Boycott doesn't keep Browns fans out

The boycott, by all appearances, didn't work.

Though it's possible that plenty of fans were still milling about in the concourse areas before kickoff, the images from the ESPN broadcast didn't induce any raised eyebrows.  Sure, there were some empty spots in the upper deck in the moments before kickoff -- but there likely would have been empty spots in the upper deck even if two fans who scored a sit-down with owner Randy Lerner hadn't called for a walkout.

By the time the game actually began, it appeared that the stadium was mostly full.

So, basically, the effort to make a statement at the Monday night game has fared about as well as the team about which the statement was going to be made.

Wait for 'em to get blown out and you'll see a protest. There are guys wearing clown suits in the Dawg Pound tho.

Hey Mike, The staduim looked half full to me. Upper deck was just about empty. Look at it again after the first quarter ends. Lower Bowl looked like it was almost full. Then make your comments. And if you don't think this statement by Browns Fan's has not brought national attention to our disgust with the Brown's organization as a whole, then your head is in a very dark and smelly place.

So is there any truth to the rumor that the Ravens and Steelers fans bought up all the tickets to show their support for Mangini?

  9. JoeSixPack says: November 16, 2009 9:32 PM

Good to see that Steelers and Ravens fans were able to mobilize and buy up all available tickets tonight to show their continued support for Mangini.

Imagine Lerner agreeing to meet with fans killed any short term idea of this happening. Time will tell if they wish to try it another time.

are you kidding me? did you watch the game? the stadium barely looked half full at kickoff and by the middle of the 3rd quarter there may have been 20 or 30K people there.

    great fan base!

I agree. At kick off, a good third of the seats were empty, especially above the end zones. ESPN tried to keep the cameras on the fuller sides but even then, there were empty seats.

    I would give the protest a C+

At least some of the fans cared enough to make a point.

It's because that fan doesn't speak for us. Can't stand him. We don't like him because he's a pub whore. When Charlie Frye was QB, he showed up at games dressed like a bag of fries from McDonald's. Loser!

I'm done with this franchise until either Lerner sells, or he actually hires the right people (at the top!) to turn this around. I don't expect either to happen anytime soon.

Joepack is just trying to divert people's attention from the fact that the Steelers were swept by the Bengals on Sunday.

As a Ravens fans, I'd just like to express my respect towards Browns fans (and I'm not being sarcastic at all). Any "fan" can turn tail on their team and jump on some fleeting bandwagon when the going gets tough and their hometown team suffers multiple losing seasons. I respect the Dawg Pound for sticking by their team through thick'n'thin, better or worse. It's a trait that isn't found much in fandom anymore. As an O's fan I empathsize and know this...when that glorious championship day finally comes...I'm going out like Edgar Allan Poe...they will find me dead, drunk in a gutter, in Baltimore.

I thought the fan protest at the END of the game was very effective - hardly anyone in the stadium then.
