A season-high three Sunday NFL games will be blacked out in the local television market, as the Jaguars, Raiders and Lions all failed to sell out their games.
The Jaguars are blacked out as usual, but the team is reminding fans that they can watch the game online at jaguars.com and NFL.com starting at midnight Sunday night.
The Raiders have their fifth straight blackout. It's the 74th time in 118 home games since moving back to Oakland from Los Angeles that the Raiders have failed to sell out.
The Browns-Lions game failed to sell out Ford Field and are blacked out in the Detroit area, as well as Toledo, Ohio.
One market where the fans will get to see the home team is St. Louis: The Rams had 4,000 unsold tickets late this week but avoided a blackout because the team purchased its own unsold tickets and distributed them to charitable organizations.
Jaguars, Raiders, Lions blacked out again

It would seem that Lions fans are getting tired out of the "rebuilding stage". I guess I don't blame them either. At least it finally seems like they are heading somewhere. I am a huge fan of Stafford and Johnson. It is a shame though I've heard that Ford Field is beautiful and so is the area around it.
Next week it's SD CHARGERS time for blackout.
Last I saw they had 8,000 tickets....
With a crappy economy and crappy records is this surprising ?
As long as the game is on in tha Nati who gives a sh!t
if jamarcus russell isnt there to laugh at i wouldnt go to the game either
I for one don't.
Who-Dey!
I live in Western Michigan, and wish they would extend the blackout to my area. The Lions and the Browns are about the worst game possible. Please give us any other game.
The only reason I care is that some seem determined to use blackouts to bolster arguments for moving teams across the Atlantic, which is ridiculous for more reasons than I care to enumerate now.
The NFL can avoid blackouts by making sure they put teams in markets that are large enough to support them. Jacksonville was never an adequate market for an NFL team and now that the area is in economic decline and the team is losing, that's obvious. And the league can also take steps to help make teams more competitive. One such step might be to require owners to relinquish day-to-day control by an agreed-upon retirement age. That, at least, might help resolve Oakland's dilemma. The Raiders didn't have trouble selling out stadiums before Al Davis's decline. As for the Lions, I don't think they've been competitive in my lifetime, so I can't guess at a solution for them.

This game has a train wreck appeal to it like watching the worst singing tryouts on American Idol. It could be worth a few laughs.

______________________________________
Deb that is crazy. Al Davis owns the team. He can do whatever he wants with it. If the NFL can force an owner to relinquish anything, then the owners really do not own anything, and the NFL is just one big monopoly, and then here comes the anti-trust lawyers.
@NFLFanForever ...
Yes, Davis owns the team. But the owners ARE the NFL. They're part of a club. And they all get together as a unit and vote on who can join the club as a new majority or minority owner. And they vote on, for instance, what kind of business interests the other club members can have--which is why the Rooneys who have control of the Steelers had to divest themselves of the family gambling interests. The owners have, by vote, always created rules for themselves. So they could, by vote, create a rule requiring that all owners step back from day-to-day operations once they reach a certain retirement age.
I'm not saying it would be easy to pass such a rule. It probably couldn't be done until Davis, Wilson, Adams, Bidwell dropped dead. But if the majority of owners were young men and the old lions were gone, they could do it. Young men look at old men and think they should be willing to move aside. They never imagine they'll one day be the old men who won't want to go.

I"ve been watching it for the past 8 years, and its getting really old really quick.
And the Vikings head the list for relocation to L.A.? As a Vikings fan, this really pi$$es me off. I know there are plenty of you who think Vikes fans are fair-weather and don't support the team, but that's bullsh!t. This is the most intensely followed team in this state, and it's not even close (and this dates pre-Favre). It's a (for lack of a better term) beloved team, with a great history (yeah, so we've lost a few, or 4, Super Bowls, what can you do?). The Cubs and Red Sox (before the sox won a couple Series recently) are star-crossed, and the Vikings are a pathetic franchise? Effing bullsh!t.
Deb, You need to do a little thing called " Research " before you spout off. The Jaguars sold out on a consistent basis UNTIL this year because Florida has been hard hit by this recession as have most of the country. Unemployment in Michigan is almost 17%. When the economy picks up rest assured that the Jaguars will once again play before sellout crowds.
The Vikings are by far the most popular team in the state.
Nobody can imagine Minnesota Winters without Viking Football.
I really think CA needs to move one of the THREE teams they already own.
Four teams in one state is ridiculous.
There are states that would kill for an NFL team outside of CA.
Who in the Hell can afford to see these teams? If they black out games in your area, QUIT BUYING THEIR CRAP then.
