Boldin may finally get his trade next offseason

The Cardinals said they would consider trade offers for wide receiver Anquan Boldin last offseason, but never seemed that interested in making a deal.

That could change in 2010.

Buried deep within Len Pasquarelli’s weekly Tip Sheet is this intriguing note: “The Arizona Cardinals didn’t trade wide receiver Anquan Boldin
during the past offseason, but will try much harder to move him next
spring because some coaches and team officials are at their breaking
point with the seven-year veteran.”

Boldin was upset after last week’s game, saying coach Ken Whisenhunt was not “man enough” to tell him about making the receiver inactive.  Boldin’s relationship with the organization has been up and down the last two years, and he’s consistently struggled to stay healthy.

Steve Breaston, meanwhile, has proven to be a capable complement to Larry Fitzgerald.  The third-year player has gained 62 more yards than Boldin this season, and his emergence could make a trade easier to swallow.

After a full practice Friday, Boldin is listed as probable to return to the lineup this week against Seattle.  If Boldin wants a new contract (from any team), a healthy and productive second half of the season would go a long way.

thats messed up. they should have traded him last offseason when his value was highest. now he wont get the contract he wants and the cardinals wont get the compensation he was worth last offseason. the cardinals screwed this up big time.

Running his mouth, can’t stay healthy. Any relation to Javon Walker ?

  10. DildoBaggins says: Nov 14, 2009 7:00 PM

He’ll be on the wrong side of 30 and have yet another year where he couldn’t play a full season due to injuries.
The Cards should have taken the Eagles or Titans deal in hindsight. If they are expecting “better than Roy Williams compensation” like they told Andy Reid for a WR who is as injury prone as Boldin, is looking for a big fat new contract like Boldin, and past 30 now – they are in for a rude awakening.
He’s a great WR don’t get me wrong, but his value has gone down after this year.

Get a move on Al Davis..
Give them a 2nd round pick in 2011..

Over the past two years the Stillers have seen way more courtroom action than the Ravens. Its a thug league. Actually a millionaire thug league. Stillers are no exception.

So many stupid teams in the NFL. Why do you throw a hissy fit over keeping Anquan Boldin when he’s at the height of his trade value and your replacement, Breaston, plays like a starter?
In addition, any fool could tell that Boldin didn’t want to play for the Cards, period.
They should have traded him for draft picks, and used the draft picks to improve the team’s weaknesses.
The Cardinals have wasted money and cap space on a delinquent receiver who isn’t producing.
Now that the easily foreseeable has indeed come to pass, you decide trade him? Okay. You’ll get far less value in a trade, take a cap hit because you just signed him to an extension a year ago, and waste time trying to get him to behave for the rest of the season.
    Yeah, that’s great management.

  15. SATAN says: Nov 14, 2009 7:44 PM

Better to trade a pitcher a year too early than a year too late certainly applies in this case. But whatever anyone says the Cards got great value out of Denny Greens 2nd round pick. And I will point out that the Green/Whisenhunt draft choices are one reason (Whis is another) why the Cards are in an “UP cycle” that could last a few years.

  16. beretta96 says: Nov 14, 2009 7:48 PM

Pats could use him, Moss is getting too old.

  17. pilot08 says: Nov 14, 2009 7:59 PM

  18. scrapdawg12 says: Nov 14, 2009 8:00 PM

Boldin just keeps getting injured year in and year out. He got way to big for his frame and his frame isn’t able to hold all that muscle mass without injuring himself. If the Ravens want a stud WR, look to KC and get Dwayne Bowe. It might be too little, too late for Boldin. Last year they would of gotten a high draft pick or two. This year, he’s hurt and running his mouth. A 3rd and 4th round pick should get a deal done. Teams that come to mind that could use Boldin are Ravens, Washington, Miami, Oakland (lol), San Fran… but I also think a team that could really use him on their way to a super bowl would be Atlanta. Roddy White and Boldin as WR’s, Gonzalez as their TE and Turner as a RB….Holy SH**. That would be getting your super star QB some weapons

Boldin was NOT signed to an extention last year, he is a good player they should have traded him in this past offseason but nothing was good. Lito Sheppard and a 3rd.. please.. thats weak

  23. SATAN says: Nov 14, 2009 8:53 PM

I can pretty much GUARANTEE he won’t be a 49′er, a Seahawk or a Ram and any NFC team with playoff potential is also an unlikely landing spot. I don’t think the AFC West is likely either since I believe that will be the AFC division the Cards play next year.

  24. Lazy2 says: Nov 14, 2009 8:56 PM

Boldin had been described as ” un-coverable”. The man played with a broken face last year. I’m leery of an organization ( Cardinals ) who start a rumor that he doesn’t get along with management. He’s not gotten himself in any trouble. Plays the game as hard as he can and now all of a sudden he’s injury prone ? Please…the guys a great addition to any team and I hope the Cardinals get jabbed in a trade for their shoddy practice of trying to smudge Boldins character . I hope Boldin gets paid well too. He’s earned it. I think his $$$ value is certainly within the top five players at WR.
Breaston can fill in admirably but don’t think for a minute the guys in the locker room don’t see the organizations precious attempt at saving a buck and saving face as they try.

It was Sheldon Brown and a 3rd – and if you don’t think Sheldon Brown is a good corner then you don’t know football.
The Cards told Andy Reid that they wanted more than the 1st, 3rd and 6th that Roy Williams netted since they felt Boldin is a better WR than Williams (granted); however they also told Reid that Boldin’s career numbers at this point with similiar to Jerry Rice (Boldin is good – but he’s no Jerry Rice).
The Cards were dreaming and now they are gonna get stuck with meager compensation compared to what they would have got 6 months ago. The Titans offered Lendale, Scaife and draft picks if I remember correctly…they should have taken that deal – they get a TE, a Power RB (so that means they don’t have to spend a draft pick on Wells and therefore can focus on other team needs…) plus more picks…
If you don’t think at this point that it would have been a smart idea to trade Boldin back in the offseason then your crazy

Coach Haley will bring him in with open arms… and the Chiefs nation will smile… Boldin, Bowe, and Chambers will be fantastic!

