No takers for Larry Johnson

Because the Chiefs released running back Larry Johnson after the trade deadline, he was required to pass through waivers, giving every other team a shot at picking up his current contract.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that no one submitted a claim for Johnson’s contract.

As a result, he now becomes an unrestricted free agent.

He is entitled, if he so chooses, to collect the balance of his $4.55 million base salary as termination pay.  (He’ll likely choose to take the money, especially since he won’t be required to refund any of it if he lands with a new team.)

So now the question becomes whether anyone else gives him an opportunity and, if so, whether the contractual terms entail anything more than the minimum base salary for a seventh-year player.

We’ve been told to keep an eye on the Patriots, who have been evasive regarding their potential interest in Johnson.

“evasive” in the same way they were evasive about Mike Vick.

Well… they signed the malcontent Corey Dillon and he led them to a Championship. An inspired LJ might still have something in the tank.

Is there a team that hasn’t been “evasive” about their interest in Larry Johnson?
    At least try man.

The Cheatriots were evasive? You’re shitting me!

So, they try and pin BB down on the radio. Ah, well, not neccessarily….unless BB comes out and says, “Hey, I don’t want Larry Johnson!” Don’t ask me again….
    Well, he didn’t say no?
BB must want a guy who said, “I need to play for a Black coach!” Ivan Fears is black…Hmmm

Is it possible floating the LJ-to-Pats rumors was to help Bill’s old buddy Scott Pioli escape the contract by possibly tricking some other team into claiming him?

  13. Florio-is-a-tool says: Nov 10, 2009 6:44 PM

Mike, weren’t you the one who said the Pats were interested in Ron Mexico and have plagiarized yourself again with this LJ stuff? Swear to god, you’re getting as lazy as the Globe’s CHB.
Want a rumor? Some people think Dan Snyder is smart. Check into it.

In West Virginia, they don’t make filters that can reject posts that have the n***er word, the f***ot word, the f*** word, the c*** word, the V*x V***tas word….
It’s too bad too, because the site would work so much better if he could just move to a state where those filters had been invented, or talk to someone who knows the technology is out there, rather than manually approving comments between milking his goats.

All the speculation about who might claim him off waivers was ridiculous to start with. He’s a turd both on and off the field; why would anyone claim him and pick up that overpriced contract?

  18. EShine says: Nov 10, 2009 7:34 PM

Why would BB take a guy that Pioli can’t stand?

“LJ sent letters to every team in the league today asking for a comprehensive report on how many fags each team employs. Based on his research, he will make an informed decision of which team to join before the end of the week.”

That is a very good question. Insightful. Why would he? It’s not like Pioli and BB don’t talk.
