Riggins addresses Snyder comments for "last time"

Washington Redskins Hall of Fame running back John Riggins has once again spoken out about franchise owner Daniel Snyder, explaining for what he says will be the final time why he thinks Snyder has a dark heart.

Reading a prepared statement on the local radio station WTOP today, Riggins insisted that when he appeared on Inside the NFL and referred to Snyder as a man whose heart is dark, he wasn't settling a personal score but merely speaking out on behalf of Redskins fans. Riggins also said the fact that he no longer works for a radio station owned by Snyder has nothing to do with his feelings.

"To my detractors who have accused me of being an embittered former employee of Mr. Snyder's Red Zebra Radio Station, the facts are, I had a three-year contract with that station. I fulfilled my duties. My contract was not renewed. It was a business decision. I am fine with it. That was not a happy place. I have long since moved on, and I am free," Riggins said, per Dan Steinberg of the Washington Post.

Riggins frequently takes shots at Snyder on Twitter. He explained those shots by saying, "I have also been advised to experiment with social media, as it is the way of the future. I started experimenting the same month the Washington franchise imploded. Relevancy found me."

And as for that "dark heart" comment, Riggins says he stands by it -- and that Snyder has proven himself to have a dark heart by, in Riggins' view, causing personal friction between himself and his old quarterback, Joe Theismann.

"When I use that phrase, I'm referring to the heart of a narcissist, someone who thinks they're better than others, someone who thinks the social contract does not apply to them, someone who drives a wedge between my former teammate, Joe Theismann, and myself," Riggins said.

At the conclusion of his remarks, Riggins said, "This is the last time I'm going to speak on this topic." That's awfully hard to believe. Riggins has gotten a lot of mileage out of his criticisms of Snyder, and it seems like a safe bet that he'll have more to say.

I think Riggins should just shut up. He is almost as annoying as Mercury Morris at this point...and this is coming from a Dolphins fan.

Tell it like it is Riggo. Theismann has sold his soul to Dooshbag Dan, and all you hear from Theismann is how great and proud the Deadskins are. Teel it like it is Joe.....show some guts for a change. To spit at the RB who single-handedly won your SB is shameful.....especially since he's right!

Riggo is sick to his stomach for very good reason. Everything he said is blatently true. It would be different if people said good things about Snyder every now and again, but there is nothing good to say unless you're one of the players he overpays. Redskins fans who are not as disgusted as Riggo are the marks that Dan feeds on and the reason he is able to operate the way he does. Al Davis East.

I actually heard the interview. Riggins said he expects them to replace the logo with a short guy with a cigar in his mouth. That is how narcissitic (sp?) he thinks Snyder is.

Ahhh, the gift that keeps on giving (The Redskins) pops it's pretty little head up again and says, "Here you go, have a wondferful day!"

The best thing that could happen for Deadskin fans, is for Synder to sell the team.

Umm first off you're no Redskins "fan" if you can't even spell Riggo's name right. Furthermore no he doesn't speak for all redskins fans nor do you. Both of you should do yourselves a favor and stick to speaking for yourselves. It quite obviously is more than either of you can handle with poise.

I have a lot of problems with Snyder's actions as Owner but calling him dark hearted is absurd and nothing more than Sour Grapes hyperbole on a drunken pariah's part. He's got no one but himself to blame for the rift with Joey T. (and the rest of his teammates for that matter) yea Joe is a raging homer but that's beside the point. Doc Walker and others from his circles have been just as critical of Snyder and the Skins, funny how they never have felt the need to take personal shots at Snyder and can keep things to a football level without resorting to bush league juvenile grade school tactics.

Riggo got canned and has burnt biscuits over it. That's all there is to it.

The NFL is so full of "company line" b.s. and outright disingenuous verbal behavior that when someone tells the truth, or shares an honest personal opinion, we are pretty shocked. To be honest, it is a little bit refreshing! Riggins has a right to his opinion - I think we can all accept it for what it is - one man's opinion.

I have also heard Riggins say that the NFL was more physical 20 years ago. Are you freakin' kidding me!! I doubt there were any 300#er's running a 4.75 40 back then! The collisions are clearly nastier now! I'm no Snyder fan, but remember that there is a differance between an opinion and a fact. Only delusional folks think that all their opinions are absolute fact.

Enough already with calling Dan Snyder "Al Davis east". Al's mind may have lost a screw or two (or three or four), but Al Davis bleeds football. If anything he's the Anti Snyder.

As a Skins fan I love me some Riggo, but he is coming across more and more as an old, bitter, man that has been wronged in some way by Snyder. Riggo is better than that, or at least I thought he was.

And not having your contract renewed is a nice way of saying "Your fucking fired!".
