Quinn fined "significant" amount for hit on Suggs

Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn says the NFL fined him a “significant” amount of money for a low hit on Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs during Monday night’s game.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Quinn confirmed today that he has been fined, although he declined to reveal a specific dollar amount.

The hit on Suggs came after Quinn threw an interception to Chris Carr. Quinn dove at Suggs’ knees, but he said after the game that he was just trying to make the tackle on Carr, not to injure Suggs.

The people close to Suggs didn’t buy it.
After the game, Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis went off on Quinn, and Suggs’ agent, Gary Wichard, said he was furious.

Suggs limped off the field after Quinn hit him and didn’t return to the game. There’s no word yet on the severity of Suggs’ injury.

Poor Suggs the thugg – He’s made a career of hitting people dirty, what goes around comes around. It’s just sad he couldn’t take out Ray Lewis too….

Isn’t it punishment enough that he has to play for Mangini ?

  3. KingJoe! says: Nov 18, 2009 12:25 PM

Lewis probably would have preferred Quinn just stab him. The Ravens commit dirty hits all the time; heck they targeted Mendahall last year and broke his shoulder. Shut Ray, Shut up Suggs.

  4. rodstiffington says: Nov 18, 2009 12:26 PM

Ray Lewis went off on Quinn? So Lewis stabbed him then?
And besides, being QB for the Browns is punishment enough.

So cheap shot, I don’t know nothin about those dead bodies Lewis, is pissed off at Quinn. How many cheap shots has Lewis or Boo Boo Wichard clients have done on other players?

Wasn’t there a bit of a stink about Suggs going after a QBs knees earlier in the year?

Uhhh “shut up Suggs”? Suggs hasn’t said a word.
The hit on Mendahall was a tackle against the ball carrier not a blind hit or cheap hit just a tackle.

You guys are a bunch of ignorant idiots. First of all, Suggs has not made a career of “hitting people dirty.” Secondly, the Ravens didn’t break Mendenhall’s shoulder on purpose, he came through the hole and got smoked. Thirdly, ray Lewis didn’t commit murder. He was proven innocent, and was slapped with an obstruction of justice charge. This is a little bit of postive energy coming back at you Suggs for that nice dive at Brady’s knees in the NWE game. I’d say “maybe now you will think twice,” but I don’t think thinking before acting or talking is your strong suit. That would be a bit much to hope for.

Since when is Suggs a dirty player?????? I’ve never seen him cheap shot anyone.
And i’m assuming you’re a Steelers’ fan, which makes it all the more ironic considering you have the undisputed dirtiest player in the league, Hines Ward, according to his peers.

You lost your credibility right there, Slim.
Go take a look at the video of Suggs going directly for Tom Brady’s knees in week 3, I believe, and then say that again with a straight face. I posted a link to it in another Suggs thread yesterday.
God knows how many cheap, dirty shots he’s taken at other teams that I don’t folow regularly.
He’s a thug who got what he’s always dishing out, and you’re an idiot who blindly defends this jack-a$$. And can somebody stick a rag in Ray Lewis’ yap? The most hypocritical jerk-off on that team. As was pointed out by others, Lewis trashed Brady after the Suggs penalty, yet when it’s that same dirty thug teamate getting hit, the skirt becomes a different color, right?

    ugotflaccoed…
I understand you’re a homer, but shut up.
OJ Simpson was proven innocent too.
I think what people are alluding to is that these hothead defensemen for the Ravens have a reputation putting bounties on players’ heads (fact), and making some questionable hits, yet complain like little b*tches when something bad happens to them. Case in point, a Ravens player hits a QB low and gets fined/penalized; same thing happens to their QB and they’re tight-lipped as can be.
I think it’s obvious to everyone not named Ray Lewis that Quinn wasn’t trying to injure Suggs. He was put in a situation unfamiliar to him, didn’t really know WHAT to do and instead of getting leveled by Suggs, went to the ground like a little girl he is. He did the crime, now he’s paying the fine…get over it.

