I also looked into the total snaps through four games taken by the Patriots, Saints, Vikings and Colts and determined that those four QB would have no shot at getting the number of snaps Quinn needs to get his bonus at 70%. And if they couldn’t get enough snaps, then Quinn would have no shot.
The Browns were well aware of the bonus and waited until they were absolutely certain that Quinn had no chance whatsoever of getting to 70% of the offensive snaps for the season. If they had made the move one or two games ago it may have been possible, but with only eight games left it is next to impossible.
Anderson has sucked for weeks and Quinn has gotten screwed. But, in a way, he only has himself to blame because he was terrible in those first two and a half games.

Let’s see, I *am* 42, so I guess you could consider that middle-aged. I feel it physically, but mentally I think my development was arrested around 19. Sometimes that’s a good thing, other times bad.
I don’t consider myself “hip” because I’m well aware that most people my age are not “hip”. I stopped trying long ago, ha ha. Do I consider myself a “rocker/punker”? No, I consider myself a “person”.
I don’t like Little Debbies ’cause that shit is cheap and dry. Don’t like Cheetos either. Much more of a potato chip type.
Tech geek? Hardly. My job is techy, but outside of my job, I don’t think I could program a drum machine. I tend to leave my work at work.
I’ve heard of “Legend of the Seeker”, but am not hip enough to know what it is. I’m guessing it’s a movie, since people don’t “take in” video games. I thought maybe it was a video game.
I have no idea who the “granny” is. Maybe my ex-girlfriend who was 13 years older than me? Doubt it though. We broke up 10 years ago.
I’ve been using the “trickbunny” handle on about a million websites for over 10 years, so I’m not the hardest person to figure out the identity of for that reason alone. I commend you on the fact that you know how to use Google. You da man. Here’s a cookie. Yawn.

Florio’s T-bagger – try to comprehend… you should WANT Mangini to be lying on this one
If Mangini isn’t lying, then he really doesn’t know know the details of Quinn’s contract. He didn’t say “I didn’t know back then. ” He said “I do not know”[the details of Quinn's contract]
If he’s telling the truth that would give Lerner the opportunity to fire him with cause, and not have to pay a cent of Mangnini’s remaining contract.
Mangini can pick his poison.

I’m the first one that wants to see Mangini thrown out on his ass.
But all this Quinn-escalator-conspiracy stuff? It’s rubbish.
Of course Mangini knew.
And yet, HE STILL MADE QUINN THE STARTER TO OPEN THE SEASON.
If his goal was to avoid the salary escalators, DA would have been the starter from day one. It’s not like Quinn won the job in camp, neither QB was dominant.
This whole conspiracy thing doesn’t wash. It’s purely revisionist, and requires us to ignore the first three weeks of the season.

Every football fan in Cleveland knew about the incentives in Quinn’s contract – it’s been published time and time again. For Mangini to claim that he didn’t know makes him look like an even bigger idiot.
A lillte honesty would have went a long way for Mangini. All he had to say was “I made a mistake starting Quinn and we will win just as many games with Anderson”. No, that would have been too easy for “Super Secret” Mangini. If he had any clue before the season started that both quarterbcaks would perform this poorly, why did he give up the chance for Sanchez, or at least go after a veteran until next year?
He could has easily dumped Quinn before the season as he had no control over the roster that Crennel and Savage left him.

whododrums…it’s dicey because both have sucked this year. I agreed with starting Anderson at first, but it is evident now that we might as well let Quinn try and be our QB of the future the rest of this season. Saves us having t draft one. If he goes in and is 3-17 for 31 yards, it’s actually an upgrade, so if Mango doesn’t play him now that the 70% of snaps is almost unreachable. That almost is key, because if Quinn has alot of long, sustained drives, he can still reach that. Who knows, maybe that was the plan all along.

My question would be does anyone think that Quinn should be starting over Anderson?
I thought it was the coaches job to make decisions and to give their team the best chance at winning, Quinn certainly displayed the inability to do just that. So no matter what the contract said I believe he would of been benched by every coach in the NFL.

Of coarse he knew. Look at it from a statistical angle. Based on someone elses post (I didn’t have time to double check the numbers) brady has played in 128 out of 463 snaps. If we double the 463 snaps (for an approximate 16 game season) and divide that by the 70% that he would need to participate in it would come out to 649 snaps.
If he plays in every game for the rest of the season and they get the same 463 snaps that they had for the first eight games that would mean that he would have had to play in 186 snaps in the first eight games. If he would have played in one more game of approximately 58 snaps (463/8) he would have 186 snaps in the first eight games which would come out to exactly 70% of the snaps

Mangini took two NFL QBs with decent trade value and destroyed the confidence and trade value of both QBs with his handling of the QB situation.
He owns that. No one else can be blamed.
But although Anderson was terrible I understood that Mangini understood he’d hurt Quinn’s trade value even more by triggering a $6 million salary increase.
Turns out I was giving Mangini too much credit. Every Cleveland fan knew about the escalator clause… every reader here knew about it.
But Mangini did not. And emphatically says so with no ambiguity in that PR puff piece.
I’d agree that if Lerner is looking to weasel out of Mangini’s contract “with cause” this PR puff piece gives him all the ammunition he needs.

Cornflorio woke up feeling a bit “randy” this morning. Not for nothing, but I would assume that most coaches have more important things to get done than read this.
Football Fan: knowing “several” people “around” the NFL is far different than extrapolating it to 90% readership. Just because you know some folks in the ticket dept. who read this while on their down time, certainly doesn’t mean that the head coaches read. I’m not saying that many folks don’t, but just casually mentioning that you’ve got the inside scoop into 32 NFL teams personnel dept. is foolish at best.
Saying all that, I hope they do read this stuff. That would explain some of the dumb ass decisions that are made throughout the year….

Quinn isn’t playing well enough to deserve the incentives, no reason to play him.
If Quinn put up great numbers in the short time he played this might be a story, but he didn’t offer much more of a chance than Anderson to win a game.

I know several people around the NFL and all of them read this website. Florio is not lying at all that Mangini reads. I would bet he does read. I would say that 90 percent of those in personnel around the NFL read this site. I heard a coach talk about PFT during training camp one day this year when I was visiting. They all read and if they say they don’t then I think they are lying.
