Dwan Edwards fined $5,000 for Cribbs hit

Earlier this week, the league fined Browns quarterback Brady Quinn $10,000 for diving at the knees of Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs while presumably pursuing defensive back Chris Carr, who had possession of the ball after intercepting a Quinn pass.

Later in the game, Ravens defensive end Dwan Edwards popped Cleveland wideout Josh Cribbs on an ill-fated Stanford-band play that concluded the night.  The hit sent Cribbs to the hospital, via ambulance.

While the Quinn hit was obviously dirty, Edwards' didn't look so bad.  But apparently the forearm to the facemask was enough to trigger a fine.  Edwards has been fined $5,000 for the hit.

Cribbs, who missed practice Wednesday but returned to action Thursday, has said that he didn't believe that hit was intentional.

"It all happened so quick,'' Cribbs said.  "He thought I was going to try to come and block him. It wasn't a cheap shot.''

Wait, let me see if I understand this. The guy put his forearm to the face of another player and that gets "didnt look so bad"? Seriously? Cribbs only took like 5 steps after he got rid of the ball before edwards jacked him in the face. Damn floor-boy pull your head out of your ass.

I still can't believe T. Suggs got b**tch slapped by Brady Quinn like that. Suggs is a giant vagina.

While the Quinn hit was obviously dirty

I hope Quinn sues your a-- off. I don't think it was obviously dirty at all. he explained it and I'm sure he'll see this. I'm sure you looked at the replay. Quinn is trying to roll tackle and already has his head down and looking down in a weak attempt at a tackle as Suggs moves over to his right in front of carr. Ill advised is ok but dirty? no. if the NFL charges $10,000 for an obviously dirty hit, what do you call a $25,000 Ray Lewis hit?

In all honesty the Cribbs hit looks like it could have been avoided easier than the Suggs hit. Dwan Edwards was running down a field with less players around and at a much slower game pace than when the INT happened. It almost looks as if he 2nd guesses making the hit, then realizes its a free hit......too bad his bad aim sent his forarm straight to Cribbs neck rather than his body.

Typical Florio bullshit. Biased SOB trailer trash. Attack Quinn--it's obviously dirty (actually, it was more stupid than dirty) for one thing and defend a late hit on Cribbs as no big deal. Wow. What's next, trailer trash Mike? Another stupid Staph joke? Florio, you're proof that crap, not cream, rises to the top.

No way this should have been fined. The Commish is getting WAY too ticky tacky in his efforts to turn the NFL into The Magic Kingdom. This is BS. Will you just let the boys play and stop all this corporate sanitation agenda crap. I get pissed at this stuff because it's a lawyers mindset and constantly being obsessed with political correctness and rump protecting with the cost being a continuous erosion and denigration of the product.

Commish......we LOVE the violence. Please don't sanitize the NFL and turn it into Disney World.

I think this mostly proves that, 1) Cribbs is a class act; not willing to cry out against anyone when he was the victim. And 2) Florio is a jacka**. So biased its nauseating. Get over yourself, people come for the news, not your quirky BS commentary and opinion.

Actually, a giant vagina would be Troy "mega-gay shampoo commercial" Polamalu. And Brady Quinn is my future lawn care specialist. Very near future.

SO why was Quinn blocking someone below the knees that was 10 yards from the ball?

Shouldn't he have been tryig to tackle the dude that intercepted his terrible pass?

"While the Quinn hit was obviously dirty"...is this considered slander? You're only speculating and should not use a word such as "obviously" in this context...it may have been dumb but how many times has Quinn or any other NFL QB made a "great defensive" play?...if Ray "THE BLADE" Lewis had done that he would have said it was a great play. Stop whining...IT'S FOOTBALL.

It doesn't matter what anyone says, just put dresses on all of the players and let's player flag fooseball! If you get close to a player it's a fine and if you hit a player it's a double fine! Roger "F*$king" Gooddell and his merrymen are just screwing up the NFL(not for long)!

    Florio portrayed reality as:

"While the Quinn hit was obviously dirty, Edwards' didn't look so bad."

    Wow.

And by that, I just mean, WOW.

First off, no fan of either team, have no bias either way - just played and coached years of football, and think that "portrayal" is either unwittingly ridiculous and the utterings of the clueless -or- ridiculous by design and intended to inflame the knowledgeable fan. Either way, it's an absurd comment.

Quinn was trying to make a play very near the ball in a game that had yet to be decided. What was Quinn supposed to do - patiently wait for the Ravens entourage to organize and escort Carr into the end zone? Damn, comments like this come from people who've never fastened a chinstrap, have no idea how fast the game is played (especially how it must be at the NFL level) .... but amazingly, smugly presume they know "whut's up" when their biggest athletic feat is playing with the Wii and their niece.

As for Edwards, you're saying his hit didn't look so bad???????????? WTF? Edwards outweighs Cribs by 3 figures plus and blind-sided the little man far away from the play in a game that was inarguably over.

One guy is trying to make a play in a live game - and another maliciously decided to blind-side a little guy in a dead game.

It's just a bit difficult for me to fathom how ludicrous this comment was from a person whose opinion is solicited by NFL Films: "While the Quinn hit was obviously dirty, Edwards' didn't look so bad."

Now I know why Gino Torretta types win Heismans over the Marshall Faulks of the world ---> the people empowered to make such decisions are completely clued out fools, but they're smug, opiniated and make such determinations.

    Unreal. Un-effing-real.