“Respect the game the way the game is supposed to be played,” Lewis said. “I understand what Brady Quinn is saying after the fact. But when you go diving at a man’s knee when he doesn’t even have the football? Whatever. You penalize us as defensive players so much for doing our jobs, and then you see someone not doing his job, just spearing a man’s knee? That ain’t good football. You can’t just apologize and say ‘Oh, I didn’t mean to do it.’ People don’t realize that’s life changing. That’s someone’s career. There is no dollar amount on losing someone like [Suggs]. So to lose a man on a play that’s not within the rules of the game? That hurts.”

Thank you. No fan of any team has a right to complain about any illegal hits until their franchise QB is the recipient of a running frog splash by a defensive tackle AFTER the play is over, resulting in a broken rib. McNabb never complained about the hit. It’s a strange world when McNabb is a better man for taking a hit than Terrell Suggs.

“Innocent” men like Ray Lewis and O.J. Simpson usually don’t give million dollar payouts in civil court to the victim’s families if they are totally without blame. Although not a fan of Roethlisberger, the way he has handled his ‘rape’ case shows how innocent men act in a situation like that; angry, and willing to go to the mat over it. Not open up a wallet.
Terrell Suggs went for Tom Brady’s legs earlier in the season, I knew I had heard something about that. Watching the video around the 5 minute mark, Brady had already gotten rid of the ball and is watching Suggs as he comes directly at his surgically repaired knee. After Brady sidesteps the low blow, flags come out and several players are pointing at Suggs on the ground.

The ravens should be more concerned that they played to the level of a 1-8 team. It was 0-0 until the 3rd–the ravens only scored 1 offensive touchdown against the worst team in the league. The other score was a pick 6 courtesy of quinn and a field goal.

I’m pretty sure Baltimore tried numerous times to get an expansion team. Unfortunately, Tagliabue helped his boy JKC and put a team in Jacksonville. ok, I knew the OJ references were coming. Innocence in the court room doesn’t always mean innocent in reality. I think he was innocent of the crime, maybe because I am a blind homer. But when people equate Terrell Suggs falling into Brady’s knee( which was barely a graze I might add) to calling him a dirty player is a joke. Try backing up a theory or two rather than spew ignorant venom. And to GOBrowns19, we lost our team and all our records to Indianapolis. Rather than cry, try fielding a winner. We won it all 4 years into our expansion team. I am sorry your team has been struggling since Bernie Kosar, but you should blame Randy Lerner.

So people are making the argument that Suggs tried to tackle Brady low a few weeks ago and what goes around comes around. You are missing one very significant point. BRADY HAD THE BALL, SUGGS DID NOT. One was an attempted tackle the other was an attempted (and successful) injury. So even if it was a dirty hit on both parts, one was an attempt to make a tackle and the other was taking frustration out on a defenseless player who doesn’t even have the ball. Regardless, I’m guessing everyone will continue to ignore these facts and make a few more Ray Lewis stabbing comments.

There’s no such legal concept in the United States as “proven innocent.” Defendants in this country are, by law, innocent until proved guilty. Mr. Simpson was not proved innocent. He simply was not proved guilty in the eyes of the law.
Mr. Lewis was not proved innocent. He was never tried. The murder charges were dropped for insufficient evidence. He accepted a plea bargain for misdemeanor obstruction of justice.

DaBick, Brady DIDNT HAVE THE BALL thats what made it so bad. Go watch the replay. Brady throws the football, and then looks directly at Suggs as he comes at Tom’s knees. Tom sidesteps and immediately turns to the refs pointing at Suggs on the ground along with other players, and then the flags come out. I don’t know if Suggs is a ‘dirty player’ or not, but that sure as hell was going to be a dirty play.
As to Ray of Sunshine, do innocent men agree to a multi-million dollar plea agreement to the victims families in court, or do they go all Roethlisberger and counter sue the lying scumbags? And you have no idea how hard that was to write about Mr.Windshield in a positive light.

