Meet your new interception leader

Somewhere in Charlotte, Jake Delhomme just exhaled.

Jake entered the night with 13 interceptions, most in the league.  Before the end of the first half of the Thursday night game between the Bears and 49ers, Delhomme has been leapfrogged by Chicago’s Jay Cutler, who now has 14.

Cutler’s second pick of the night came after Devin Hester lost his footing on an out route and Tarell Brown pounced.  He returned the ball deep into Bears territory and Frank Gore delivered on the next play.

Niners 7, Bears 0.

  5. DailyNorseman says: Nov 12, 2009 9:42 PM

I wouldn’t trade Favre for Jay Cutler.
Hell, I might not trade Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels for him, either. I doubt that either of them would be the INT machine that Cutler has turned out to be.
Playing quarterback without Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal to make you look good is hard and stuff.

  6. ninjapleazee says: Nov 12, 2009 9:48 PM

Pervert Harvin… sold our souls huh? Coming from a team that had to suck Favre’s nuts all summer long to get him to come out of retirement. You shouldnt be the one to talk.

So let’s recap the Chicago Bears:
QB – Good but turnover prone
    RB – Average
WR – Aside from Hester, below average
    Defense – average
    Special teams – average
    Coaching – below average
    This equals a crappy team.

Vikings fans are so arrogant that it’s sickening. What have you won other than meaningless regular season and playoff games in the last 30 years?
Just because the Vikings are 7-1 (soon to be 9-1) playing mostly cupcake teams, let’s see where you are come playoff time. You are a classic example of a one and done team, if Favre even makes it that far.
Once Favre is gone, then what? Rosenfels or Jackson? Or another washed up QB at the end of his career?
You can go 15-1 this year and it won’t matter. Everyone knows it except for you fans with blinders on. This team isn’t going to get it done in the playoffs. Period.

@ PervyHarvin – Jealous? Uh,not so much. Pretty hard to be jealous of a team that is known for Super Bowl losses and gave the world the worst trade in NFL history, The Love Boat, DeKnee Green, a 15 win season without making the Super Bowl etc… Embrace your destiny, the interception machine (#4) will be firing up soon. lets just say the packers are just barely average right now and the vikings are amazing, but overall the packers have been a better franchise
brett favre is the career int leader, but 20 years slinging bullets like he does and youll probly see some picks. (most of them were with the packers, ironically) either way, hes playing like the world champion favre that he was. the favre that ted thompson had the good sense to trade away. (queue the sad trumpets)

Update, make that 17 INT’s for Cutler!
That is a 14 INT lead over Favre. It will be interesting the second half of the season to see if Favre can catch him. He needs to throw at least two picks a game to have a chance. I don’t know if he has it in him……
I am sure the Bears are trying to figure out if they can get some of those draft picks back.

  48. Vikes-N-Favre says: Nov 12, 2009 11:48 PM

Funny how in the 16 years that Favre played for GB their fans never once brought up the INT record that he holds, but now that he is a Viking, it gets brought up every week.
What they fail to bring up is that Favre is on pace to have his best season of his career. Yep, while wearing the Purple and Gold of the Minnesota Vikings. Why is that you ask? Because he is on a better team now, plain and simple. Our OL makes GB’s look like Pee Wee football. Hell, Tampa’s OL made GB’s look like Pee Wee football.
Chicago lost to the 49ers which is a team the Vikings have already beat, so that is 1 more up on a common opponent. Vikes are inching closer and closer to another division title and can you believe it, could have it wrapped up in the next few games.
Once GB loses this week to Dallas, you will have the Vikes at the top and the Bears and Peckers at 4-5 respectively. We should have a 4 game lead after this weekend with 7 left to play, and actually more because of common opponents. SKOL VIKES!!!

  49. southernboi727 says: Nov 12, 2009 11:55 PM

Cutler will get it turned around. Just not this year. The team needs to be built around him for him to succeed.

  50. ahbronco30 says: Nov 13, 2009 12:15 AM

We might have lost 2 games to 2 tough teams but it could be worse….we could still have Cutler haha

