Westbrook suffers another concussion

The Eagles were applauded for playing it safe with Brian Westbrook when they held him out of two consecutive games after a scary concussion.

It appears they didn't play it safe enough.

The Eagles announced that Westbrook was knocked out of Sunday's game against San Diego in the fourth quarter with another concussion.    The setback illustrates how scary head injuries can be.  A player can be medically cleared and you still never know what will happen when he returns to a game situation.

We wish Westbrook well as he recovers from this injury.  We suspect the Eagles will play it even safer before allowing him to the field.

I hope he understands that it's time to hang it up. Great player and wish him well

they aren't a very good team with or without him.

B-west is done.......McCoy dances too damn much, expect 50 passes a game from here on out......

If he was out a couple weeks because of a concussion then finally plays and suffer another one his first game back, I'm thinking for his health now and in the future, I think they should put him on IR and reevaluate his health next season. He is fragile right now and thats not the way to be on a football field.

I think Westbrook should be held out for the season. Eagles dont even run the ball anyway, but I think McCoy gives them a still viable running game, IF they ever choose to run the ball..

Eagles made the right decision to keep him out 2 games he was cleared to play last week, so they made a conservative decision holding him out again. But, man, another concussion? He looked really good today. It's really disappointing

"It appears they didn't play it safe enough." Rosenthal you're getting as bad as Supreme Opinionator Florio. Once he's cleared medically, that means there's no point in holding him out any longer. He won't improve any more medically. There's nothing more to be done. I don't know if these are Westbrook's first two concussions - if they're not then he should consider hanging it up. But you can't judge the staff of the Eagles' medical staff treating one just because he got another AFTER being cleared.

Healthy or not, Westbrook is the 3rd best RB on the roster behind McCoy and Weaver. I hate to say that given all that he has contributed over the past 4-5 yrs., but he is a non-factor. He doesn't make to first guy miss anymore and has no burst. I wish him well in his next career endeavor whatever it may be.

Too many in too short of time. Time to call it quits so you can function later on.

These are just the types of games of ineptitude by the Eagles, that Westbrook has taken over to single handedly save the Eagles season time and again. It is a sad, but, biting reminder of what is lost if he indeed does the smart thing and hang 'em up. He will hang on in hopes of one more post season before officially retiring. This team is not a playoff team, and Westbrook is the end of an era. Let me be the first to toast my favorite player of all time and the best Eagles running back who ever played, remember Westie, family comes first, your too smart to risk playing again. See ya at the Hall of Fame ceremony! Cheers ... you will be missed as you were today.

Among your many articles on concussions over the last year I seem to remember the recommended sit time for someone with the most severe level of concussion such as the one Westbrook had is 4 weeks.

Why are they being applauded for sitting him 2 weeks when it should have been 4 ? They rushed him back and now he's paid the price. He should sit the rest of the season or at a minimum a month. At least if he wants to be able to remember his own name in 10 or 15 years.

This a signal. I hope Westbrook and the Eagles pay attention. Football is just a game.

Oh wow. As a Giant fan. I hate the guy, but I respect the hell out of his skills. I hope they sit him for the rest of the year, because thats big time scary to get concussed twice in a few weeks' time. Its just not worth the long term effects that it could have on him after he hangs it up

    wow.

as an Eagles fan, and a Westbrook fan, i hope he realizes that he shouldn't play again this season.

No point in further injuring a guy that had a great career.. season's over anyway.

    Mike
Your lips to god’s ears! Only three weeks removed from his last concussion, and no evidence of a teeth rattling hit in the Charger game ….. Either Brian does the right thing or his teammates and coaches should. Remember the old commercials “this is your brain; this is your brain on drugs”?

This is why fantasy football encourages ghoulish behavior. I kind of got excited reading this. I'm scum. :(

as a giant fan, bw is great player, I hope he gets better soon. 2 concussions is just not good. I hope the Eagles hold him out the rest of the season.

I am hoping my Eagles go after a Big Running back in the draft this coming off season. The O-line should be better next year, and a Big time Back would be a huge asset to this team that just can't run!

How long have they been "your eagles".....What do you expect Air Reid to suddenly go to the I formation and three yards and a cloud of dust? The O lne is a disaster.....What the hell are you talking about?

  23. Birdbrainsnj says: November 15, 2009 9:56 PM

Yeah, he's done. We'll draft some 4th round terd who dances around for 2 yards. This team blows.

Eagles lost, but they scored more than a garbage-time TD. What did the Cowboys do again?

They're only one game up on the Birds... two up on the Giants... don't count anyone out yet in the NFC Least this season!

  26. DonRSD says: November 16, 2009 8:37 AM

i can see it already.....the FILTHYdelphia fans have their season excuse "westbrook was hurt"

on a side note has anyone ever seen a black man in the lower level of any eagles game?

I never thought to look for different ethnicity's in the crowd.
Please let me know how many Irish you saw.
And did you notice any orientals?...Mid Easterners?...Hispanics?

Please keep us posted, and no matter what anyone says, we appreciate it.
