No fine for Hall in Redskins-Falcons skirmish

Washington Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall will apparently get away from his sideline confrontation with Falcons coach Mike Smith without any league discipline.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the league reviewed the tape of the incident and saw nothing more than heated words, and so Hall will not be fined for the incident.

According to Schefter, Falcons coach Mike Smith is expected to be fined for his sideline confrontation with Hall, although there’s no word on how much Smith’s next paycheck will be docked.

We noted on Wednesday that two Redskins, defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth and safety LaRon Landry, were fined for their actions in the incident, but at the time neither player was saying how much he had been fined. Schefter reports that Haynesworth was fined $7,500 for escalating the incident as the “third man in.” Landry was fined $5,000 for a late hit on Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan that started the melee.

When I saw this headline I hoped to read instead of being fined he was suspended for 6 games for going onto the opposing teams sidelines and starting a fight. Wow, what is this league coming to?

No reason for Hall to get involved, just as guilty being 2nd man in as the third man in was. Hall was just closer to the action.
Glad to see NFL is continuing to support thug behavior. Can’t wait to see what happens the next time a player jumps in the opposing coach’s face.

What the fruck is taunting and why is it in the rule book?
NFL has completely arbitrary set of conduct rules. Helps bail out the Vegas books after the worst weekend ever because of the inbalance in team performance.

i don’t know why landry was fined at all – his hit was late but just barely – ryan’s legs were not out of bounds when the contact started.
as a flag, it was a good call. but worthy of a fine? i don’t know about that.

Once again the NFL shows its incredible wisdom…(yes, that is intended to be sarcastic) There wouldn’t have BEEN an issue, no problem at all, if Hall hadn’t gone into the Falcon’s bench area to challenge everyone. Landry got up and seemed to do football’s equivalent of an apology as he gave a bit of a slap to the back of Ryan, acknowledging his mistake with the late hit. No problem, no reaction from Ryan, and the finger pointing of the Falcons was satisfied when they saw the yellow flag. Then in comes Hall with his mouth in its natural state—wide open and screaming. Suddenly there is a risk of things getting really ugly.
Hall is the one person who SHOULD have been held accountable, beyond the penalty on the field.

Mike smith should be suspended for atleast one game. The idea of a coach grabbing a player and telling him that he will “kick his ass” is ridiculous. Addionaly Smith, apparently, was flexing from the sidelines (douche-move) to Hall during the following series.*
*As much as I do not condone the actions of Smith- the Redskins coaching staff could learn a few things from him. There is nothing more embarrasing than having to listen to Zorn babble in a monotone seeminly appathetic vocie in press confrences after a loss.
The team the coaching staff and the owner all have no heart – and it shows – if the players had any heart this headline would not read “skirmish” it would say “brawl-” the team should have went in there and defended Hall.

    TexasPhinsfan.
Definitely agree. People act like Landry attacked Ryan in the parking lot after the game. The fact is, Ryans foot had not touched down out of bounds when he was hit. Late? Maybe by a split second. Fine worthy? Not at all. Landry and Ryan walked away from the play like all was fine.
You have to let the players play the game.

    BULL PLOP! ALL OF IT!
    Mike Smith is a douche.

People please watch the video before you pass judgement. Hall was pursuing the play as Ryan was running out of bounds. Yes the flag was warranted but Hall did not do anything wrong on the play. If you keep watching you see he goes to shake the hand or something of another player. Then this said player grabs him along with a Falcons staff member. The whole time Hall is simply trying to get out. Yeah he has done some stupid stuff in the past but to judge him strictly on his past behavior is idiocracy. Here take a look for yourself.

Hey Vikes#28Owns, Thanks for the clarity, I watched it again, and I think you are right. From the clip I saw on ESPN I thought Hall ran into the sideline without any reason and started screaming, This shot looks like he is not the first one to start things but some one from the Falcons did so. I stand corrected (although it would be hard to apologize to Hall, who I still think is an idiot)

Apparently Goodell doesn’t know the definition of “instigation”.

Nevisyakker, yeah I wouldn’t apologize for all of Hall’s unearned money either. Yeah the guy is a complete tool and I’ve thought that for quite a while now.
I know we’ve all heard this joke over and over but it is so funny I think it needs repeating.
Just thank god it was Mike Smith and not Tom Cable or Hall would have been out cold.