  51. kancer says: Nov 13, 2009 12:53 AM

    This is just great.
First we have Packers fans talking shit after they just lost to the horrifying terrible Bucs, and got embarrassed twice by the Favre led Vikings. Some of these Pack fans are the kid in high school that gets his ass kicked repeatedly and still runs his mouth: just shut up and hope that the front office can rebuild your team over the next few years. Also, bringing up Herschel Walker won’t make up for any of that. This is 2009, BTW.
Second, we have southerboi727 saying Cutler will turn it around eventually because the team needs to be ‘built’ around him. Cutler is garbage and easily the most overrated QB in the NFL. Your team needs to rebuild not around Jay Cutler or free agency, but through draft picks.
Third, as a Viking fan, everyone settle down. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL, no need to be talking about the Superbowl or any of that shit. Let’s be humble and happy that we’re 7-1 and swept the hapless Packers. Our record speaks for itself; no need go all Joey Porter and talk shit constantly.
Also, for all the Green Bay fans hating on Favre, if it weren’t for Favre, you wouldn’t be relevant at all. How did you play in the 70′s and 80′s? At least the worthless Vikings made it to 4 Superbowl’s back then. Respect Favre and realize that he revived your ENTIRE franchise.
One last little nugget: Rodgers threw 3 picks in one game (against the Bucs), while Favre has 3 Ints in the entire season. Eat some humble pie, please.

  52. DocBG says: Nov 13, 2009 1:39 AM

@ gotards commenting on herschel walker – nice to know thats the only ammo you have you morons, yeah, 20 years ago, so thats really relevant now isnt it?
@ douchy packerfans running their 4-4 mouths – stfu until you win something worthwhile THIS SEASON! get on your knees and suck the koolaid outta TT and MM you lemmings. your team is going no where, your recievers are garbage compared to the viking recievers, your QB is far, far inferior, your running game blows, your 3-4 “defense” is a joke, and baby swiss is probably the worse offensive line to be assembled in the last decade. great job building from the draft you idiots. way to take a 6-10 team and drive it into the ground…..
@ the bronco fans reading this – be happy folks, you came out ahead big time in that trade, so did viking fans, thanks guys it is appreciated
@ fellow viking fans – you know folks, the best way to rebutt these packer morons is to get on here, use a little reason (it confuses the hell out of them) and put them in their place. we are NOT fairweather fans, and this could be our year, the vikes are good enough to make it all the way. Been saving a very nice bottle of scotch for the occasion should it happen. I’ll be damned if chilly isnt turning out to be pretty good after all.

  53. this class sucks says: Nov 13, 2009 2:16 AM

    @PervyHarvin
IDK where you get the idea that any Steelers fan would be in envy of the VIkings. But I will elaborate:
    1. Our QB is arguably better this year, but there is no debating he is good and younger (and has more SBs than Brett Favre).
    2. Our WRs are pretty close to even, Wallace and Harvin both playing excellent but Hines and Holmes are both better than Rice and Bernard.
    3. RB Well there is no denying that Adrian Peterson is good, although he wont carry a team by himself and the choice to bring in Favre means you need a SB win this year or next (assuming he stays) or the window will probably close.
    4. Defense – Not much of a contest. The front 3 is probably even but the Steelers are deeper and the LBs and secondary are worlds better in Pittsburgh.
    5. Special teams – Both kickers are pretty consistent, as long as ours isn’t in jail lol
    6. History – Well 6 Super Bowls so thats an easy win for Pittsburgh.
    7. Season outlook – Well the Steelers are better than the Vikings head to head but in a tougher division. Assuming they both make the playoffs than the Vikings have a good chance of getting pretty deep but only if Favre holds up.
    Clear winner – The Steelers
So no Steelers fan is (or should be) jealous of the Vikings.

Nice comments from all. Being a life long Vikings fan has been hard. Vikings fans take a lot of abuse from Packer, Steeler and all the rest of the teams that have won multiple SB rings, and rightfully so. Every year we hope our team is able to overcome the stigma of not being able to win the big one. Every year we get back on that horse and hope that our year won’t turn out like the year before. Thats what a true fan with one team does. We have no control over any of it. Pay the bucks, go to the games, talk smack on a blog, wear our purple gear with pride and hope for the best.
What makes every year so special is I’m a fan of the NFL. I will always be a fan of the NFL, period. Greatest game in town with the greatest fans, including Packer Backers, Steeler Nation, and even Americas Team.
Good luck to your teams this week but just so you know, I’ll be wearing my purple and rooting for the Vikes.

Hey GBPackers, the Lions game was never in danger of being blacked out. Like most teams — which PFT doesn’t publicize because apparently dopey Pack fans only post on Viking ticket sales posts to create site traffic — the Vikes had a few hundred tickets to sell this week before the game. There was never even a blackout concern, like there won’t be for the Seahawks game next week and the Bears game the week after that.
Now go back to figuring out how the pre-season champion juggernaut Packers lost to the only remaining winless team in the league last week and ponder the true definition of the word “choke”.
And Percy, you gotta lighten up a bit dude — no need to rub it in so much.
