Wow, sometimes you can get really frightened about the future of humanity by reading comments on a football board.
Browns fans, listen once and for all:
Lerner must sell the team, and to the right person, or there will never be a chance of being a champion of anything. PERIOD
Get that? Sorry, but discussing Mangini, Kokinis, Savage, etc… will just be exercises in self gratification.
One other thing, to the guy who said that Mangini stockpiled (11) draft picks by trading Edwards and Winslow. Do you know what you are talking about?
He traded Winslow for a second (David Vekune, a guy even Hawaii people weren’t that familar with), and a fifth this year. We will get a third and a fifth for Edwards.
Winslow was the 5th pick in the first round and Edwards was the 3rd pick in the first.
They were the only two viable playmakers on the Browns, and two guys that they desperately need now. If he kept them, and they had decent seasons, he could get far, far more for them then they got.
Mangini flat out got worked in these two deals. Then he made a horrible decision on the second rounder he got for Winslow.
Heck with Mangini, until Lerner goes we have no hope. Whether Mangini could have made it as a head coach or not isn’t the issue anymore. He cannot bounce back from this mess and re-build the Browns into champions anymore. Its all turned to quicksand. The problem starts at the top and trickles all the way down.
Keep the ballboy. He has potential.

The problem sim448 is that he tinkered with the one thing that was working. The offensive line. And his handling of Cribbs who deserves what he is asking for should be enough for “cause” especially after the Monday night game.
Aside from that, he’s tyranical and that is killing the spirit of this team, keeping players away and driving players away.
But there is plenty of blame that needs to be assigned to Randy Lerner. And things won’t get better until he wises up and I don’t know if he will ever be a good owner and make the right choices.
I can’t wait until Mangini is gone. I hated the hire from day one.
I’m tired of being laughed at for being a Browns fan.

No way do you fire part way through the year. I think getting someone in place as soon as possible to run the organization is a good idea because it will give that person a chance to work with the current staff to see if they can co-exist together. However, if the new Czar feels that Mangini is not the right man for they job then yes they need to fire him at the end of the year. Bring in their own people and put together a quality draft this year. Do not let Mangini have another year for the sake of giving him another year. But the most important thing is getting someone in to run the organization NOW so they can evaluate everyone in the organization and make changes before next year.
I’m Ashamed and I approve this message.

Sorry but clearly the Browns are a poorly coached football team and there is not a single shred of evidence they’re getting better.
I don’t care that much because I’m not a Browns fan but any fan base deserves better than what that genius is putting on the field. There isn’t a plan, this isn’t something where they need to tweak a few kinks – the team is going in reverse and the only thing that’s amazing about it is that Mangini somehow discovered there is a 4th reverse gear that’s putting them into darkness faster than anyone could have imagined.

AN OPEN LETTER TO RANDY LERNER:
Sir,
NO MORE Browns games for me this year. At least that’s my intention after the Monday night game. I’m still a Browns fan, but I can’t watch any more of “that”.
So Randy, you stick with Eric, or do anything you want for that matter. You can’t get any worse of a product on the field than that. Although you may want Eric to look at the defense now. They’re actually not that bad. They have room to get worse. Let’s put it that way.
One last question. With your 20 plus million ex-coaches fund, could you find it in your heart to at least buy my Browns gear back? I sure can’t wear my jacket any more. The last time I wore it out of my back yard was to dinner last week. My wife and I went to the local steak house and as we walked in people started laughing. Then one guy started choking on his steak, while still laughing. He’s alright now but a sheriffs deputy said I should be careful with the jacket in public. I turned around and he was laughing too.
So you continue and be loyal to Eric. I’m sure he deserves your loyalty more than the Browns fans do.

We also can’t help but wonder whether Lerner quietly is building a case for firing Mangini “with cause.” The fact that the Browns applied such an approach to former G.M. George Kokinis suggests that no one is immune…

Sorry to say, but he IS the one who picked the qb’s. He had a chance to pick a qb of his choice in the 2009 draft. If he felt he couldn’t win with either one of the qb’s on the team, he could have drafted Sanchez or whoever he wanted and probably would have gotten a free pass this year and possibly next year with the “rookie quarterback” excuse. Right or wrong the blame lays with the head of the team and that is Mangina.

Let’s be honest, the downfall to Crennel was the injuries to Anderson and Quinn.
You look at the stats from last year between week 1 and week 11, they make us look great compared to this years team.
If it weren’t for Quinn injuring his finger, we wouldn’t even have this conversation right now.
Chudzinski should have remained as the O-coordinator. I can somewhat see the reasoning behind getting rid of Edwards, but Winslows sure hands were an asset.
Let me add this tidbit, if they lose to the Lions starting @ 1pm on Saturday, then it shows, you have a coach, who can’t get his team to compete against lower tier teams.
The Browns have the Lions, Raiders and Chiefs – three teams that are on the same level – if they don’t squeeze out a win against one of those three, there is no justification on keeping Mangini through the end of the season.

Let Mangini stay for the rest of the year- but Mr. Lerner, can you see how the defensive coordinator actually is IMPROVING the defense noticeably? -and can you see that the offense looks worse than it ever has before? Lerner cannot fire Mangini. Last year’s team implodes under Romeo. When Mangini was hired it was with the understanding that he would have to dismantle this team and then build a new one. He got rid of Edwards and Winslow who were the biggests threats on offense. I agree they needed to go. Mangini stockpiled the draft for next year so we now have 11.
This was the plan. I knew this is what was going to happen. I don’t know why everyone else is so surprised. Is Mangini kind of an ass. Yes. But he still deserves to finish this out. Will he be successful? I don’t know.

Lerner owed butch davis $12M and normal settlement would have been approx $8M, but Lerner said he wanted to honor the contract and paid butch in full. Now he realizes the value of dads money and is looking for “cause.”

Here’s the problem with firing these two idiots “With cause”….THEYRE IN THEIR FIRST YEAR!!! That will be both of their biggest arguments. The biggest problem with firing Mangini with cause is, since the day he was hired he’s publicly been an incompetent bafoon. Unlike Lane Kiffin, who had been far into his contract and then magically morphed into a jerk(or so the crypt keeper says) Mangini has shown no signs of anything other than being a complete A-Hole. And since he’s been an incompetent baffoon from the start that means Lerner is the bigger incompetent baffoon for hiring this yokel witout due diligence.
So, that being said and the math being done, there is truly only one person in Cleveland who needs to be fired with cause and that’s the one person who’s job is the safest.(unless he gives another crook the keys to his house and gets robbed of not only his money but his job.)
