Earlier today, we posted the insights of a scout who reviewed tape of the Week Two game between the Jets and Patriots. Contrary to the assertion by New York cornerback Darrelle Revis that he handled New England receiver Randy Moss on his own, our source concluded that Revis had help throughout the game, and that Moss was subject to full-blown double coverage on seven of 77 offensive plays.
On Thursday, Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine confirmed that Moss wasn't subject to true single coverage.
"I don't have numbers," Pettine said, per Dave Hutchinson of the Newark Star-Ledger. "We mixed our coverages up a lot. You have to do
that against New England. You can't give them one look. I can say this,
we weren't in a lot of true cover zero [man-on-man] with no help. Nobody in the league is. Most teams in the league, I would be shocked
if they averaged more than four or five snaps a game of straight man
coverage with no help.''
So there you have it. Revis had help. Given the manner in which Moss has played of late, Revis is gonna need plenty of it when the two teams get together on Sunday.

40 years and counting.
You're kind of a dick, Florio.
Who cares!
Well, thank God the crack investigative journalists at PFT have gotten to the bottom of this huge story. Tracking this breaking story throughout the day gave me a feeling of exhilaration not unlike those following Woodward and Bernstein during the Watergate investigation must have felt. From the dramatic claims from Revis, to the heroic efforts of PFT to have someone else review every play from the game, to the Jets DC cracking under the immense pressure and confessing that Revis did, in fact, have help against Moss, I am proud to have born witness to this ground breaking investigation.
*eyes rolling*
Of course Revis had help. I doubt Moss has faced true man to man with zero help 100 times in his career.
Chirping like he is will see Stetson Target Randy 15-20 times and burn his ass all day long.
Florio, you are truly, truly an idiot.
Myself and other commenters already went over this on the other post, and the Jets coach just said it again: "we weren't in a lot of true cover zero...Nobody in the league is."
"So there you have it. Revis had help."....Yeah, if you mean that his team's defensive roster actually includes a pair of safeties who are then inserted into the defensive scheme to do what safeties do, then yeah, he had help. Guess what? He also had defensive ends on his team who were constantly trying to pressure and sack the QB, so I guess he had help there too.
Give it up, Florio. Your lack of knowledge of the game is appalling at worst, amusing at best. You really need to let Revis-gate just go away. Nobody cares.
Title should be "Jets DC confirms Revis full of sh*t"
WHO CARES???
NFL is about right now...Not what happened weeks ago.
Besides the NFL is a team game and as long as your team wins who cares what type of defensive coverage you us as long as it works!
Nobody has ever manned up on Moss, outside of a blown coverage.
"...our source concluded that Revis had help throughout the game, and that Moss was subject to full-blown double coverage on seven of 77 offensive plays."
WOW... full blown double coverage on 7 out of 77 plays! Great job uncovering that scoop genius!
Seems to me like Revis was covering Moss 1 on 1 for pretty much the entire game!
Quick question Scoop... what is the point of this stupid little blog anyway? The quality of your coverage has really begun to suffer under the weight of your own giant inflated ego. This used to be a source for quality football news; now, it's just a football version of TMZ...
You've become a terrible site host Florio...
Seriously, this has to be the lamest story ever on PFT and thats saying something.
Notorious, truly, you're the one who doesn't get it, not Florio. Revis said he was on an island against Moss with no help whatsoever. You're picking at straws, trying to find some excuse to make the Jets look better than they really are.
The scout from the previous article also mentioned that they weren't just playing with deep safeties, but also rolling them to Moss's side.
Come on, how dense are you? No corner in the league can cover Randy Moss, or Andre Johnson, or Jerry Rice, or any other great receiver by himself for an entire game, and that's exactly what Revis claimed he did.
Cover 1, Cover 2, yes everyone runs those plays, but no, you don't roll those 1 or 2 safeties over to a specific side unless you have a reason, and the reason here is Randy Moss.
I hope the Jets do run cover-0 the whole game. Let's see how "great" Revis looks against someone who is truly great.
Who cares?
@ Facts Domino...
Utilizing the info that Scoop Florio's "own source" has produced, I would guess that you're probably mistaken, as Revis appears to have covered Moss 1 on 1 roughly 70 times in their 1st match up this year.
Are the pats any better then last yr? Seems brady has been exposed as a system qb since the team was just as good at 11-5 with cassel at the helm!
the pats will be 11-5 at best sooooo....
would love to see brady running a crap team like the chiefs, lets face it the guy wound up in the perfect place or he mite be washing dishes at the local diner today!
Not trying to compare the Jets & Patriots here, as we all know who wins out...
However, for the sake of this argument, here’s a look at the stats so far for Moss against the Jets.
9/20/09 — 4REC – 24 Yds 9Lng 0TD
11/13/08 — 3REC – 26 Yds 16Lng 1TD
9/14/08 — 2REC – 22 Yds 14Lng 0TD
12/16/07 — 5REC- 79 Yds 46Lng 0TD
09/09/07 — 9REC – 183 Yds 51Lng 1TD
In my estimation, Randy Moss has had only one successful game against the Jets since he and Revis arrived, and it was Revis’ first game. Ironically, the only TD since the start of the 2008 season came when the freshly activated Ty Law was in coverage.
Realistically, Brady & Moss are much more in sync now, than Week 2... however, Wes Welker is the one that really scares me and is the threat the Jets need to worry about on Sunday.
You want the Moss-Revis matchup in a nutshell? Rewatch Revis' pick in the 1st NE game. Moss leaps up thinking he has an easy catch only to have Revis rip the ball out of his hands and then Moss giving up and making no attempt to knock the ball out . That play summarizes both players' personalities perfectly. (yay for alliteration)
The Jets may as well line up in a 3-1-7 because New England is going to air it out this weekend.
@tacious
I certainly didn't take that assessment from Flubio's poorly written piece.
The DC's quote supports that.
" You can't give them one look. I can say this, we weren't in a lot of true cover zero [man-on-man] with no help. Nobody in the league is. Most teams in the league, I would be shocked if they averaged more than four or five snaps a game of straight man coverage with no help.''
They certainly weren't in cover zero for the 70 of 77 snaps he wasn't doubled.