I'm 58 yrs old and I'm on the road for 2 wks or more at a time. I've worked all my life, family is raised, and we (my wife & I) should be looking at our "golden years" soon. Instead, I'm on the verge of bankruptcy due to an emergency hospital visit. (bleeding ulcers). Blue Cross/Blue Shield is covering less and less each year but my GD rates sure keep going up. My savings is wiped out. My wife has to work full time just to equal the "buying power" I had myself, 40 years ago. The last time I could afford to go to a game was in the late 80's/early 90's.
I say, move all of these underachieving teams to where our jobs went; Japan, Korea, and China. Maybe they can afford it. I don't need to be treated like this.

Try this site, folks. It's the best site I know of for watching games on-line.
Just scroll down the page to see all they have to offer.
I'm not sure how black-out rules apply, but it's worth a look, a great bookmark for favorites.
@Kenneth ...
Kenneth, you need do a little thing called "Reading." I stated clearly: Jacksonville was never an adequate market for an NFL team and now that the area is in economic decline and the team is losing, that's obvious.
For the dense, that means the Jags sold out until the area went into economic decline and the team started losing. Duh.
My comment about the inadequate market comes from being a native Floridian from the Central Florida area. If YOU researched, you'd find this area consistently tested Dolphins on the AFC side yet was force fed Jags games because the Jacksonville region isn't large enough to support an NFL franchise. When the Jags were launched and the Central Florida area lost the Dolphins games, there was such an unholy outcry that the NFL finally decided to compromise and began altering the teams: one Sunday Jags, the next Sunday Dolphins.
When you have to force a team on an area that tries every way possible to spit it back out, that means you have an inadequate market.
Means nothing to me either way. I've been a diehard Steelers fan since long before the Jags existed. And my team ALWAYS sells out.

Oh - oh - that is like so totally irrelevant. You should suck it up and go into debt to buy as many tickets as you can because "MY" team always sells out, right Debbie?
[/sarcasm]
"The NFL can avoid blackouts by..."
Non-starter. The NFL is *choosing* to blackout games. It's their rule, and a stupid one. Blackouts have nothing to do with fan support and everything to do with shortsighted NFL policy.
Actually, since the game is CBS(AFC), the Browns AT Lions will be on the Toledo CBS station...for better or worse....to bad it wasn't a fox game, then it would be blacked out.
Problem with the Toledo Market, the Prog. Dir. is a Viking fan and chose the seahacks v. Vike-queens
instead of one of the best rivalries....'skins v. 'boys...
Deb,
By your stupid comment, it doesn't surprise me you are a Squealers fan.
The NFL doesn't own the franchises, the owners do.....how would you like it if you owned a Quizno's and they had a stipulation in their terms that said you had to turn over control when you turned 65????Don't think there would be too many people looking to own them..
More impritantly, are you really this stupid?
Deb - and your team always sells out because Pittsburgh is such an arm pit there is nothing else to do.
@golongboyee ...
It's difficult to answer your comment because it borders on illiterate. I have no idea what "impritantly" means. The idea that you would call anyone else "stupid" is laughable.
At no point in my comment does it say that the NFL owns the franchises. You clearly can't read any better than you can write. Very sad.
Apparently you have no idea how the NFL operates, so let me try explaining this ... again. The owners make up the league. They vote on the rules governing the league. They decide who gets to own an NFL franchise. They decide what type of businesses other than NFL teams their fellow franchise owners can own. If they wanted, they could also decide at what point owners must turn over active operation of the team to other family members or surrogates. This is business reality. Many businesses require their owners to step down from their own boards at a certain retirement age. You would know this if you had any business knowledge beyond working the counter at Quiznos.
Sometimes it's better to stay silent and be thought a fool than to start pounding your keyboard and remove any doubt.
I'm sure you would know more about the arm pits of life than I would.
Deb:
Jacksonville was never an adequate market for an NFL team and now that the area is in economic decline and the team is losing, that's obvious.
6-4 doesn't equate to losing. If that's the case the Steelers are losing as well at 6-4. Everyone's on the Jags about attendance that know's nothing of the Jags history with attendance. Now all fo a sudden every knows everything. If attendance was such a problem where has YOU and the rest of the critics 1995-2008. oh probably b/c attendance was not a problem. You lose.
@Jag4Life ...
What I know for an absolute fact is that Jacksonville, like the rest of Florida, has been hit hard by the recession--thus my comment about economic decline. I wasn't saying the Jags are "losers," you dimwit. I like Del Rio, think he's a class act, and wish him and his team well.
What I also know for absolute fact is that the Jags don't have a large enough television market in the greater Jacksonville area to sustain an NFL team. So they had to drag Central Florida into your North Florida mix even though Central Florida screamed bloody murder that it wanted the Dolphins as its AFC preferred team. Finally the NFL caved to popular demand and started alternating Jags and Dolphins games in this viewing market rather than making the Jags the only game in town as they did for the first couple of years of the Jags existence. That is all fact and you are welcome to check it out if you can divorce yourself from your fandom long enough to do it.
