Decision on first flex weekend coming tomorrow

With Week Eleven only 13 days away, it’s not too early to start thinking about the first weekend of the annual flex schedule.

The term has nothing to do with bodybuilding; it relates to the process of moving from the afternoon into prime time (on NBC) a game that might be better than the game tentatively selected for the evening slot.

Per the official flex scheduling procedures, a decision is due to be announced on Tuesday.

This year, the game tentatively set for 8:30 p.m. ET in Week Eleven is Philly at Chicago.  Both teams will need wins to maximize their chances of making it to the playoffs, regardless of whether the two teams win or lose this weekend.  (The Bears play the 49ers and the Eagles face the Chargers.)

Other potentially attractive games on the Week Eleven slate include a return by the Colts to Baltimore, the Falcons visiting the Giants, the Chargers at the Broncos, and the Jets at the Patriots.

FOX and CBS may protect a limited number of games from being flexed, but a confirmed list typically is not announced.

So stay tuned.  We’ll be posting the info as soon as it’s released.

If its ratings they want, then Brett Favre will not play during daylight for the rest of the season.

Eagirl fans should petition to have this game slid to daytime, their team sucks in prime time. Did you know that they’ve *never* won a SNF game in SEVEN tries and they’ve got two more to play this season. 5-15 over their last 20 prime time games going back to December of 2004, by the way. Wouldn’t mind seeing the Redskins/Cowboys (who are 9-2 on SNF) flexed into that spot.

Can we please watch TCU and not Notre Lame?

  13. JoeSchmoe says: Nov 9, 2009 8:34 PM

Booooring. Cryin shame they can’t flex up my Bengals v. Pittsturd next week.
FYI Flori-Hoe, the early games in Mountain and Pacific timezones… you know, the cool ones… are known as the morning games.

    Vox,
Only you can come up these useless stats.

I don’t care what it is as long as I see the patriots play.
That said, these evil Panthers keep trying to take them away from me.

“The Eagles are 1-8 on SNF”
    0-7 on NBC SNF.

The Chargers/Broncos game isn’t an option. The NFL scheduling rules say that CBS (AFC) or FOX (NFC) have the broadcast rights for at least one of the two meetings for all division pairings throughout the league. Thank you Wikipedia.
Since the first Chargers/Broncos matchup was a Monday Night Football game, CBS is guaranteed the broadcasting rights for their second meeting in Week 11.

They should start a week early and move Steelers vs bengals to sunday night

  19. dcowboy7 says: Nov 10, 2009 10:16 AM

    wiki is wrong:
u can take a game twice….thats why fox protected dal/nyg even though the 1st meeting was on primetime already.

  20. p1stol says: Nov 10, 2009 12:28 PM

Right, because I’m sure NBC is dying to get rid of that awful Pats-Colts game…
