Julius Jones breaks rib as Seahawks slide out of NFC West race

While the Seattle Seahawks have suffered through another injury-plagued, forgettable season, they still had a chance to stay in the NFC West race Sunday with a road upset in Arizona.

That chance has now passed.

The Seahawks gamely built a 14-0 lead early and took the lead early in the fourth quarter 20-17 on an Olindo Mare field goal.  But Kurt Warner struck quickly to lead two touchdown drives and Matt Hasselbeck was picked off near the goal line on a shovel pass with under five minutes to go.

Like most Seattle games this season, there was injury to add to the insulting 31-20 final score.

Danny O’Neil of the Seattle Times tweeted after the game that running back Julius Jones suffered a broken rib in the game.  If he can’t play next week, Justin Forsett is likely to start at running back.

With the win, the Cardinals maintain their two game lead over the 49ers in the NFC West.  Seattle is now 3-6.

UPDATE: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Jones experienced bleeding in his lungs after his injury.  He is staying overnight in Arizona as a precaution.

Hope he is not seriously hurt. That being said, this is the best thing that could happen to the Hawks’ running game. Forsett and Rankin looked good behind a suspect O-Line and against a good run D. JJ sucks now, he sucked when they signed him, he sucked when the cowboys cut him and he will always suck. Decent receiver out of the backfield, but I think an RB should be able to run the ball.

Damn! What the hell is happening to my team? As I watched the game today, all I could think about was how sweet it felt to beat the Cards in their house. This is phucked up.

I love how the backup RB runs in for a score, goes to one knee, and doesn’t get flagged. The refs in the NFL suck, some refs will ignore rules because they don’t like them, others will ignore rules because of who broke them.
