Last month, 49ers receiver Josh Morgan opted not to join in Brandon Jones’ public pissing and moaning about rookie Michael Crabtree walking through the door with a starting job.
This month, Morgan is being rewarded for his silence.
Coach Mike Singeltary said Friday that Morgan will join Crabtree in the starting lineup, and that veteran Isaac Bruce will take a seat on the bench.
“He’s still going to play,” Singletary said of Bruce, per Kevin Lynch of the San Francisco Chronicle, “but the time has come to see what Josh Morgan
can do as the starter. [Bruce's] time will be limited.”
Other notes from Singletary’s day-after press availability can be seen at the Chronicle.
Makes sense. Gotta see what you have in Morgan and determine if he can complement Crabtree in the future. If he doesn’t show he’s capable in the second half of the season, you know what to look for in the offseason.
I think it’s more like “We know we’re not winning the Super Bowl this year, so let’s see if the young guy can be a starter or if we will have to go get somebody else for when Bruce retires.”
About time.
The final days of a great career. Next stop, the 2015 Hall of Fame class.
Niners are 1-4 since Crabas* joined the team. Singletary plays to his players emotions and its hard to do that when the front office sold him out and forced him to play Crabas*.
Have to wait and see if he can win his guys back or not.
Bruce shouldn’t have come back for this season, he just doesn’t have anything left in the tank.
Wasn’t Morgan the starter during Crabtree’s holdout? And he did what, exactly, with that opportunity?
FINALLY, they need to find out about Josh Morgan, Jason Hill and Brandon Jones,
I wonder how Bruce feels about this. He’s a stand-up guy so I’m sure he’s doing all he can to make sure Morgan and Crabtree are doing the best they can.
Sad to see Bruce dwindle away like this.
The 49ers also demoted Antonio Chlamydiashrub to the practice squad
I dunno, NFL Spin Zone. At least he can walk away from the game, & not have to be carried off on a stretcher after some devastating hit to his 37 year old body. This happens to ALL of them, eventually. I have never been a Ram’s fan, or 49er fan…or even an Isaac Bruce fan, but I think he’s had an incredible career. I’d rather see him go like this, than on crutches.