That is a little old, can't you come up with something better than that, oops you must be a Pats fan sorry...
thanks, Florio. in an effort to defend the honor of your embarrassingly subjective sources you have opened the gates to all the know-nothing massholes that the rest of the country wishes would just stick to the goddam sons of sam horn message boards. and, seriously, no one wants that functional-retard bullshit. Darrelle Revis is the best cover corner this side of a bay-area team that is plagued by absurdity and an owner whose kids should've long ago thrown him into a nursing home. I implore, Mr. Florio of former class and stature, to watch Mr. Revis play a few games and see for yourself how incredible he is. How he plays at a superb level play-in, play-out. Even on a lousy team that's still a few players away from realizing their potential. And try not to have your inner piss-and-moaner ruin the experience by crying about Rex Ryan while you do it. I hope I am not going too far in assuming you can bring yourself to that level....
"Are the pats any better then last yr? Seems brady has been exposed as a system qb since the team was just as good at 11-5 with cassel at the helm!"
Nobody with a brain in there head thinks Tom Brady is a "system quarterback", or that the team was just as good with Cassel.
oh come on. i'm an eagles fan, but this is just BS. that's not necessarily them saying "hmm, he's playing randy moss, so the safeties are gonna defend deep." teams hardly ever play cover zero, they play at least cover one or cover two shells most of the game. every corner gets some kind of help. the telling stat is that they played double coverage on only 7 of 77 plays. so yes, he was basically in single man coverage much of the game on randy, and mostly shut him down.

