Packers linebacker Aaron Kampman suffered a concussion during his fourth play against the Buccaneers Sunday, but he didn't leave the game until the fourth quarter.
Kampman revealed that information Monday, saying he still didn't feel right a day after the game. Defensive coordinator Dom Capers said the coaching staff didn't know Kampman was injured until later in the game.
Kampman's situation brings up one of the many problems associated with concussions in the NFL; players identify the problem and that could go against their nature to fight through injuries. Many former players talk about finding it difficult to know the line between a "concussion" and "having your bell rung," if there is any difference at all.
Redskins receiver Santana Moss said Monday that he has no recollection of lying on the turf for half a minute in Atlanta.
"Honestly," Moss said Monday. "I really didn't know. I just thought I
got back up. They were just tellin' me about it, but I really didn't
know I was out that long. Thought I just got hit and got back up."
Moss returned to the game and it's unclear what happened on the play, but his teammate Clinton Portis clearly suffered a concussion. Portis still can't recall the play he was hurt on and looks unlikely to play this week.
Kampman's status for Green Bay's game against Dallas is unclear.

I hope Kampman will be alright. I am a huge Viking fan, but Kampman is the only Packer player that I respect and like. He is a gamer, and he deserves to be on a better team.
I hope he tells GB to get screwed and plays for a team that he will not only be respected as a DE, but also will have a good chance at winning each week. Maybe the Vikes will go after him again. Imagine Kampman and Allen together? Talk about a QB's worst nightmare.
Take the helmets off these guys.
Maybe then they will learn how to tackle properly.
Sit out a few games Aaron. We gotta keep you healthy for when the Vikings acquire you next season!
Vikings fan here. While there are Vikings fans who want Kampman next year, the Vikings have a good young guy at that position.
Regardless of any of that stuff, the main thing is Kampman's health. I think football players should come out of the game after a concussion. Period. Same goes for any player, on any team, at any level.
Yeah, that's what Kampman is all about d-bag, playing screwball. You front running idiots in Minnesota should have your heads looked at.
Win a Super Bowl first before acting like even bigger jags than you already are.
I've had a couple concussions playing football and every times I finished the game. According to the language used in the article, I just thought I got my bell rung. It really is difficult to differentiate when you have your adrenaline running.
After one of my games I did report the injury and they did test me against my baseline and they determined it was a concussion. It really isn't clear to player who suffers a concussion during the game whether they suffered one or not. I took myself out after that play I had the concussion, but really just wanted to clear my head for a second (granted everything was tinged slightly green). I went back out and was finished the game.
After the game I told the trainer I thought I banged my head pretty good, and they took me to the infirmary.
Essentially, what I'm saying is most players who don't go unconscious when they get concussed aren't going to report the injury until after the game, and that's just part of sports. That's just the way the players are wired. Its certainly the way I was.
I once played a game (I afterward decided I had had a concussion) where the entire time after taking a blow to the head I just kept pouring cold water over my head. It kept me in the game.
Concussions are a part of the sport. They're going to happen, and players are going to try to play through them.
Where progress can be made is getting players to notify the training staff after the game that they may have suffered a head injury.
I wouldn't be surprised if Bob Nelson (recent opinion indicates Florio or Florio stooge) makes most of his posts here with a concussion or other head trauma as well...
Hey Vikes on another Packer post. "ONE FOR THE THUMB"!
If I were Kampman, I'd sit out for the rest of the year. This Packers team is a complete and utter embarrassment.
This is what happened to Andre Water, Mike Webster, et al, many times over. Those players never said a word and paid for it with their lives.
Hopefully Kampman is all right. Plus, he isn't as bad this year as some people think. Sure he hasn't been getting a whole lot of sacks but he has been providing a ton of pressure though and I think is among one of the team's leading tacklers.
and Vikes-N-Favre, the Packers are not a bad team and Kampman isn't going anywhere. I think Thompson will re-sign him after this season. The Packers can't afford to lose him. He is a big part of their defense mainly because of his leadership and expierence regardless of the low amount of sacks he has this season.
The Packers will do what they did to Corey Williams franchise Aaron Kampman and trade him to the highest bidder whose willing to sign this class act to a long term contract - around the draft. They'll probably be looking for a 1st or 2nd but with the way they've killed his value this season they will most likely get a 3rd.
So no matter who the GM is come March/April 2010 I highly doubt Aaron Kampman will be in Minnesota next season. I don't think you guys need him - the guy you have opposite Jared Allen looks like a good young player.

