As it turns out, Sunday’s double-barreled middle-finger routine from Titans owner Bud Adams wasn’t his first experience with the New York state bird.
Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean explains that, back in 2000, Adams was asked upon receiving his AFC championship ring what he’d do if the team he moved from Texas to Tennessee ever won a Super Bowl ring.
In response, Adams held up a single digit on his right hand and said, “I’ll put it on the middle finger and say to the mayor of Houston to take a look at it.”
Suddenly, we’re rooting for the Titans to win the Super Bowl.
Adams, who was in his late 70s at the time, wasn’t fined for the incident. Maybe the league accepted his explanation that it was simply a youthful indiscretion.
And, coincidentally, the Texans Titans play in Houston on Monday night. We’re assuming that ESPN will train one camera at all times on Adams’ hands.
Titan, not Texans.
how is it a coincidence that the Texans play in Houston?
You mean the Titans play in Houston Monday night?
Ravens – Browns
Titans – Texans
Who picks Monday night games?
He wasn’t giving the middle finger, he was saying “We’re #1″
Still marvelling over that amount, $250K for flipping someone the bird.
Just a bit excessive for the crime. Kinda like fining a motorist 6 months in jail for coming to a rolling stop at a stop sign.
Isn’t it about time for someone (like you Florio) to request an accounting from the NFL to disclose which charities are receiving this fine money? And to also disclose if 100% of the fine monies go to the charities or if the NFL deducts an administrative fee, and if so how much.
Am I the only one on this site who thinks Das Fuhrer Goodell has gone a bit overboard with these fines and we the fans deserve some explanation of where this money is being distributed?
It coincides with his comment of giving the finger to the mayor of Houston.
Reading comprehension FTW
$250K – don’t think he will do it again, but then again we are talking about Bud Adams…
I always wonder what the problem is with these franchises. They leave their city, because the fans dont support them, and then the city gets another team….. Doesnt that mean that the problem wasnt a lack of support?
Cleveland packs up and heads to Baltimore, and then Cleveland gets a new team…….
Houston packs up and heads to Nashville, and then Houston gets a new team……
Side note, Cleveland, you got rid of those terrible uniforms, and that terrible team nickname, and you had a second chance, and you idiots decided to name your new team, the Browns, seriously?????
He was giving the fingers to Jeff Fisher and “The Media” for giving Kerry Collins a pass for 7 weeks. No other QB in the NFL could of played that poorly and still got the praise of Kerry Collins. Im sorry but the only QB who deserve a blind following like the one Collins received is Drew Bledsoe, and I think we all know why. “No really Kerry Collins is better than Vince Young, No really. Believe me please.” I wish Jeff Fisher would jump off a bridge and get sea-weed stuck all up in his beard and then we could call him “Swamp Thing”
Florio, you need to post the “coolest old guy, ever” scene from the movie “Waiting”. TOTALLY Bud!!!
I disagree Cmoney20, Jake Delhomme comes to mind……
The only reason he isnt beating Cutler in the “who can throw more picks” contest, is because the Panthers only let him throw the ball 2 times per offensive series, LMFAO
Bill Cowher’s Chin,
Vince Young was Kerry Collins backup and they were 0-6. After they won 2 games with Vince they were still saying it wasnt Collins’ fault and Vince was speaking Ebonics in the huddle. Fisher was telling anyone who would listen his hands were tied.
Matt Moore/AJ Feeley is Jake Delhomme’s backup and Delhomme has a stalker. Jake Delhomme is the funnest player to watch on Sunday.
If the Panthers were 0-6 Fox would have benched Delhomme, he wouldnt have had to have his 80 something year owner have to tell him what makes common and business sense.
I hope Jeff Fisher falls in a tub of peanut butter and an elephant walks by and sucks him up through his trunk. Argh! Fisher
What would happen if he redused to pay the fine. Seems Goodell has complete authority to do whatever he chooses when he chooses. 250K is ridiculous.
No Brewster, you are not alone.
The NFL continues to live up to the “No Fun League” nickname.
Jake Delhomme is a turn over machine, and he still hasnt been benched, my point is that Kerry Collins wasnt winning games, but he wasnt throwing 4 picks, and losing 3 fumbles every week. I agree that Young should have been given a chance earlier, but you make it seem like Collins is the only QB int he history of football to have a 6 game stretch of poor play. And to be honest, he play was far superior to Delhomme. I dont care either way, Collins, Young, and Delhomme all suck……
How much was Randy Lerner fined for flipping off the Brown’s Fans?
Cmoney20 says:
“Im sorry but the only QB who deserve a blind following like the one Collins received is Drew Bledsoe, and I think we all know why. ”
Ummm, exuse me if I’m being ignorant, but I have no idea what you’re talking about
You GO, Bud Adams!!!!
I’d like to suggest that 24″ x 36″ poster shots of Bud doing the double birdie in the booth window be sold as Titan Memorabilia for $40 each!
It would easily offset the fine, and the NFL would probably sanction it too, for a piece of the action!
Laughs…
Bill Cowhers Chin,
No I didnt make it seem like that. Your just implying that. In my opinion, Ive never heard so much defending of the QB as in the situation in TEN that was going on earlier this year. Even after they made the decision to switch to Young, Fisher was still bitching about having to start him. Ive personally never seen that.
No one defends Delhomme like they did Collins, he just stinks and their is no ther option. Delhomme should never be benched under any circumstances. There is nothing funner than watching him spaz out after every play. He is just amazing TV in my opinion and the Panthers would be doing everyone a dis service if they went with someone else. And I dont want him to lose his stalker.
Right, Vince Young is awesome. He is 21-11 as a starter since entering the league so I would pretty much say the switch never should of been made to begin with. Vince Young about to kill himself is a better QB than Collins.
If I have to explain why you dont question Drew Bledsoe in anything he ever does then I feel we have taken a step back as a society.
