Cincinnati Bengals fans can breathe a sigh of relief about Cedric Benson.
Benson, the Bengals running back who left today’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers with a hip injury, says he’s going to be OK.
Benson said after the game that the injury wasn’t to his hip joint. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that the injury is a hip flexor strain, and Benson will be on the field against the Raiders next week.
Benson, who came into today averaging more than 100 yards a game, left Sunday’s game in Pittsburgh after just seven carries for 22 yards.
Boy, I really hope he’s right. If it’s a flexor we’re in a bit of trouble. Not that I take any team lightly in the NFL, I would be inclined to rest him next week vs Oakland and make sure he’s 100% against big upcoming games against the Chargers and Vikings.
it was nice to finally see what Scott could do out there with some decent playing time. but yea, get ced back out there.
yeah it would be smart to rest him for the three weeks of quazi byes against Oakland, Cleveland and Detroit but Ced ain’t gonna let it happen. he’s on a mission to lead the league in rushing and make the pro bowl. I wouldn’t want to be the one to get in his way. if he’s good, you gotta let him play.
Where are all the steeler fans? Overconfident suckers!
Benson should be limited at least. The previous two weeks he carried the ball 37 times. That’s just too much. He’s got two capable backups and he’s going to need fresh legs for the home stretch. Sit him down for a series here and there. Most things that go up like a roman candle come down like a scud missile.
Enjoy it while it lasts orangehairs. Don’t get too confident y’all. We’ll see you in the playoffs …
Good thing, they’ll need him healthy for the Raiders.
Managed to type that with a straight face.
Benson going out was actually a positive for the big picture. Scott got meaningful carries, and while he didn’t have a break out game as a running back, he ran hard, gained confidence, and he picked up some key first downs late to hold off the steelers. i think going forward, the bengals can trust scott more in spelling benson, and provide a good one-two punch heading down the stretch.
benson’s injury also shuts up the steeler fans who were just waiting to say “troy wasn’t in the game, blah blah blah”
one minute troy is the end-all be-all of the steelers D, other times harrison is the best player onthe best D. it can’t go both ways.
