Pro Bowler Gross will miss season

The Carolina Panthers have clawed their way back to a 4-5 record, but any chance for a miracle run to the playoffs just got a lot harder.

Pro Bowl left tackle Jordan Gross will miss the rest of the season with a broken ankle suffered in Sunday's game, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Gross was carted off the field in the second quarter of Sunday's win over Atlanta.

The Panthers defense has dramatically improved during the season, and will have to play even better down the stretch now that Gross is out.  At least the Panthers have a capable backup.  Travelle Wharton has a lot of experience at tackle and will slide outside from guard.