  27. Slater says: Nov 14, 2009 9:22 PM

Would Todd Haley and the Chiefs give up one of their second round picks for Boldin???

  28. FinFan says: Nov 14, 2009 9:46 PM

Not sure Miami would want his arrogance. They are having issues with Porter right now, why do they want another a-hole thats not producing.

  29. joeshmo says: Nov 14, 2009 9:48 PM

    1. Breaston played one good season as the #3 WR lined up against #3 CB’s and Safeties. No one knows that this guy could have replaced Boldin as the #2 WR. Anyone remember Az-Hakim and his transition from #3 to starter. Plus the Cards run 3 wide and 4 wide set more then any other team by far. Who would then play the super important #3 WR in their scheme?
    2. They will not take a big cap hit if they let him go next year. Next year will be the last year of a deal he signed in 06, not last year, so before you bash gets some facts first.
    3. Sheldon Brown and a 3rd? Yeah because trading one guy who is angry about his contract for another one is always a good idea. Especially when you are already up against the cap.
    4. White, Sciafe, and draft picks? First of all that isnt even a reputable rumor. Second, why do the Cards want another power back when they already have one just as good, younger and cheaper in Hightower?
    5. The other non-verified trade rumor was the Ravens who were trying to pawn off a TE that makes way to much, to old, injury prone, wouldnt fit under that cap in Heap and a 3rd rounder.
    6. To Lazy2 for his bash on management for so called putting a rumor out there that the Boldin doesnt get a long with management. Do the Cards really need to put that rumor out their? Boldin has done that pretty well himself hasnt he, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to get that Boldin inst happy with management when he calls them lairs in the offseason, walks out on the NFC championship celebration, and say coach isnt man enough. You really think Cards management has to put a rumor out there, give me a break. You really dont think he is injury prone, really? Missing 13 games in 3 years including playoffs, and not finishing countless games as well isn’t injury prone? And the guys in the locker room are doing just fine. They openly questioned his outburst after the Chicago game to state beat writers, they were angry he didn’t celebrate with them after the NFC Championship win, and each one of them knows full well that complaining about your contract after only one year into his first extension that the Cards paid him handsomely for is not a feasible thing to do and not something any team in the NFL would agree to, Philly doesnt, NE doesnt, but yeah their stupid to for not giving a guy a new contract after only one year into a contract the player signed.

  30. nowathand says: Nov 14, 2009 10:30 PM

Anquan Boldin is the NFL’s all-time leader in yards per game, no one should compare him to Javon Walker. If he’s injured so much, how does he keep eclipsing 1000 yards and how does he have the most receptions in Arizona history?
There are people in management who love him because, even more so than Larry Fitzgerald, he’s endeared himself to Arizona fans. It’s only a rumor until I see them trade the Arizona trade him and I reconsider my allegiance.
DildoBaggins, “He’s a great WR don’t get me wrong, but his value has gone down after this year.” There are still at least nine games left for Arizona.

  31. Satanic Hell Creature says: Nov 14, 2009 11:46 PM

The Bears will offer up a few draft picks for him. Probably a #1 and a couple #2′s. I know this sounds insane but they’re trading top picks off like the draft is the worst thing that can happen to a team. Well, I guess if you make decisions like Jerry Angelo does, the draft is one of the worst things that can happen to your team.

  32. lawofmurphy says: Nov 15, 2009 12:48 AM

I don’t think Boldin has handled his contract situation as well as he could have.
But some of the criticisms against him here are clearly devoid of any thought or football knowledge. Since Boldin came into the league, there is literally no WR that has been better on a per-game basis than he.
Not Fitzgerald. Not Owens. Not Harrison. Not Andre Johnson.
    No. One.
In 2008, Boldin had over 1,000 yards and 11 scores in 11 starts.
In 2008, Boldin was the 24th highest paid wideout in the NFL.
If he were underperforming his contract greatly, the Cardinals would either cut him or force him to take a severe pay cut. I have little problem with Boldin wanting to have a restructured contract in his favor with him outperforming his contract by the vast gulf that he has.
He hasn’t gone about it the right way and the injuries are hurting his case. But the overall pendulum remains on his side as far as I’m concerned.

  33. VoxVagina says: Nov 15, 2009 1:08 AM

His trade value just went down the tubes. The Cards will be lucky to squeeze out more than a second round pick plus some later rounders for him. No team will offer a first plus third for an injury prone receiver who has been a distraction lately. I like Boldin but he just can’t stay healthy. They should’ve moved him when they had a chance last year, because they’re gonna get about half of what they would’ve gotten last year. Bad move by the Cards front office.

  34. pete87jr says: Nov 15, 2009 4:52 PM

The Bears used thier 1st for cutler and 2nd for G. Adams. If Beanie can produce and make the offense more balanced they will move him for sure. From what i hear (AZ) they will not move him if they don’t get what they want for him. The Cards will let him play out his 1 year left on his contract and become an unrestricted free agent in 11-12. He is a good player but not worth 10 mil a year. You cant pay 2 wideouts that type of money, when they still need to re-sign core players like Dansby. They could resign him since Rolle will more than likely be waived because of of his cap amount next season. The Cards problem isnt a whiny Boldin… its the USC kid waiting in the wings.
