZombieRevolution says: Nov 9, 2009 11:51 AM

I would almost guess that that Patriots used the Mia blowout of last year for as much motivation as Porter.

  23. Turd Furguson says: Nov 9, 2009 11:52 AM

Let’s be very clear Porter is a scum bag loser that should probably be in a jail cell somewhere picking out his next prison tat, but the fact that people sit here and get turned on every time Brady or some other Patriot says something makes me want to puke. The Patriots talk more trash than anyone in the league they just wait untill after the game to act like immature bitches. See playoff game against San Diego when they made LT cry on national tv, or one of Belicheats heart warming postgame hand shakes, or the fact they cheat NONSTOP! Yes keep talking Brady you, your cheating coach, and your band wagon jumping loser fans are the class of the league. The Patriots are just as classless as that thuggish idiot Porter, they should sign him he would fit right in with the other trash.

Yeah, I’d expect something like that from a Dolphins fan. Tell me, how many times did they lead the game yesterday, assclown, I mean asswipe?

    ______
Left a lot of points on the field? Yeah, that’s what the Rams said in 2001, the Panthers said in 2002 and the Eagles said in 2004. What a JOKE you are, loser.
The Red Sox also said that about “leaving runs on the diamond” when they got SWEPT by the Angels this past year. LMFAO!!!
Face it, if the Pats needed that motivation from Porter to BARELY beat a 3-5 team, then the Pats have bigger troubles than lame bulletin board fodder. Fact is, the Pats haven’t beaten ANYONE good yet this year (the Falcons are probably the best that they have beaten and they got SMOKED by a flawed Cowboys team). Yet, once again, the media rides their jocks like the fools that they are, as do the lame ass Pats fans.

you are an idiot! He backed it up last year??
Time to wake up from your dreams.
Please refrain from posting anymore stupidity, you are shaming Dolphin fans.
Joey ZERO Porter!! Great 5 million $$ investment Miami!

  27. worldinmyeyes says: Nov 9, 2009 12:06 PM

dolfan565: Porter talked trash prior to game 2 last year too (crying about the Patriots punting on his side of the field). So by my count, Porter’s Dolphins team’s record against the Pats is 1-4. Impressive. Is the division still going through Miami? LOL.

  28. Jay says: Nov 9, 2009 12:13 PM

Dolfan565: That was against Cassell, one of the most sacked QB’s last year, in his 2nd ever career start. That’d be like getting all hyped because you sacked Aaron Rodgers right now.

  29. Vince Drooley says: Nov 9, 2009 12:20 PM

patsfanlisa – Wildcat was overused and disruptive to Miami’s rhythm, sure, but 2TDs and a 33yd run for a critical down conversion out of the formation isn’t “practically useless.”
Fact is, your team is much better than the Fins but the game was pretty darned close. If it weren’t for Miami’s coaching flubs (and the fact that they have on WR who can actually catch consistently), the final result might well have been different.

Lost … what an appropriate moniker you have!?!
Porter was signed by the prior regime of Cam Cameron & Randy Mueller and not Sparano (not Spanuolo… he is the HC of the Rams), Ireland, & Parcells.
I do agree that Wake and Roth should see more playing time and phase out Porter. However, Wake is getting adjusted to the NFL after a few seasons in the CFL, and Roth is just getting back an injury.

  31. Bdrunk says: Nov 9, 2009 12:26 PM

I would think beating a division opponent is enough motivation. Sounds like TB is just trying to rub Joey’s nose in it.

  32. KILLER FIN says: Nov 9, 2009 12:30 PM

Time to clean house Fins!!! Get rid of the trash (talkers)!!! Not that the patsies were so great, but the Fins D forgot to show up, including Porter!!! next year, GO FINS!!!

  33. dolfan565 says: Nov 9, 2009 12:34 PM

Congrats Pats fans… you beat the Fins by 10 at home when you were a 10 point favorite… you did what you were supposed to do.
My point is: where was the extra motivation last year when Joey ran his mouth? This is a bulls**t story. THERE IS NO EXTRA MOTIVATION . The Pats are a better team and they won a game they were supposed to. It’s has nothing to do with motivation. If you have to get motivated to win a game you’re favored to win by double-digits, I feel sorry for you.
I wish Joey would shut his mouth and produce at a higher level. But don’t forget the Fins were without Ferg and Crowder. If the Pats were playing without Wilfork and Mayo it might be an even closer contest.
You Pats fans can run your mouths (ala Porter) but deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you fear the Dolphins. Maybe not this year, but you fear what they’re building down in Miami.

  34. patsfanlisa says: Nov 9, 2009 12:39 PM

“Hey Tom bet you can’t soil your god-like reputation by dumping the mother of your out-of-wedlock child for a supermodel. I bet you can’t hire some goons to shoot at some photographers who have the audacity to show up at your wedding. I bet you can’t come off as an insufferable prick after a Monday night game by making some poor talentless reporter chase you across the field while just trying to do her job and get a few meaningless quotes from Mr. Tom Brady the deity.”

Here’s my theory about you: you are clearly THAT GUY (I know how much you love the ALL CAPS EMPHASIS) who never accomplished anything athletically, never got a date, and who has never left your parents basement…lucky for them, because you’re likely such a fat, ugly embarrassment of a failure that they must be oh-so-ashamed of. While you may or may not be *technically* retarded, it’s best that they tell people that you are, just for posterity sake.
So, being the incredible loser that you are, you decide, “Dammit, I’m gonna be a WINNER!!”, and hop onto the Yankees and Steelers bandwagons. Funny thing is, that didn’t make you “cool” like you thought that would. You’re still the ugly, fat loser that girls point and laugh at. And to make things worse, the Yankees lose to the Red Sox and the Patriots dominate the Steelers 6-2 and 2-0 in the playoffs this decade. So, compounding your complete failure as a person, the two teams you selected to glom onto have been outperformed this decade by teams from New England.
At this point, for the sake of society, please, walk upstairs and out to the garage, put the key in the ignition, turn the key clockwise, proceed the the rear of the vehicle, bend down, open wide and suck in those yummy carbon monoxide fumes. Let us know how that goes, k bud? Warmest regards

Is it me or is this CornFlorio clown a really angry 49ers fan? Sox fans are not jealous of the Yanks…the rivalry is as great as ever. Believe in the media hype that you want to believe and disbelieve the media hype you don’t want to believe. Free country and quite honestly the spawn of your brain goo is entertaining.
    Wow…
Well anyway, the Colts are up next. But don’t get too excited Pats fans because if the Pats beat the Colts on the road they still wouldn’t have beaten anyone as they don’t have Bob Sanders, Marlin Jackson, and a couple of others (as I roll my eyes).
That’s right Turd Ferguson, the Pats constantly and still do cheat. You got it. Can’t think of any other reason why they are consistently in the hunt. Don’t you wish your team can cheat like the Pats? If you don’t you should, it’s pretty cool to see your team in the hunt year in year out…

Oh, and I’ve been a Yankees fan since I was a kid and they have rewarded me with (now) SEVEN World Series championships. In fact, they are the CURRENT World Series CHAMPIONS. As for the Steelers, they aren’t my favorite team at all…BUT I respect the fact that they are the CURRENT Super Bowl CHAMPIONS, something that your pathetic Pats haven’t been able to say for a long while.
