Pennington still holding out hope of playing

When Dolphins quarterback Chad Pennington suffered another serious shoulder injury earlier this season, many believed that he'd never play again.

Though he hasn't made any decisions, he could be back.

"I can't make the decision until I get to the point where I see how I feel and how it responds," Pennington said Tuesday at a Dolphins luncheon, per the Associated Press.  "Then I can say I've given it everything I can give it to make the right decision for me and my family.

"I'm going full steam ahead for the next five months.  My goal is by March 1 to be ready to work out for any team, including this team, and be able to make a decision where I can go into an offseason program full steam ahead not considered an injured athlete."

"This team," the Dolphins, might not be an option, given that Pennington's contract is due to expire and Chad Henne is getting it done.  Then again, if he's willing to be the backup to Chad Henne, he could make $1.5 million or so per year to hold a clipboard, and to be ready to step in on a moment's notice.

not hard to be accurate when you can't throw the ball more than 10 yards downfield

Somebody please tell me he couldn't lead a team like the 49ers or the panthers to the playoffs. He is a great player who plays mistake free football. I love him as a player and a human being...no one works harder.

You obviously haven't watched either Quinn or Anderson play. I'd take Pennington any day, assuming the line could protect him.

always liked Chad, the Bills should bring him in next camp to challenge Trent or the rookie we draft.

Raiders need to drop a brinks truck to sign Pennington...put him together with Chucky and were talking wild card in

Russell is killing the team, and will finish Tom Cable

Should return and play backup, bound to get a shot again eventually or retire richer.
    Not a hard choice.

Pennington would be a good fit in a west coast team that thrives on 5 to 15 yard passes. Right up his alley. I've never seen a QB with an arm as weak as his have any success in the NFL, but he's done it.

chad do us both a favor and quit while your ahead. at least there will be a solid group of fans out there that still like you on your way out. everyone knows when you go back you simply will not top afc east division champs, and no one will remember the first few games of this year. thanks a lot though, (sadly)you led one of the more monumental dolphins seasons since ive been a fan.

A few things can still happen this year that allows the Vikings to bring in another old, washed-up, injury prone, blah, blah, to start and "mentor" Jackson next year. There's alwasy been a trend of the Vikings doing this from time to time. Nah, maybe it's just me.

I wish Pennington would take the money to back up Henne, and then stay on as a QB coach or something like that. Classy guy, great mind...horribly weak arm.

Careful Chad, you could end up in Cleveland or Detroit.

I can see the Mangenius giving up a couple of 1st round picks for Chad and a 6th rounder.

Hey, we still have Cribbs...maybe he could be tossed into that deal, too!

You obviously don't know your stuff, the guy has had a great completion percentage for balls that went 20+ yards. His % on those throws was a lot better than Lord Favre, Jay Cutler, Jamarcus Russell, Brady Quinn, and ect. Just cause you have a cannon dosn't mean you can accurately throw the ball down the field.

I had this same surgery that Pennington has had and it is a tough one to rehab from. Rehab is long and monotonous, you lose a lot of mobility and thats not something a QB wants to hear. I wish the guy the best of luck.

Raiders should sign him, like right after free agency.

The most competent quarterback available for 2010. It's hard to find an available quarterback that's the smartest person in the stadium. He needs to do what is best for him. He gave Miami his best and it will always be the place he is welcome and admired.

Whatever he decides to do, I'll always be a fan. Thanks for helping drag the Dolphins out of their unprecedented funk