I also know there's some reason the Jags are constantly being mentioned as a possible team for LA. The NFL doesn't move teams that are wildly successful where they are. For the record, however, I don't believe in moving teams and think it would be a shame for the Jags to move. It's a hateful thing to do to local fans. But whatever happens I don't lose a bloody thing because I have no dog in this fight. I'm not a critic of the Jags, I'm a critic of the NFL using blackouts in this economy to justify moving teams and expanding overseas.
@Jag4Life ...
Incidentally, you're right that I shouldn't have classified a 6-4 record as "losing." They fell apart last year and started this year the same way, and I had that stuck in my head. But a blackout for a team with a winning record lends more credence, not less, to the idea that the local market can't support the team. I hope it gets worked out. More important, I hope Florida's economy improves. But the NFL would be wiser to put teams in better markets in the first place than to put them in questionable markets, then rip them away from the loyal area fans when things don't work out.
Deb:
First, since I never disrespected you and called you a "dimwit" or "dumbass" or anything for that matter I can take you throwing that out if that's what makes you feel better.
Second, I'm not an expert on football just like no one here is, but I've forgotten more football than you and most of the people on here. I'm not just a Jag fan, I'm a football fan. There is enough tv market in Jax but Jax had to copmete with Tampa and Miami so where do you think the NFL is going to pull another market. Central Florida. Yes the economy is tough is Jax, but thing will get better. by the way, you did say they're losing. Except it say you were wrong and move on. Next subject.
@Jag4Life ...
I did say I was wrong. Try reading the post directly above yours. No, you didn't call me a dimwit. You just told me "You Lose." Same thing. Like telling me you're not just a Jags fan but a football fan--like the rest of us aren't--and you know more about football than me and the rest of the people on here. Baby, that's the same as saying "dimwit." I'm just more succinct than you. You've already proved that you don't know half what you think you do--including how to take it with class when someone says straight up "You're right. I was wrong to say say your team was losing."
You're absolutely right. "Dimwit" was the wrong term. You're an ass. Move on. Next subject.
Deb:
Obviously, while i was writing my last post, you were writing your last post. Look I'm not getting into a pissing contest with you. I do apologize, you did say you were wrong. If i would have read that post i would have commended you for being straight up and saying you were wrong. That's more than most on here would say if they were wrong. So i've upgraded from dimwit to an ass, whatever floats your boat. Good debate. Lets do this more often, seriously.
@Jag4Life ...
Actually, I don't usually launch with "dimwit," so you were right to call me on that. I just stopped by to slam the NFL and suddenly guys on this thread were calling "stupid," so I was a bit pissy by the time you came along. As for "ass," well, I've said that to my best pals on PFT, so you're in good company there LOL Term of endearment--honest ;-)
Deb,
yes, you are a low-rent, Squealers dirtbag *unt. Now moving on to your ridiculous notions......the NFL cannot do many of the things you say. Yes, they vote on things but many of the things they vote on are shell votes to begin with because the individual means more than the the sum.
1) If what you say is true or what you are proposing would be true, the owners could vote to keep a team from moving. Have they ever done so????NO. Do you know why moron?????because each owner wants the opportunity to move if it ever was required. The NFL cannot and would not ever stop a team from moving because it is in the individual owners best interest to NOT to do so.
2) When has the NFL ever "ripped" a team from one city to move it to anther?????NEVER. They haven't the right to do so.
3) and NO they would never, and never could put a ridiculous age stipulation in there, mainly because most of them are at that age you speak of already.
4) One misspelling does not equate to illiteracy, although a stupid squealers fan might think so given you probably couldn't read or digest many other words in the arguements.
Deb:
"I'm a critic of the NFL using blackouts in this economy to justify moving teams and expanding overseas."
..this is one of the most moronic statements I have ever heard, coming from someone who obviously knows NOTHING about the NFL.
1) The NFL does not move teams, individual owners do.
2) The NFL doesn't use blackouts as a gauge on which teams to move.......beyond stupid
3) I guess you are fully aware of the NFL's global expansion effort?????.........LOL
@golongboyee ...
In addition to being unable to write coherently, spell, or read (because I said nothing about the NFL voting to disallow owners to move teams), you're obviously very disturbed and have a lot of issues with women. I'm not surprised. I doubt you can ever get one to come near you. You're not worth any more of my time, little boy. Rave on.
Deb,
To be clear, no, you didn't say anything about the NFL disallowing owners to move teams......you just said the NFL controls everything regarding the individual franchises.....I just used an example of why that is not true. (i.e., the NFL cannot TELL a franchise what to do)
Too bad you cannot rub 2 brain cells together to come up with a true thought. Your level of thinking is very shallow which is probably why you are totally off on everything you have said in here.