Yeah, Corey Williams, another Sherman era gem. How's he been in Cleveland?
you idiots claiming that kampman will be a viking next year don't really believe that do you???
AINT gunna happen. he will be franchised or transitioned and a bad team like OAK, JAC, or TB will have themselves a new player.
Buzzed driving is drunk driving
Packers linebacker Aaron Kampman suffered a concussion.
What the Fock
Kampman a linebacker ?????
Sure he's a linebacker, just like Florio's a Pulitzer prize winning writer.

lets go line item by line item shall we?
1. yes, the packers are a bad team, they lost to the bucs, and could easily finish 6-10 again, finishing like that for more than 2 seasons kind of defines bad teams doesnt it?
2. As far as kampman not going anywhere after the season, barring a franchise tag, why would the guy want to play out of position for the rest of his career, especially when DE's command a ton of money in FA?
3. The packers can afford to lose him, largely because as an OLB he is getting constantly beaten in the passing game, (watch some film, see for yourself) and so far the packers have not been blitzing with him like they should be to utilize his skill set.
4. right now he is not a big part of the defense, he is actually a drag on the defense due to the reasons listed above. the pack was thinking he would magically become demarcus ware, and he hasn't.
5. The packers do not care about leadership or experiance when it comes to their players, they require only that their players drink the MM and TT koolaid, for further refferance on leadership and experiance not being a reason to keep a player please see Favre, Brett.
Fan of Four he is a linebacker in the 3-4
LOLB 74 Aaron Kampman
jeremiah says: you idiots claiming that kampman will be a viking next year don't really believe that do you???
No he won't. But not because he wouldn't welcome the chance -- he already signed with the Vikings once when he was a restricted free agent about 4 years ago. But the Vikings have a lot of money invested on the D-line and have three very good young DEs in Jared Allen, Ray Edwards and Brian Robison, so they won't pay the money Kampman deserves.
But Kampman can't be happy being casterated in the new 3-4 defense and playing for a rebuilding team. If forced to stay in Green Bay via franchise tag, he'll be a good soldier and do it, but if he gets the choice he'll bail on the Packers.
Big deal. Most of the Packer fans watched with an alcohol induced concussion.
So how many of you tools are related to Kampmen or close friends? Must be all of you since you know exactly what he wants. Let me reiterate the tool part again tools.
"1. yes, the packers are a bad team, they lost to the bucs, and could easily finish 6-10 again, finishing like that for more than 2 seasons kind of defines bad teams doesnt it?"
The Eagles lost to the Raiders who are just as bad as the Bucs.
"So how many of you tools are related to Kampmen or close friends? Must be all of you since you know exactly what he wants. Let me reiterate the tool part again tools."
He has stated before that he likes Green Bay because of the small town feeling since he is from a small town in Iowa.
Ever hear a drunks opinion on drunk driving? It's not reasonable for anyone to expect a "dinged" player to self-diagnose. Plus, we expect them to play unless something is clearly "broken". PackFans - Why would you want to keep Kampman if you're going to run the 3-4 in 2010?? Be sensible, and get some value for him via trade. He's an above average DE, and a below average LB. He's a pass rusher that's also good at defending the run, not a true speed rusher that can sometimes switch into coverage! Not that we need him, but he would be a good fit for the Vikes 4-3. Get over it stubborn, delusional Cheesers, and draft yourself a 3-4 LB!
Hey Vikings fans who would rather post something negative in a Packer thread than something positive in a Vikings thread, why don't actually show your team spirit by buying tickets to the game. The tatortot hotdish can be saved in the fridge and reheated for after the game, don'tcha know.
Every time I see Kampman dropping into coverage, I just shake my head.
He's a natural end who looks lost in coverage.
How management doesn't see this is amazing.

Hey Slippery Pete, When you keep your moldy ass off the Vikes threads, maybe Vikes fans will stop coming onto packer threads. I see a lot of familiar names on this thread compared to other Vikes ones.
I think it's the fact that the Pack is back.........way back in the division race that has your panties in a bunch. I'm sure you fins upstanding Packer fans wouldn't be rubbing it in our faces...no..no..never.....BS!
Take the shit you candy ass!
@Bzilla-
Gotta a gree with you on that one. If the NEW GM & HC (and God I hope that's the case) continue to insist on using Kampman in the exact way he shold not be, then they need to trade him for a better fit (sigh). When he gets his hands on the ground he can still bring it and has no business dropping back into coverage.
Hell, I wish GB would have just traded Favre to MN last year and got some value out of him. Ol' Percy might look good in Green & Gold. (Not that I think TT could possibly have seen the talent).
Primarily though, they need to make sure Kampman's OK before he gets back on the field. If we ever get some real football people at HC & GM he's too good of a talent to lose.
