NFL fines Bud Adams $250,000

The NFL has fined Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams $250,000 for flipping a double bird during Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills.

The fine is a swift and decisive action by the league that misconduct won't be tolerated, whether it's players on the field or owners in luxury boxes.

Adams apologized, and he indicated that he knew a fine was coming.

"I need to apologize for my actions yesterday near the end of the game," Adams said.  "I got caught up in the excitement of a great day, but I do realize that those types of things shouldn't happen.  I need to specifically apologize to the Bills, their fans, our fans and the NFL.  I obviously have a great deal of respect for Ralph Wilson and the history we have shared.  I also understand there will probably be league discipline for my actions and I will accept those."

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told Adams of the fine today. Goodell was at the game and sat with Adams for part of it but was reportedly sitting in the stands among the fans at the time that Adams flipped the birds.

Pretty F-ing sad that one finger is worth more than I'll make in 4 years. Thanks for the slap in the face.

Some NFL charity is about to get some very good news.

You couldn't buy the type of positive fan PR he just got from Tennessee for 250k.

Maybe he shouldn't have said that. He basically wrote a blank check to the NFL.

Young black money giving the finger(s) to the fans??? $2,500 to $75,000 -- Old white guy double pumping the "you can have the middle" fine equals - a quarta mil!

Gay bashing gets you a new contract, killing dogs, running over mexicans outside of crosswalks while driving gets you a new contract. Telling people to fuck themselves? Quarta mil.

"Do some reporting and let us know where these fines go please!"

The fines go to charity, the NFL does not retain the funds.

    WOW to much

Chad Ochostinko can do anything he wants and never gets fined nearly this much!!!

Yet an owner does this one time and gets fined $250,000 dumb

This is incredibly doubtful. THE ROGE doesn't sit with peons. I would be surprised if he humbled himself to the point of using a public restroom.

So if the money goes to charity does he get a tax deduction? What a brilliant plan.

the fine money goes to one of 4 charities

I don't think you understand how tax deductions work. It's not $250k less in taxes, it's $250k he won't pay taxes on, so he's still coming out way behind.

    Bud, you're not alone.
Myself, along with every Bills fan that I know flipped them off too!

  21. Fan_Of_ Four says: November 16, 2009 6:15 PM

What is wrong with this picture ?

This guy can pay a 250k fine like the average guy pays a parking ticket. No wonder the players want to squeeze the owners for everything they can.

Next, the 86 year old will moon 'em.

  23. theillestnino says: November 16, 2009 6:23 PM

So that is the integrity of nfl owners that rush had to live up to. I would have though him to be a shoo in.

  24. Dean Keaton says: November 16, 2009 6:25 PM

$250K?? HOW IS THIS EVEN ON THE SAME LEVEL OF MAGNITUDE AS SPYGATE?!?!?!?

The Patriots defrauded all of their opponents for years, along with the fans of the NFL. I agree that an owner should never flip the bird to an opposing team, but making the fine this amount sends a message that it is akin to cheating multiple teams out of wins in regular season, playoff, and Super Bowl games. A total outrage.

  25. OntBoltFan says: November 16, 2009 6:26 PM

Never seen anything as retarded. An 86 yr old grandfather behaving like Avril Lavigne.

  26. Bob Loblaw says: November 16, 2009 6:28 PM

The same amount Belichick coughed up for who knows how many years of videotaping opponents' signals.

Way to get it right again Sh*tforbrains Goodell.

  27. shafetpnboys says: November 16, 2009 6:36 PM

Why would Adams even do that?
Is he a just a total Idiot, or an Owner that gets a severe case of the Red-A_ _ over something totally irrelevant??
250K to him is nothing... and he is probably laughing about it -- while on his private jet.
    Dear NFL:
Fine him steeply (at least 1-Mil) & send him to Anger Management... or take his team away!

  28. AdrenalineJunkie says: November 16, 2009 6:37 PM

This is pretty hilarious... everyone's standard for how "bad" filming opposing signals was, was the amount of $$$... that was the indication that it was really serious, correct?

Well, the Patriots were fined $250,000 for filming an opponent's sideline. Bud Adams gets the same for flipping a bird at an opponent's sideline...

So basically filming signals has just as much effect on a game as flipping a bird - this should keep the haters entertained for quite some time, hahahahahahahahahah

  29. durno99 says: November 16, 2009 6:46 PM

Right is right and wrong is wrong! If it is $10,000 for Vick it should be $10,000 everyone!!!!!!!!!!! It should not matter who or what you have!!!!!!!!!!! Brett Favre did it leaving the Metrodome years back and it was smothed over by an appology to his Mom? Mike Vick can kill animals and come back and play but Rush can't buy a team because he is using freedom of speech? Is this fair or is this racism!!!!!!!! Maybe white people are held to a stricter standard. It is what it is and was funny! But QUIT making things subjective to who it is, what they have, and their social backround!

  30. houskat says: November 16, 2009 6:47 PM

    bribe a ref =20.000
    flip the bird =250.000

    uhmm!!!

  31. Brewster says: November 16, 2009 7:01 PM

    $250,000K are you kidding?

He should have closed his fist and broken an assistant coach's jaw.

There's no cost for doing that in the NFL, it doesn't even merit an investigation.

    What a joke.

But then there's no fear Adams will file a lawsuit against the NFL.

    Priorities, priorities.

For the love of god, when are you douchebags going to admit that New England got caught cheating ONCE. If they had been doing it every week for years, the league would have caught them sooner.

And once they were caught, they STILL won 18 games in a row with the spotlight of the football worl shining on their every move.

Will you losers please find a different and LEGITIMATE drum to bang constantly. It's not the Patriot's fault that the (insert the name of your favorite team) suck.

These "stands" are actually the luxury sky boxes with fans that don't pay much attention to the game itself.

You guys who think this is too much money should remember that he is an owner of an NFL team and therefore he must present himself in a manner that is higher than the players.

    _____________

Maybe, just maybe, Adams flipped the bird at Goodell instead of the Bufalo fans, on behalf of millions of fans who think Goodell deserves it.

Did Goodell consult with Shannon Sharpe to determine the amount of this fine? Seems a bit steep, but I guess that 83 year old needed to be taught a lesson. I'm surprised Goodell didn't push for lethal injection.
