Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has always loved Felix Jones.
Felix was a star running back at Arkansas, Jerry’s alma mater, and Jerry chose Felix with the Cowboys’ first-round pick in last year’s NFL draft. In two NFL seasons, Felix has shown flashes of the blazing speed that Jerry fell in love with, but he has been hampered by injuries and hasn’t become an integral part of the Cowboys’ attack.
Jerry wants that to change.
“I certainly understand balance,” Jerry told the Dallas Morning News. “But I’d sure like to see him with the ball more.”
So far this season Felix has 66 touches: 44 carries for 304 yards, four catches for 56 yards and 18 kickoff returns for 372 yards.
Felix suffered a sprained knee this season, but Jerry says he’s healthy now and that the coaches agree with him that the Cowboys’ offense needs to make him a bigger part of the game plan, especially in situations when Felix will get the ball in space with room to take advantage of his speed.
“We need to get him in situations outside, or where he has a little space, and we’ll see some of that,” Jones said. “It’s not a frustrating thing. It’s a tactical thing.”
