Rex Ryan challenges fans to "be prideful"

Ever since winning their Super Bowl in Week Two, the Jets have lacked consistency.  The team has lost two straight in the Meadowlands, and Rex Ryan implored the team’s fans this week to help snap them out of their funk.

“I’m challenging our fans. I know they’re going to
challenge me, and rightfully so, but it’s my job to get this team ready
to go,” Ryan said.  “Be prideful. This is your football team and we can accomplish
anything we set out to do. I think when we get that energy from our
crowd, it might be the difference this week.”

Speaking about the ear-splitting noise during the Patriots-Jets game, Ryan said, “We need to get that going. That was the loudest stadium I had
ever been in. . . . Let’s bring our A game. We’re going to try to bring it on the field. We need to bring it in the stands, too.”

Of course, Jets fans haven’t had a lot to cheer about in two ugly home division losses to the Bills and Dolphins.

Rex Ryan asking people to be prideful. Now, that’s irony.

It is hard to be prideful of a team that hasn’t been relevant since Super Bowl III.

The Jets fans should challenge Rex Ryan to “eat healthy.”

Maybe he should ask his players to do the same?

Maybe if the Jets fans cared more about the team and winning than if the game interfered with one of their religious holidays they might actually make a difference.

Maybe rex should worry more about his special teams and offense and less about the fans. Even moore knows his team is slippinh.

    Very well said Rasputin!
They need to kick the tires and light the fires on that Jets team.

Rex got his defense figured out…when you dont hae Ray Lewis and Ed Reed in your defense, it just isnt the same….if they add some true ballers next season, they should be the favorites next year – they EXPOSED the Pats…. if Sanchez is able to make more plays..watch out. I still think the jets straight up punked New England. .. and so did Denver Unfortunately, Ryan’s mouth wrote a check, the team couldnt cash of late

What was Ryan expecting? He and his team were talking trash like it was the playoffs in the middle of the summer… and they peaked in their “Super Bowl” in Week Two.
A smart coach has his team peaking in the REAL playoffs and REAL Super Bowl.

  11. stanjam says: Nov 14, 2009 9:15 PM

Umm, they didn’t exactly “expose” the Pats. They met the Pats when they didn’t have Welker, Brady was coming off an injury and a year off, and with a brand new defense that was just getting used to each other. That and they didn’t exactly beat up on them.
The point being is that the Jets exercised their mouths a bit too much, and began to believe their own hype. So then they fell apart. Completely predictable. Even I stated as much back then. Lots of talent on that team, but too much mouth. They should really shut up and play ball.
Now Ryan is back to calling on the fans? It isn’t the fans fault that the Jets have been stinking up the field.

    gazelle… heh heh heh…
    we’re the jets
    we’re four and four
    we dont need
    to win no more
    we’re just fine
    got jets pride
    hanukah is
    time for a bye
the jets were the LAST of the 1970 merger teams, to include carolina (96) and jacksonville (98, by one day), to win a division title.

Rex Ryan …. Jets ….. prideful
    Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!
Who says Rex Ryan has no sense of humor?

  14. GoBrowns19 says: Nov 14, 2009 10:25 PM

Damn guys, I don’t hate or like Ryan, but what’s wrong with this? He’s the coach of a sliding team and is asking the fans to be as loud as they can be Sunday. If I were a Jets fan this would fire me up for the game tomorrow. Now if Mangini said it, we could always say WE HAVEN’T HAD ANYTHING TO CHEER ABOUT IN 11 FREAKIN YEARS YOU SLOB! NOW WE’RE THE LAUGHINGSTOCK OF THE LEAGUE AND QUITE POSSIBLY THE WORST TEAM IN NFL HISTORY BECAUSE OF YOU! BE PRIDEFUL? WE WERE PRIDEFUL UNTIL THIS SEASON! NOW WE WEAR BAGS ON OUR HEADS AND HAVE TO TURN OFF GAMES IN THE 2ND QUARTER BECAUSE WE’RE DOWN MORE THAN 7 POINTS AND THAT IS AN INSURMOUNTABLE LEAD TO OVERCOME FOR A TEAM THAT HAS 5 TOUCHDOWNS IN THEIR LAST 14 GAMES!

  15. FireJerryJones says: Nov 14, 2009 11:43 PM

J*E*T*S fans should be proud of their new head coach.
He’s bigger than he’s ever been.
Puleeezz – bring Rex a bag of donuts for this game to fill his pie hole.
And remember. If the Jags score on special teams… that doesn’t really count. If they use a wildcat to run over 100 yards on him… that doesn’t count either.

You guys are such a bunch of dorks…hahahaha

  17. pondbridge says: Nov 15, 2009 3:20 AM

Ryan had his team peaking in Week 2. Shrewd. Fans and players are emotionally exhausted. Rah rah wins one game fatso– its a long season (you’ll see the Rich Kotite ‘Will Coach for Food’ signs in the end zone by Week 3 next year).

  18. MistrezzRachael says: Nov 15, 2009 8:02 AM

When are jet fans going to realize that they’re probably the most hated franchise in the NFL….and it’s got nothing to do w/envy for their multitude of championships.
Noone wins more titles in offseason..or Sept …than the jets…just ask their fans..
Miami swept them…because they are better. Yes, they won ‘their superbowl’ in Sept vs NE…but do not bet your mortgage in them being in the game next time they play.
Finally, you have the CLOWN you wanted for HC…put a tent over that circus