Oh man, it’s even better than *that*! Not only do I not have a masters degree or any other kind of degree- I dropped out of high school in… are you ready? …9th grade! In fact, it was the second time I was in 9th grade!
So what did I get for dropping out? While you were getting up at 6am and studying your ass off in college (presumably), I was touring the US and Europe in a band, getting laid, and having a blast. Then I eventually got married and now live in a beautiful house (not too far from Ugotflaccoed’s alma mater, as a matter of fact) and have a great job and great salary for a huge communications company. In fact, if you watch any TV at all, I guarantee you’ve seen my work.
Isn’t that practically a crime? Some guys (like you, I imagine) work their ass off at a shitty job while someone like me quits high school, gets lucky, and winds up with a job that everyone else went to school for. Awesome. Just goes to prove that, if you’re intelligent and were raised by parents who weren’t dumbasses, it is possible to get somewhere without a college degree (or even a HS diploma, apparently.) :)

Ray Lewis calling out anybody for a cheap shot is laughable. Quinn was fined for one reason and one reason only….you know what it is too.

  60. zibit says: Nov 18, 2009 3:36 PM

First off if Suggs tries to hit brady in the knee..which by the way was not the case..He wasn’t even fined! whereas Haloti was fined for his love tap on Brady’s helmet..Brady can SEE him coming. QBs can see the rush and move. Whereas Quinn’s hit was a blindside hit, which is one thing, but a blindside cut, is the cheapest of all shots. Also, its suggs job to hit guys. It’s Quinn’s job to move the ball downfield, he was just upset he couldn’t do that and took out his frustrations.
Also, I have watched every single ravens game for the last 5 or so years and the Brady hit is the only remotely questionable one on Suggs. He’s one of the cleanest defenders there is to be honest and I wouldnt say that about all Ravens.

  61. zibit says: Nov 18, 2009 3:38 PM

The biggest point to take away from all this is that Brady Quinn is not smart enough to play QB in the NFL. How can he not realize guys will retaliate against him???

Once again the commissioner Mr. Good(fornothing)all, shows that certain people can get away with dirty cheap shots and people trying to make a tackle are not allowed to make a tackle. Remember the cheap shot-dirty lead helmet block that Hines (AKA the ddirtiest player in football) Ward threw on Keith Rivers last year. Keith was out for the year with a broken jaw. No fine for MR> DIRTY.

Who cares if the ravens are mad. At least Quinn got fined. Tell them to see week 1 mcnabb broken rib AFTER play was over.

Umm, Panthers got fined for that hit, even though that was MOMENTUM carrying them into a GOAL LINE play. Not cheap shot or low blow. Too bad all the Eagles are so feeble and frail and can’t seem to play football lately.

    @Chainguy …
Once again some know-it-all is posting without knowing what he’s talking about. The hit Ward put on Rivers was legal at the time he made it. Now it’s not. You don’t fine players for making a legal hit. It was a good lesson for Rivers. Next time he’ll watch where he’s going. Welcome to the NFL, Keith.
Oh, about that dirtiest player designation: That was a vote from 34 players … out of around 1700. I wouldn’t take it too seriously. But given that he’s an itty-bitty wideout in a sea of Big Bad defensive players, we’re right proud of him all the same.

It was suggs or lewis who twisted tavaris jacksons foot, out-of-bounds, in a pre-season game last year causing him to pre-season games.
Lewis should keep his mouth shut and the D.A. who investigated the phantom stabbing should re-open the case. They can do so much more with dna these days.

Well, I enjoyed it and I hope it’s true! I have the degree, but some of the smartest men I’ve ever known have stories similar to yours. And some of the biggest idiots I’ve known have degrees. Brains may help you get into college but college doesn’t manufacture brains.

I stand by the first post. Just so you know, I’m not a Steelers fan, I’m a Redskins fan. I live in Maryland and watch the Ravens all the time as my team seems to depress more often than not right now.
    @ugotflaccoed
Wow, glad you got that Masters. Apparently you know something about something enough to get the degree, but as we all could read on this board – that something is not football, or the legal system.
Suggs is dirty, period. Watch the tape, look at the film. It’s there, plain and simple.
Oh, and my coworker thinks he looks like Mushmouth from Fat Albert.
