Chargers don't have to sweat a blackout

The San Diego Chargers have announced that their game on Sunday against the Eagles has been sold out, and thus won't be blacked out locally.

The news isn't particularly surprising, but it struck us as odd that the Chargers saw fit to publicly exhale with the issuance of a statement.

Then again, maybe the Chargers should be happy.  With 44 straight regular-season and postseason sellouts, they've matched the longest such mark in franchise history, which was set from 1979 through 1984.  The last blackout for the Bolts came way back in November 2004, against the Saints.

In the preseason, the Chargers warned that blackouts were likely.  If it was some sort of psychological ploy, it apparently worked.

To break the all-time franchise record for consecutive sellouts, 8,000 seats to the November 29 home game against the Chiefs still must be sold in the next 17 days.  Given that the Chargers have climbed back into the AFC West race, that shouldn't be a problem.

Its sold out because Philly fans bought the tickets. There will be lots of green in the stands this week.

This game has been sold out for a while, due to the amount of Eagles fans who have bought up the tickets. As an Eagles fan who lives in San Diego, I wouldn't be surprised if there are more Eagles fans then Chargers fans in attendence.

hopefully the refs in this game do not require a prune smoothie at half time

It has been sold out for months because Eagles' fans from all over are headed there for this game. It has been targeted by many people, including me, for years. I am flying from Albuquerque on Thursday night with my wife and daughters to go. I would not be surprised if there are more Eagles' fans than Chargers fans at the game.

It's really funny how fans of visiting teams always say that their fans will outnumber Charger fans at Qualcomm. The only time this has happened in the last four years was when Pittsburgh visited. I should know; I've been to the games. The only other game that was reasonably close was the Bears game in '07. I'm sure there will be far more navy and powder blue jerseys than green ones.

    Hey, PhillySportsYesPlease.....

More Eagle fans than Chargers fans IN San Diego?? Did you BUMP your head? Don't be foolish. We may be laid back, but we're FANS, just like you. If you want to "feel at home" at an NFL game wearing Eagle colors, then go back to Philly. It's not happening here.

    @ peruano88...

ANY TIME that happens that shows what frauds their fans really are.. You would NEVER walk into an Eagles, Steelers, Redskins, Cowboys, Giants game and see more of the opposing teams fans.. DETROIT, OAKLAND & KC DON'T EVER SEEM TO HAVE THAT PROBLEM!!!

  8. boltmancraft says: November 9, 2009 6:49 PM

And Mike Quick.....it's sold out because Charger fans want to watch their team wax the floor with your feathers. The only thing that differentiates Philly fans from Raider fans is the "cheese steak sandwich". Other than that, you both think that being loud and threatening makes your team better. It doesn't. You just lost AT HOME to the Cowboys. What makes you think you can win here?

As a San Diego Chargers fan living in Los Angeles and never having been to an NFL game, I've always watched Charger home games, one way or another. Let me just say that Pittsburgh is more than likely the only exception, but Charger fans will always dominate the attendance at Qualcomm Stadium for home games. Charger fans (and I say this with no hesitation) are a lot like Los Angeles Lakers/Dodgers fans. They don't give two s***s about their team when they're losing, but we still have our faith and will support our team. The Chargers have been resurrected with 3 straight wins and will climb back into this AFC West race with Denver.

Not saying it WILL happen but there are a lot of displaced Philadelphia fans in California. There are generally a solid contingent when Philly visits the Chargers and especially in baseball when we visit the Dodgers or Giants.

Well Lets hope that Donnie has his Helmet on straight for this game. We all know how well he plays in the Nice, warm weather!!!

  12. CD_Ridge says: November 9, 2009 8:20 PM

    Thanks to Eagles fans.

  13. Sourdough says: November 9, 2009 8:33 PM

The Eagirls will not have even 1/4 of the fans at Sunday's game in San Diego. I laugh at each of you who feel it will be anything but 68,000 rabid Charger fans...especially the 'guy' talking smack who lives in Albuquerque. Classic stuff guy.

  14. Rick says: November 9, 2009 9:28 PM

Only 25 percent of your stadium will be Eagles fans! Proud statement!!!

  15. 56lightsout56 says: November 9, 2009 9:51 PM

Gee, look at all the moronic comments thinking Philly fans bought all the Tixs

well, at least it will feel like home for you

    when you see them lose.

so why dont you all go and and get a head start and practice booing Santa Claus

  16. Mike Quick says: November 9, 2009 10:06 PM

No worries Charger fans, Eagles fans will get nice and comfortable in your stadium. You are soft out there on the left coast.

  17. Sourdough says: November 9, 2009 10:12 PM

@Rick: I stand corrected. Thank you sir.

    Make that 1/16th.

  18. SATAN says: November 9, 2009 11:02 PM

In real life SATAN is a Phoenix cab driver. I can tell you from personal experience when the Cardinals could never sellout Sun Devil stadium that anyone who makes money off the tourist industry should be ready to collect LOTS of MONEY from the Eagles fans.

  19. Stuart Scotts left eye says: November 10, 2009 12:30 PM

It's funny how every visiting team thinks they outnumber Charger fans. It never ever ever ever happens in ANY stadium. The most I've seen was 14% Steeler fans. It looked like a lot because if there were a hundred football fans and 10 of them were opposing you fixate on the opposing fans.
What do you expect? 40,000 Philly fans flying in from Penn? Nope. Most of the Philly fans have never stepped foot in Philly. SCREAMING front runners.
The game is sold out because it's two really really good teams and if the choice was the Chiefs or Eagles when sitting at Ticket Master ready to buy your ticket, which one would it be?
So don't get your head overinflated Eagle fans.
And to the one's who will be attending the game, have a wonderful time here in SD. I hope you go home saying "man, that city was GORGEOUS, but I'm never going to the Q again."

  20. clausen for heisman says: November 10, 2009 5:53 PM

the chargers will not win this game, they cannot run the ball at all. a one dimensional team is not likely to beat the eagles d

  21. Electrogasm says: November 11, 2009 1:08 PM

A zero-dimensional team beat the Eagles, so why not a one-dimensional team?

The therapy must be working since you've already forgotten about the Oakland game.
