A facemasking penalty on Sunday was costly for Tennessee Titans defensive back Cortland Finnegan.
Finnegan was fined $5,000 by the NFL for tackling San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore by his facemask in the Titans-49ers game Sunday.
Finnegan was flagged for a personal foul for bringing Gore down by his facemask after Gore picked up 35 yards on a pass from Alex Smith. The combination of the long gain and the extra 15 yards set the 49ers up for a field goal that gave them a 3-0 lead.
The Titans won the game, 34-27.

Adroit, adept alliteration adaptation.
CF is the master of cheap tactics. This one must have been obvious. Usually he gets away with his little hot dog act.
Poor ol’ Cortland Finnegan… begin again.
Could we please have the headlines in iambic pentameter?
lets see, tackling gore by the face mask is a 5k fine, ochocinco pulling out a dollar bill to BRIBE the ref during a replay challenge is a 20k fine, SO MUCH FOR THE NFL AND THEIR CONCERN FOR PLAYERS SAFETY
Cortland Finnegan is a dirty player, straight up. (I know, I know, he’s just aggressive. Whatever. Hines Ward is aggressive. Finnegan is plain dirty.)
He’s also vastly overrated. Wasn’t he on several peoples’ AllPro Team last year? Ridiculous.
He IS NOT a first-team All NFL cornerback, not even remotely close.
for the record it wasnt a facemask it was for grabbing the inside of gores helmet, underneath the ear hole….and yall are just haters, sissies wish yall had him on your team
@tt9
I don’t want him on my team but that’s mosly due to age lol and thank you for correcting everyone, it was for reaching inside the back of the helmet, which I never knew was foul. The more you know…
