San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle was fined $7,500 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on New York Giants tight end Kevin Boss in the Chargers’ 21-20 win on Sunday.
Weddle drilled Boss on a play when, the league office ruled, Boss was a defenseless receiver. The fine was handed down even though Weddle’s hit did not draw a flag, and Boss stayed in the game.
It was the second time this season that a defensive back has been fined for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Boss; Arizona Cardinals safety Antrel Rolle was fined $7,500 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Boss two weeks ago.
As we noted in today’s one-liners, three Giants were also fined: running back Ahmad Bradshaw for a chop block, cornerback Kevin Dockery for a hit on Chargers punt returner Darren Sproles and linebacker Clint Sintim for roughing the passer on Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers.
