Week Eleven Picks are loaded

Thursday football requires us to get our house in order even more quickly than usual for the coming weekend.

For starters, here are our picks for the Week Eleven games.

Last week, we rebounded with a 10-5 showing.  Yours truly nailed seven of eight, and I might have had another perfect slate if Jay Cutler hadn’t found a wide open member of the 49ers defense on Cutler’s last throw of last Thursday night’s game.  (We won’t specifically mention Rosenthal’s won-loss record for the week, because I feel sorry for him I respect him too much.)

This Thursday night, Rosenthal likes the Dolphins over the Panthers, even without Ronnie Brown.

And now perhaps we know why Rosenthal was 3-4 had a hard time last week.

I have no respect for any picks that aren’t against the spread.

Reading through the Ravens and Colts run down I was amused. How quickly we liberate Oher as an elite tackle after a movie is made about him with Sandra Bullock. Not saying he’s a bad tackle, but even being from Baltimore I’m not going to say he isn’t going to need help all day from a tight end. If that tight end is LJ Smith too, expect Flacco to be on the ground.
Look at what Corey Williams, Kenyon Coleman, and Shaun Rogers did to Flacco on Monday night. We (being a Browns fan) hurried him throughout the game and even sacked him 4 times.

The Eag’s will lose their 3rd in a row ? That probably seals their fate and extinguishes any hopes of getting to and winning The Super Bowl-something the Eag’s have never done. The Eag’s are 0-fer when it comes to Super Bowls.

Majority of Vegas casinos have weekly pick the winner contests for real nice prizes – free entry.
Almost all of pick-em parlay cards for $5 and you get somewhere around Florio’s monthly salary if you get them all right.
After trying both there is not too much difference.
Straight picks are closer to 70-80% and spread is 50-55%.

I agree that Oher has been annointed a premier tackle way too soon. I have watched him pretty closely and I have no idea why people are gushing over him. He looks pretty good for a rookie, but he is below average as an NFL starter at the moment.

    Hey John -
Given your opinion does that mean the Cardinals should be the Superbowl champs because they covered the spread?
    I love bacon.

    Pick: Bears 17, Eagles 10
I’d pick the Bears by two TD’s.
Eagurls got hit by the karma truck and it gave Westbrook 2 concussions and decimated their secondary. Shut down big plays and they can’t do anything.

Paul Allen can’t help the Seachickens. This isn’t Rudy Florio 42-10 Vikings

I’m an Eagles fan, and while they may lose they sure as hell will score more than 10 points, that’s a guarantee.
Florio and Rosenthal fail, be men and pick against the spread it’s the only way to make picks.
I can’t take picks seriously if they aren’t against the spread.

    HOLY CRAP !
    Vikes win.
    Bears win.
    Lions win.
    Pukers win.
    My middle name is North.
    Gotta love it !

Probably said the same thing before 13-9.

“(We won’t specifically mention Rosenthal’s won-loss record for the week, because I feel sorry for him I respect him too much.)”
And that is the reason Rosenthal does not continually point out how much of an idiot Florio looks for picking the Skins to go to the Super Bowl. Any creditability Mike has as a prognosticator is immediately lost.

  15. ZombieRevolution says: Nov 19, 2009 11:15 AM

Does it say anywhere on the PFT picks whether it is Florio or Greg that makes each prediction and writes up the analysis? Seems like little actual proof that Florio is getting anything right.

  16. Deb says: Nov 19, 2009 11:36 AM

    @ZombieRevolution …
A few weeks ago, they did specify which guy was picking each game. Now they don’t. Hmmm …. LOL
The really sad thing about this week’s lineup is that we should all be able to pick these games and get 99 percent of them right unless there’s some huge upset. The only really iffy games are Indy/Baltimore and I’d expect Indy to win, and Tenn/Houston. I’m going with Houston at home, but it could go either way. And of course, we can’t predict Browns/Lions–but who cares?

well the dolphins *won* last week, so if picking the dolphins are a trend for you, you would have done alright. ;)
i don’t have the confidence against the panthers that i did against the bucs, especially without ronnie brown, but fingers crossed i guess. PFT’s confidence is good enough for me!

  18. Gregg Rosenthal says: Nov 19, 2009 12:40 PM

I’d rather pick against the spread too. Wasn’t an option. Maybe I can convince the powers that be (not Florio in this case) for next season.
For those wondering who picks what … I pick AFC road teams, he picks NFC in 95% of the games.

  19. PDXNinerfan says: Nov 19, 2009 12:51 PM

I enjoy reading your picks, but cannot tolerate the NBC format of clicking through the games. For anyone else who hates this, look it up on the mobile site where it’s all laid out on one page.

  20. cleanface says: Nov 19, 2009 12:54 PM

Just pick the games and give a score….that will allow you to effectively pick the spreads.

  21. OnZlaut says: Nov 19, 2009 12:54 PM

Are you kidding me with that MNF pick?
Did you consider that during the Titans winless streak the were losing in large part because they couldn’t defend against the pass?
Did you consider that during their current 3 game win streak, the Titans haven’t played one team that could pass the ball effectively?
Did you consinder that for the last 6 weeks, the Texans have allowed less rushing yards per game than ANY OTHER TEAM IN THE NFL?
    Go flip some more coins…

  22. Vox's Mommy says: Nov 19, 2009 1:15 PM

Florio….PLEASE tell me how running is overrated? The Running games are the only things keeping Carolina and Miami from a 2-3 win season. It’s not the running game’s fault neither of them play defense. When you DO play defense, the running game is your best friend. Not the passing game. I can’t believe I just read that on your Panthers vs. Dolphins pick! How stupid Mike! I normally don’t have a problem with most things you write, but that was just dumb! And I could care less about Miami or Carolina so I’m not defending either one of them.

  23. meegwell says: Nov 19, 2009 1:36 PM

I would expect picks against a spread here. Just goes to show how this is less for the sports fan and more for the gossip queens…that same that follow TMZ. Make picks against a spread and stop being sophomorical.

  24. ChicagoJo says: Nov 19, 2009 1:42 PM

Rosenthal, you nailed it with the defenses of MIA and CAR. Since the Panthers can’t stop the run, they will be run all over and lose the time of possession. Since the Fins are weak through the air, Carolina will turn to Delhomme to keep them in the game. And he sucks when the games on his shoulders (at least, that’s when it’s obvious to us.) Stewart and Williams are both nursing injuries, if they fall behind and air it out look for a lot of picks to seal the deal for Miami. Not at all a sure thing, but a smart pick.
    Florio, you’re dumb.

  25. davidmp2 says: Nov 19, 2009 3:28 PM

“The Browns took Cincinnati to overtime early in this year in Cleveland, so there is some precedent for a road letdown. The difference now is that the Bengals’ defense has improved throughout and now ranks among the league’s best, especially against the pass.”
It’s amazing to me how a guy who runs a football sight knows so little about football. Cincinnati’s defense is ranked 21st against the pass and 2nd against the run. Hmmm….
Stick with the witty repartee and leave the football for people that know the game.
