Bears-49ers one-liners

The Bears defense played better, but five interceptions by QB Jay Cutler led to a 10-6 loss to the 49ers.

Said Cutler, “I have to apologize to the defense, and the offense as a whole has to apologize. [The defense] played a great game. They kept us in there even throughout all the turnovers. We have to play a lot better.”

Bears RB Matt Forte only ran for 41 yards, but he caught eight passes for a career-high 120 yards.

Penalties killed the Bears all night, including an offside flag on DE Adewale Ogunleye that negated an interception by LB Lance Briggs.

Cutler became the first Bears quarterback since 1962 to throw at least four interceptions in a game twice in the same season.

49ers S Michael Lewis picked off Cutler in the end zone as time expired to seal the victory.

49ers TE Vernon Davis, who denigrated the Bears defensive line during the week, had words during warmups with Ogunleye.

RB Frank Gore had 104 yards on 25 carries and scored the only 49ers touchdown of the game.

49ers NT Aubrayo Franklin had his first career interception and said after the game that he “knew I had those hands.”

Said 49ers QB Alex Smith, “I’d like to not have it that close at the finish. I’m happy for the team. Obviously, the defense played lights out. They really played tough down there when the game was on the line. It was great to see.”
