Seattle Seahawks coach Jim Mora says that in reviewing tape of Sunday’s loss to the Cardinals, he picked out 17 different calls that he thinks the officials missed.
And he’s so furious about one of those missed calls — Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett pressing his forearm into Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck’s throat — that he’s threatening to tell his own players to do the same thing to opposing quarterbacks if the NFL won’t act.
“I turned in 17 plays to the National Football League officiating office today, which is probably three times as many as I have in any game,” Mora said Monday, per the Seattle Times.
Of those 17 plays, the one that made Mora the angriest came when Dockett, on top of Hasselbeck after a sack, stuck his forearm into Hasselbeck’s throat. It was a dirty play that the officials didn’t see, and that Mora didn’t see until Monday morning.
“I didn’t see it until today,” Mora said. “If they’re not going to call it — and it’s a vicious game — and they’re not going to call it, I don’t know. I don’t like it when it’s our quarterback, but if they’re not going to call it then I’d like to see our guys do it to their quarterback.”
Mora can’t really mean that he actually wants his defensive players to cheap shot opposing quarterbacks just because the officials didn’t call it when his own quarterback took a cheap shot, can he?
He says he absolutely means it.
“If that’s not going to be called, then we should be doing it,” Mora said again.
For good measure, Mora repeated it once again when questioned by reporters: “If it’s not going to be then we should be doing it.”
When asked whether Mora can really tell his defensive linemen to drive their forearms into quarterbacks throats, Mora answered, “If it’s legal I can. If it’s illegal then it would be called. If it’s legal then we should be doing it. If it’s legal. I would never advocate us doing anything that’s illegal. . . .
“But if that’s legal, if the league is not going to call that then we should be doing it because it has an effect on the quarterback when he can’t breathe. When Matt’s getting up [making choking/gagging/wheezing sounds] and he can’t breathe, boy, I’d like to see their quarterback doing that. It’s a vicious game.”
You can expect Dockett to be fined when the league reviews the tape of what he did to Hasselbeck. And now you can expect Mora to be fined when the league reviews the tape of what he says he wants his players to do to opposing quarterbacks.

If he reviewed a game against the Steelers or Colts he would be picking out calls until next Wednesday.
Polian just made the call to the back judge for a phantom Pass Interference again.
Hasselback is a huge reason why the NFL has such stupid rules when it comes to QB’s. His bitching about E.J. Henderson’s “cheap shot” in 2006 was like a kid crying because his older brother pushed him down and stole his candy. So I don’t mind seeing him get roughed up from time to time.
But, if it were any other quarterback I’d be appalled at Dockett’s actions. It’s good to see a coach sticking up for his players… even if, in this case, the player is a panzy.
Mora simply drew enough attention to the play – with his threat – that the league is going to have no choice but to fine Dockett. And he’s right, if the league isn’t going to call that crap, than it’s fair game to do it to the other team.
Which is why, again, they’re going to whack dockett with a hefty donation, er, fine.
Mora is supposedly a hometown guy but he’s clearly not equal to the task at hand and the Seahawks show it every time they take the field.
From Mora’s comments ripping individual players (Mare, after Chicago) to encouraging dirty play, he’s really setting an example fans in the Northwest can be proud of.
The best thing that could happen to this franchise is to get blown out the rest of the year so badly that it forces a housecleaning from top to bottom.
Based on the quotes provided here, Mora was careful enough to avoid a fine. But I haven’t heard the press conference so could be missing something.
If the NFL fines Dockett – a big if because that would mean admitting that NFL officials only protect quarterbacks named Tom Brady and Peyton Manning – why should Mora be fined for telling the truth?
“I didn’t see it until today,” Mora said.
The jackass is complaining that they didn’t call a penalty, on a play he didn’t see either.
Urgh.
The Real Shuxion I believe this was a post about the Seahawks and Hasselbeck. Go bitch on the right posts.
maybe a case of sour grapes here?
The refs were horrible this week. I’m waiting for the Bear’s player that punched a Niner to be suspended. He was penalized, and obviously wasn’t ejected…Goodell needs to step it up, too bad he’s a coward.
I hope a reporter asks Mora if his team still has a chance at the playoffs so he can going into a voice-changing meltdown and repeat the word “playoffs” in the form of a question, like his dad once did?
Think Paul Allen is having an Arthur Blank moment right about now?
Hasselbeck isn’t Brady, which is why the league won’t do ANYTHING about it, IF HE”S PRESSING HIS FOREARM INTO HASSELBECKS THROAT, A SUSPENSION SOUNDS MORE APPROPRIATE

Remember the horrible calls against the Seahawks in the the 2005 superbowl?
I’m glad Mora is fired up and hopefully that will rub off on the players!
Hate to admit it, but Dockett did do that and it was blatant. He should get fined.
The Vikes are going to have to lay out Mora if they lay a hand on Favre this weekend. ; )
It was very clear live that it was a horrible cheap shot. It wasn’t even during the action of the play, it was as Dockett was getting back up and he basicly choked Hassleback.
As a Niner fan I don’t really have much love for the Seahawks, but it was an absolute clear cheap shot.
As a Cards fan, I was not pleased to see Dockett’s move. It was a punk thing to do.
But with that said, Matt H. dusted off his thespian skills for that one. One minute you think he is dying on the field, then when he realized the refs weren’t going to call anything, he magically was healed and back in the huddle to call the play.
Honestly, after last years game, when Matt H. in the post game news conference called for fines against the Cardinals… I don’t know, there seems to be a pattern here.
