Bengals kick Galloway's tires

Joey Galloway’s career may not be over quite yet.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports the Bengals worked out the former Patriot/Buc/Cowboy/Seahawk on Tuesday, in addition to safety Mike Doss and defensive tackle Ed Johnson.

The Bengals have replaced Chris Henry from within to this point, but Galloway could be an option down the line if the team feels it needs another vertical threat.

Laveranues Coles has improved his play of late, but lacks the speed he had early in his career.  Slot receiver Andre Caldwell is another traditional possession receiver.  Galloway still appeared to have his speed with the Patriots, but struggled to adapt to their system.

Protip: If the Patriots let them go, there’s probably a good reason for it. Likewise, the Colts.
Still, I like this new aggressive Bengals approach. The LJ signing will be a good one.

That could be a good match for the Bengals…..assuming their playbook calls for the WRs to run around randomly, and occasionally just fall down.
The Raiders would probably be a better fit.

Caldwell isn’t a possession receiver. Possession receivers aren’t as fast as him. Go back and look at his 40 times from the combine.
The guy has the ability to grow into an impressive deep threat over time but he’s not there yet. Only his second season and he’s caught some big passes and made great strides.

Galloway runs a sraight 9 route.
Flopped in Dallas… and New England.
On the plus side he won’t be in the news on DUI or wife beating.
Nice change of pace for a Bengals WR

The guy can’t catch the ball.

The Bengals should trade for Michael Clayton of the Bucs. Their season is done and he thinks he is unfairly treated. Let him prove it.

    Gregg:
Interesting notes here. I think that the looks at these vets are a sign that the Bengals staff is preparing for a longer haul this season. The team is very light at DT, S and WR with respect to veteran experience. What happens if a guy goes down for the season suddenly? The front office is showing some due diligence in evaluating the options now for those situations should they ensue so that they have more ability to act quickly.
The LJ signing is an example of that pro-active approach. Ced Benson has been more than advertised but also has been asked to carry the ball even more than expected. When a guy is on pace for 400 carries and is a large part of your Offensive success, you need to have a good Plan B if he goes down (which is likely for a guy toting it 25-30 times a game). The Bengals have some good situational guys behind Benson, but Scott and Leonard aren’t the types that will be successful with the plow horse formula. Nobody in Cincy is celebrating that LJ is coming to town, but the potential reward is probably bigger than the worse case scenario risk.
And just because the team is kicking tires, it doesn’t suggest at all that they are interested in trading draft picks for re-treads and/or for are looking up grannie’s underpants for a special surprise. When Tom Coughlin brought in 15 guys to evaluate a week ago, did everyone think that the G-Men were cleaning house? Of course not — but that was Coughlin practicing the Girl Scout motto.
Lastly, anyone out of a job at this point in time likely has some rust under the hood and/or skeletons in the proverbial closet. But at 7-2 and riding 2nd in their Conference, the Bengals now have to think about more than getting a top 10 draft pick next spring. Maybe it won’t work out, but at least they are thinking big for once.

…..and those tires are worn out.

    West TX,
I’ve been bummed about the LJ thing all day, thinking it was just my Bengal’s way of trying to remain the Bungles.
Your perspective makes me more hopeful.
I like looking into Doss and know he’s a winner from his days as a Buckeye and with the Colts, still a little weary about LJ. But I think you are right that they are being pro-active and thinking big!
    thanks Tex!

Galloway can still fly and stretch the D … just wasn’t in synch with Brady.

firejerryjones, what bengals WR has been in the news for DUI or wife beating? Or any other legal matter? Stick to trying to figure your own team out, worst 6-3 team in the league, luckliy the NFC East isn’t what you all crack it up to be.
