PFTV looks at the 7-2 Bengals

We’ve believed that the Bengals would be competitive this year since early in the offseason.

Then again, we also liked the Redskins’ chances.

Now that the Bengals are 7-2 and entering the cupcake portion of their schedule, let’s look at the situation, PFTV style.

Brocato, tee it up.

Props for bringing up the Redskins. Most places make 10 predictions and then remind us of only the ones they get right.

Even though there wasn’t a single useful or profound word uttered by either of you, I’m just beyond pleased that PFTV saw fit to do a Bengals spot.

So igorant to say they need to beat them by 20 pts each game. This is the NFL, not the Big East Florio.
As long as they get 3 solid Ws they are good to go.
They don’t care about putting the rest of the league “on notice”. It doesn’t matter one iota what other teams think or you think when they lineup in January in a playoff game.
And on that day it will come down to matchups, playcalling, and players either making plays or making mistakes ie execution.
Whether they beat Detroit or Cleveland by 20 or 10 or 7 is meaningless, as long as they get the W and a possible bye that’s what matters.

Another difference is no player on the Bengals thought it was a good idea to wipe their shoes on the Terrible Towel.
Even if you don’t believe in the curse, it shows a team that is more mature and focused on the business at hand. Hotdogging it for the cameras after the fact isn’t part of their agenda. It speaks well for the Bengals, and I hope the Steelers and Bengals meet in the Championship game in Cinci where the Steelers can claim their spot as Champs.
    Anyway, that’s my plan.

I agree with rydendonkeys on this one… It’s not college football and the BCS, but am glad you focused on my Bengals nonetheless.
And I’m still loving the set that you stole from 1992. Who has tube TV’s anymore??? LMAO

What were the Bengals this week in the BCS?

I’m going to go buy a Toyota!
    What was the story again?

Hey Florio……………First off, I am absolutely pleased that your unit did a piece on the Cincinnati Bengals. While I give you credit for giving the Bengals hopes in the preseason, get off of the “You have to beat these next three teams by large scoring margins”. THAT IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS STATEMENT YOU CONTINUE TO MAKE ON A REGULAR BASIS! I understand the statement that we have to beat these next three teams straight up. No win margins taken into considerations. How about all those years the Pittsburgh Stoolers win in the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter by fluke, or how about the Colts barely getting by the 49ets and the Texans, or the Saints sneaking by the Rams? We don’t hear segments about how those teams may be falling……….we hear segments about how “real” teams find a way to win. Bottom line, this is the NFL. Your statements about win margin would be in line at CFT, not PFT.
    WHODEY!

w/r/t towel waving – I’m also glad the Bengals didn’t wave any of those stupid towels after beating the Steelers (or after every three-yard gain, or when the opposing WR drops a pass, or when the opposing kicker forces a touchback, or…)
But I’m more happy that the Bengals didn’t win by taking out the knee of the opposing team’s All Pro QB at the beginning of the game…

If the Bengals control the entire 4 quarters these next 3 games, that’ll be fine with me.
What wasn’t mentioned and is very interesting is the two playoff bound teams the Bengals have left on their schedule–Vikings and Chargers–both of which are on the road.

    Newer,
It’s nice to agree with a fan of a competing team! I also think towel waiving should be left to the fans, particularly for the small, victories of the type you cite.
I am also glad when no players are injured. Unfortunately, in the past game between the Steelers and Bengals, there was an All Pro who did sustain a knee injury (or maybe not if you listen to him.) I would not go so far as to say it was the reason for losing.

    @Newerguy,
    Classic, and hilarious!!
Don’t forget, waving the terrible towel because we ran on the field, participated in the coin flip, went into the locker room at halftime, changed ends at the quarter, calleda timeout, the other team jumped offsides, Big Ben ate another Ho Ho on the sideline………………..

I live in Cincinnati and it always amazes me how Bengals fans can’t enjoy a little success because they spend too much time fuming over not getting the national respect they feel they deserve.
Who cares what everyone else thinks? Enjoy the ride. Respect is earned by repeated success over the years. Hopefully the Bengals are finally on this road.
Remember, before the season, all of the local sports anchors had this team going anywhere from 6-10 to 8-8.

Seriously, Brocato – “We saw in 2005 a Bengals team win the division and then get beat by the Pittsburgh Steelers, so what’s different about this team?”
This might be the most ignorant question I’ve ever witnessed.
Aside from the fact only 5 of the 22 starters were even on the 2005 team, the fact that Carson Palmer was carted off the field after two offensive plays doesn’t resonate?
Coupled with Florio’s laughable comments on NBC’s picks, again go to show this site for what it is. PFT is to the NFL what TMZ is to Hollywood.
Keep up the good work fellas!

How do we get the reputation of playing to our opponents?
This year the only instance of that is the Browns game which, by the way, is one of the biggest rivalries in the State of Ohio. It is always a good game, no matter the records, once a year if not both times. Other than that what? The Bears? NO. Broncos? NO Green Bay? NO Steelers? NO Ravens? NO Houston? NO. Houston is good and you cant win them all. I wouldnt be surprised if Houston beats Indy the next time they play. I think the reputation is undeserved. IMHO

  16. blester01 says: Nov 21, 2009 4:20 PM

The difference between the 2005 team and this team is that we have a defense.
Even if we had beat the Steelers in the wild card game, fact is the Colts would have slaughtered us in the divisional game since we did not have a pass rush (J. Smith) or tough secondary (Kevin Kaesvanhorn did not scare anyone).
