Wilson releases statement on Jauron firing

For the first time since 1986, the Bills made an in-season coaching change when Dick Jauron was fired Tuesday.   Owner Ralph Wilson released a statement shortly after the news broke:

“I am announcing today that I am relieving Dick Jauron from his duties
as our head coach, effective immediately,” said Wilson.  “I have tremendous respect for Dick and thank him for all of
his efforts during these past four years. While this was a very
difficult decision, I felt that it is one that needed to be made at
this time for the best interest of our team. We will now focus on
moving forward and preparing for our game this week in Jacksonville.”

The team has not announced who the interim coach will be yet, but defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is believed to be a leading candidate.

The firing comes a day after defensive end Aaron Schobel questioned the team’s direction and two days after a late game meltdown against the Titans.

“I am announcing today that I am relieving Dick Jauron from his duties as our head coach, effective immediately,”
What he meant to say is, “I’m an idiot of the highest ranks. My ability to run this team into the ground is unsurpassed. Dick Jauron was the best I could do. I will now turn my efforts to rebuilding this once proud, almost proud, Ahh “F” it! We’ve always sucked and will always suck! It’s either the Bills or Niagra Falls you sons of bitches, you choose! Now where’s my vodka dammit!”

As a Bears fan, I KNEW this was going to happen the second the Bills hired Jauron. I told a couple of friends who are Bills fans “This team isn’t going to win anything, and he will eventually get fired.”
How did this guy even get hired? Why do teams waste time on coaches who have proven to be mediocre at best? That’s pretty much 4 years down the drain right there. 4 years wasted. 4 years that could’ve been spent building the team in a different direction, or just plain building SOMETHING. Now it’s rebuilding time all over again for a team that doesn’t even have any kind of identity or direction.

horrible in Chicago.. I don’t know why Bills even hired him.

When did Jauron ever make it to mediocre? He reached his level of incompetence as a head coach. He’s done nothing but fail at it.

Like that idiot Dan Snyder you can’t let the OL slip as it will bring down the entire team with it.
Losing Peters hurt but they were fools to not get a replacement in the draft or FA. Bell is a 7th rnd pick and this guy is going to protect your franchise QB.
This was a huge risk going into the season and then they had $6M to burn for TO? Bad personnel moves and some injury bad luck is the reason for their bad record not coaching. Actually bonehead kick returners cost them 2 games on their own.
Ralph Wilson is a giggling old fool.

Bills, Bengals, Lions, Raiders, Bears, Cleveland = Dog Sh!t organizations.

the bungles have 7 wins. that’s some high class dog crap.

Sometimes, a coach who hasn’t done well in the past goes somewhere else and succeeds… terry francona, for example. I had to deal with the nonsense in Philly for years. But its not always their fault. In this case however, as a lifelong Bills fan, thank freaking god. Its about time.

  21. Alzado's Vein says: Nov 17, 2009 8:21 PM

Wilson hired him because Jauron wouldn’t demand a lot of cash. Wilson has notoriously been a tightwad when it comes to head coaches salaries.
With attractive candidates such as Holmgren, Cowher, Shanahan, and Gruden out there, Wilson had better make an effort to bring one of these guys in. These guys will not come cheap, but winning never does.
If Wilson fails to even reach out to these guys, my theory about him will be true – he desires mediocrity in his product. This will keep the fans hungry, knowing the team is very close to playoff contention. This will generate revenue by keeping asses in the seats. Yet, he won’t have to pay top dollar for a big name coach and staff. Greed basically. He dangles hope in the fan’s faces every year. And we keep coming back for the same old mediocrity. The fans should demand more from this organization. After all, theres no excuses this off season. The big names are out there and looking for work.

In how many interviews/press conferences doe TO need to say “I just go with the plays that are called,” before you fire the head coach and try to get someone in there who will do what TO wants?
Apparently, in Buffalo, the answer is two.
