A day after 86-year-old Titans owner Bud Adams fired off a double-fisted middle finger to the Buffalo Bills, Adams has issued an apology for his conduct.
Here’s the statement posted on the team’s web site (we caught wind of it via Mort’s Twitter page): “I need to apologize for my actions yesterday near the end of the game,” Adams said. “I got caught up in the excitement of a great day, but I do realize that
those types of things shouldn’t happen. I need to specifically
apologize to the Bills, their fans, our fans and the NFL. I obviously
have a great deal of respect for Ralph Wilson and the history we have
shared. I also understand there will probably be league discipline for
my actions and I will accept those.”
(It’s unknown whether Wilson, 90, responded to Adams’ behavior by muttering, “Kids these days . . . .”)
The discipline will be in the form of a fine. In 2006, then-Falcons quarterback Mike Vick was fined $10,000 and donated $10,000 to charity for shooting a different kind of dirty bird to fans at the Georgia Dome. The following year, kicker Joe Nedney was fined $7,500 for a more subtle “my head itches . . . and by the way f–k you!” maneuver.
Ralph Wilson is 91, get your facts straight Florio… kids these days.
Bud Adams need not apologize to the Buffalo Fans, he was simply acting on behalf of us, and I for one would like to thank him.
Wow, what a gangsta organizations. I think they “need more thugs on (the) team”…
This obviously show how classless the Titans are; from owner to coach to players… Not to mention the silly fans who think they may still have a shot for the playoffs.
I love how when Vick did this some people immediately where like, “What a thug. I can’t believe this thug culture that permeates this league. These thug players are out of control.”
Now this eighty year old white man does it, and those same people are saying, “I applaud this man.” “What wrong with what he did?” and, “It was entertaining.”
The sensibilities of some people really tickle me.
Shannon Sharpe thinks Adams should be fined $75,000,000.00, and sentenced to six years in a Siberian Gulag.
Adams then added (seeing a vending machine) “Ah. A candy shop. Yes, I’ll take two pounds of Bristol’s Toffee. Oh, and don’t wrap it too tightly. I’m hungry now. (nothing happens) You’ve made a powerful enemy today my friend!”

Titans are 3-0 since Fisher put on Peyton’s jersey…..
Has Peyton’s magic rubbed off?
And the post above mine completely proves my point.
A 86yr old white billionaire does this, and somehow this person is able to deduce the brilliant conclusion that the players are “gangsta” because of this.
And the hits keep coming.
With all their money, you’d think that the owners would install heavily-shaded or one-way windows that would enable them to do anything they’d like in the booth.
But they’re too vain. That is, they want the world to know who owns the team on the field. (Why pay billions of you can’t do that!)
The end result is they’re still spending money and getting nothing in return — something they’re accustomed to.
I find this whole thing extremely hilarious
Get off my lawn you damn kids! I’ll give you the finger right back there sonny!
No need for an apology, Mr Adams. That clip made me laugh harder than anything has in a long time, and after watching my Seahawks this season, I can really use a laugh or two. Bud Adams is my new hero.