are you stupid?
How is it that he is ranked in the top 3
in most if not all QB stats but he is
a system QB and all the others are not?
Yes you sound like a HATER
and you don't know anything
about football.
"System QB" is one of the most over used
terms in football.
Joe Montana played in the west coast SYSTEM!
Every qb plays in a SYSTEM!
Get a clue......
Ralphie,
11-5 isn't as good as 16-0, last year without Brady was the 2nd time since 2001 that the Pats missed the playoffs... likely not a coincidence.
Oh, and you wanna see Brady play for a 'bad team'? How about the 2001 Pats who finished just 5-11 the year before Brady took over and won the Super Bowl.
The only issue here...is the fact that Revis ran around for 6 weeks bragging how he shut down Moss by himself.....only to have to it proven that he was full of crap. The fact still is...he did play an important part in shutting Moss down that day..........no one disputes that....but he had help. Revis' ego and mouth got the better of him........ Ego's are part of the game too............nothing wrong with that either.
I think the whole point of the story is that Moss had claimed he was not one on one all day with Revis....and Revis claimed he had no help.......so SOMEONE was lying......and it turns out it was Revis.
So now he can either shut up...or go out and do it again Sunday. Simple as that........not a big story...but it's nice to see a guy who is full of shit...get his comeupance.

That would be cool - then you and Tom Brady would have the same job! You might even work together. You could share secrets and become the ultimate system dishwashers.
I desperately hope that you are right and that Tom Brady *IS* a system QB. If he is I'm really looking forward to watching BB plug some random QB into his scheme and the Patriots remaining competitve long after Brady is gone.
Dems may be old but it is TRUE.
Yes, Pats fan and proud of it. Every season since 2001 the Pats are playing until the last game of the season for a playoff birth.
Outside of the Colts no other team has accomplished that.
Before the stupid comments, remember since 2001.
nflqb?? you win award for the dumbest comment! Screen name probably reflects your team doesn't have one.
Florio went to West Virginia. Therefore, he hates Pitt.
Darelle Revis went to Pitt. Therefore Florio hates Darelle Revis.
Florio has too much time on his hands. Therefore he hates Darelle Revis.
This site may have jumped the shark today.
This has been the stupidest non-debate in history. Did a corner have help over the top vs Randy Moss? Unless they were playing a 3-6 defense... of course they were.
@ Toothpick
Randy Moss is from WV too
You know its a slow cycle when stories are written about who gets doubled, regardless of who it is. Disgraceful waste of time and space.
OK, I'm a HUGE Patriots & Moss fan but this whole story about who covered who & how much help he got is getting OLD!!!!
PLEASE, NO MORE!!!!!!!!
Anyone still saying "hater" should be banned from posting.
I'm deeply offended.
Only Revis didn't know he had help. Everyone else understands how coverages work in the NFL. Guess he won't be going back to college after football to get his doctorate in nuclear physics.

Seems a lot of people responded to your stupidity. I decided I would as well. First, every QB is part of a system. And, yes, the Patriots run the best organization in the NFL (I wish my Lions could get a clue and learn how to do what they do) and they have the best coaching. It's how a team stays competitive over long periods and multiple changes that would be a killer for other teams. But, stat wise, Brady has better stats than almost every single QB ever to play the game at this point of his career. He took a bad team from the end of the 90's and made them good. Few people claim that Favre wasn't good but his team was. Brady made WR's that nobody knew the names of into Superbowl champions. Even Welker, a name so touted about now, was simply a throw away from the Dolphins and Moss, well people said his career was over.
So please learn what you're talking about.
And, other than the Saints, who is left to even give the Patriots a challenge on their way to winning the division? 11-5 is the worst possible record they end up having. My guess is 12-4 and very possibly 13-3 after running the table to the playoffs.
I think in February, evrybody is going to have to eat some words about how good Brady actually is. It is very likely that you see him starting to run out of fingers for all the rings he has.
