Benson makes trip to Oakland

Cedric Benson still looks like a long shot to play Sunday, but he did travel with the Bengals to Oakland this weekend.

Both the Cincinnati Enquirer and the team’s website mention that the team left linebackers coach Jeff FitzGerald behind due to pneumonia, but Reedy confirmed to us that Benson made the trip.  If Benson had stayed home, he would have been downgraded from doubtful to out.

Still, Joe Reedy writes that “unofficially, it is all but certain” that Benson will not play.

That means Bernard Scott, Brian Leonard, and Larry Johnson will likely split the workload.

It’s the smart move. Let him rest and heal. The other RB’s can carry the load for a week. The Bengals might want to try to exploit all that man coverage in Oakland anyway, but I doubt it. OC Bratkowski loves to gameplan down to his competition and everyone knows it.

Maybe we get a look at Andre Smith?
Lenard and Scott should get the bulk of the playing time. Use LJ if we can get up big.