Yo Abe Froeman…there is one BIG difference, dude. Your boy Mike Vick was flippin’ of the hometown Atlanta FANS, whereas Bud Adams was flippin’ off the much-hated opposing team. It’s been a tough season for us. As a lifelong Oilers/Titans fan, I DO applaud him for it. THANKS BUD, YOU RULE !
Thank you kws767 for providing more evidence of my point.
Both men did the same exact action. To whom either of them did it is completely irrelevant. They both flipped people at a football game, both were completely inappropriate. And Mr Adams was even more flagrant in his actions.
But because you’re a Titans fan, and you’ve had such a tough season (need a tissue?) his behavior is totally justified in your eyes. Despite the fact that both men did the same thing.
And that’s what’s really key about this whole affair. Both men flipped the bird and that is the same. But you’re qualifying the reasons why one man doing it is justified and why it makes the other man a thug shows the depravity of your thinking.
And one more thing, Michael Vick is an idiot, he is as much my boy as he is yours.
($10K per middle finger) X (2 fisted flip off) X (two incidents) = $40,000
This is absolutely hysterical but Abe is right (best nickname on this site btw). Wrong is wrong, anything but an admission of such is just spin. It’s funny the same way your 4 year old kid dropping the F bomb could potentially be funny, but bottom line is it’s still wayyy out of line.
My son (an unapologetic Vince Young fan), says that Bud was just giving the world a “Vince is 3-0 hook ‘em horns” to all the haters. A lot of people in Austin, Texas think that Vince was mis-managed by everyone in the Titans organization but Bud Adams.
You guys all miss the point. He was pointing to the fans and team he thinks are number 1. The fact that he did it with both hands indicates just how strongly he feels that they are number 1.
Oddly enough, this comment was made by a MNF announcer, one of the original crew, at an Oilers game when they were at the bottom of the AFC central and a fan did this when the ABC camera panned over him.
Of course, the camera moved off right away, the announcer made his comment, which had everyone laughing like hell. This was a Dandy Don Meredith classic moment.
Let a rich man do it and all the evil in the world has burst through the gates. A common man does it and we all laugh.
I missed the one with Mike Vick. Wish I would have seen it. I’d have laughed til I cried.
And there’s another one … Bum Phillips during the Saints coaching career he had.
A runner snuck up behind him after a Saints loss and stole his cowboy had. And got away with it.
Brent Musberger had a field day with it on CBS. The CBS show on this played parts of the incident after the game, very cleverly sequenced with Bum Phillips’ after game interview in New Orleans.
Brent comes on talking about how the start of Bum’s career in NO isn’t going the best way, they lost, and then the unthinkable happens. (Pan over to the youngster who sprints behind Bum, steals his hat, takes off UP the stairs to a top level exit and got away with the hat! The Lone Ranger theme is playing while the kid makes off with his prize. Outrageously hilarious.).
(Pan to the local coache’s program) Then the local Coach Show in NO has Bum saying “I probably shouldn’t have pointed him out the way I did,” all very non-chalant. Pan back to Brent’s brilliant sequencing, showing Bum’s right hand high over his head and pointing to the thief, covered with a blacked out diamond in which the word “Bleep!” was diagonally ascending left to right in the triangle.
I still remember this. There was NO league fine that I recall. NO rebuke over the matter. Hell, this was hilarious.
I can’t believe there’s going to be a fine over this. I accept that it’s unacceptable but come on, this can be let go.

If I were a Titan fan I would contribute to his fine to show support for the owner. I think the fine is ridiculous. Are we living in America, just because the man has money is no reason to slap him with a higher fine.
This isn’t characteristic of any particular team, player, owner, hometown, fans, etc. Have you been in the stands for any pro sporting event lately? The stands are peppered with persons shouting profanities and/or insults at the home team, the opposing team, each other, the event staff, the vendors or any other unfortunate soul. All for the bargain price of hundreds of dollars a game, professional sports events aren’t for the faint of heart or families with young children, unless you want them to get an early education. I was at the game and am a Titans fan because they are our hometown team. I missed Bud’s salute, though it played on the Jumbo, because of the racket/distraction of the folks around us yelling at each other or the players on the field, Titans and Bills alike. He was just another of the crowd. I don’t expect the environment to change until the league gets serious about kicking people that are disruptive or disrespectful out of games. I’m not holding my breath, especially after Bud’s gesture.
Abe Froeman, I hope you have the luxury of growing very old, and the capability to reach back in time and slap yourself for your silly, self-righteous comparisons between Vick and Adams. Lighten up. lol.
Well it’s been a few months, and reading your comments just makes me want to read you the bible and cradle you in my bussom. There’s only one way you can think the comparison isn’t apt. We both know what it.
