Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman, sued this week by Tila Tequila Nguyen for battery, assault, and false imprisonment, has spoken publicly regarding the lawsuit.
The case arises from an alleged incident that occurred in early September at Merriman's home. Though Merriman was arrested, prosecutors decided not to pursue charges.
"The DA's office, you know, said I didn't do anything wrong," Merriman said, according to 10News.com.
But that's not what the DA concluded. The question wasn't whether Merriman did anything wrong -- the question was whether it could be proven in court that Merriman had done something illegal.
Indeed, the DA said that charges weren't filed because there was "insufficient evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that any crime was committed."
Meanwhile, Nguyen now claims that recent erratic behavior -- including a recent naked UStream broadcast -- was triggered by whatever it is that Merriman allegedly did to her.

After reading the article I think I feel dumber that I did pre-reading. She says that people called her a liar after she came out saying that Merriman beat her because Rihanna or whoever didn't say anything after she got beat. I do not know who Rihanna is but me not believing this moron had nothing to do with her. I did not believe Tila (make up your own creative last name here) because she sounded like a vindictive woman who was just grabbing for an extra 15 minutes of undeserved fame. Look, I am a Steelers fan and have absolutely no regard for Merriman one way or another but this lady needs to disappear fast. She apparently had the trashiest TV show since "The Swan" (if wikipedia serves me correctly) and I would not put it past her to try to win this suit by any means possible, be it bribes, faking evidence, or even lying on the stand. While I could be wrong, and she could be telling the truth this one time, it seems like if you lie 99 times you should not believed with no foolproof evidence the 100th.

florio's law background is very insightful/enjoyable when legal issues arise in these stories. pointing out the diff btwn absolving some1 of guilt and not bringing charges due to lack of confidence in the ability to get a conviction is something other websites prob wont/cant do.

Merriman needs to remember that a jury found O.J. "not guilty" but that sure as hell didn't make him "innocent". Wait until a civil jury gets ahold of Mr. 'Roids. He'll think "the D.A. said I didn't do anything wrong"!