Since you probably do not really fit the classification of a woman, your hypothesis has been proven wrong (once again). Again, not surprised given you are a Squealers fan!
Wow Deb, I see you're making friends all over the place. I guess you got some angry AFC North rivals on here. Well boys, I like my new friend Deb. She knows her sh@t from what i gather so far. Yes the owner decides what is the best move for them and their organization, but if you think for one second the NFL as a whole does not have a say in this decision, you're sadly mistaken.
Somebody on here equated the NFL brand to Quizno's. While you're at it compare Nike to LA Gear, Pizza Hut to Hungry Howies, better yet BMW to Yugo. Amazing!!!!!!!!!!
@Jag4Life ... I can see you're a classy guy like your coach. Love the Steelers, but I'm a Southern girl, and some of those AFC North rivals do have terrible manners. Guess putting up with them is the price of posting on PFT. Meeting fans like you is the reward. Thanks :-)
Well Deb as you know the Jags and the Steelers have had our share of heated battles when we were in the same division. Also the 2007 playoff game was a classic. David Garrard's QB draw had to have to cursing the TV out. I, of course jumped to the ceiling and ran butt-naked around the house.
By the way, I'm a diehard Jag fan, but I like Steeler fan(classy as well) and like watching the Steelers play( shhh, don't tell anybody). See you around :)
jag4life
What decision are you referring to?
If you are referring to the decision to move, you are sadly mistaken. name me ONE time in history when the NFL HAS had a say in this????????
In fact, pretty much everytime they have been on the other side, NOT wanting a franchise to move..........but guess what???
and comparing NFL to Quiznos and any other franchise has its merits......and based in facts...the point being, they are their own entity with ties to a larger foundation (that is the point).....not like Deb the 6lut who wishes things to be so, therefore, they are........if you two morons want to make a point, you need to come prepared with facts, not guesses!
@golongboyee ...
You talk about how we should come prepared with facts if we want to address you. Why would any civilized person ever want to discuss anything with you? The only thing you're able to say to a woman who disagrees with you is that she's stupid, a dirtbag, a slut and a low-rent *unt. Apparently you're incapable of intelligent commentary and that's the whole of your comeback talents. No, I shouldn't have called you illiterate because it did a disservice to illiterates. I've known men who couldn't read, write, or spell, but they still had character and weren't so desperately afraid of the opposite sex that they went ballistic every time a woman dared to open her mouth in their presence.
Obviously you fall into one of two categories:
1) You've been completely imasculated by some overbearing mother, wife, or female boss, and raving anonymously at women like me is the only way you can feel like a man.
2) You regularly abuse whatever pitiful woman happens to be in your life because it's the only way you can get it up ... if you can get it up. The kind of irrational rage you've demonstrated today screams impotence.
What a sad excuse for a man you are. Like I said, I've already wasted enough time on you, but felt the need to put things in perspective before leaving the thread for good. I'm sure you'll just keep raving on without me.
yes Deb, again, change the subject so you don't have to try and defend your lunacy. But I guess that is easier isn't it...........and you wonder why I call you a tramp, whore, slut..........etc.
By your comments it is obvious you are sad, lonely woman who gets off on trying to illustrate her dominance in a man's world (in this forum)
It is obvious that it is you that has the problem with the opposite sex. You are so fixated on it that is all you can talk about.
But, I hope you feel better know....at least your 3 ex-husbands are lucky that they are through with you. Would explain the rage you have for men..........you are truly a sad piece of garbage. .....AND a Squealers fan.........imagine that!!!!!!!!!!!!
golongboyee:
Dude it ain't that serious. Last I check there isn't anyone getting paid on the site. You need to get off the steroids. You are on on some new level shit. You know nothing of this woman and you call her tramp and whore. You call me a moron, that's cool. I'll be a moron. But while you and your tight little choker chain are shooting that next needle in your ass, like cocaine, steriods in a hellava drug. Apparently you like women who wear underwear with d*ck holes in the front. Tell you what, do everyone a favor and the next time instead of typing in profootballtalk.com go to your usual site mens-r-us.com and we all can go on about our day. Shoot and score!!!!!!!!!
Jag4life,
You are more of a woman than Deb is.........why dont you grow a pair. You are the typical brave internet poster who in school always got hit in the face playing dodge ball. Geta life and stay out of it. Yes, you are obviously a moron and this is an open forum and I will say what I wish. If you don't like it, go back to masturbating thinking of your dog licking your junk! Go get a job, get out out of your parents basement and get a life. And if I ever decide I like men, i will certainly come to you for advice on where to go online. You seem to be well-versed in that sort of thing......LOL
golongboyee:
"If you don't like it, go back to masturbating thinking of your dog licking your junk!"
Now that's funny, seriously. By the way, today I just got a job, moved out of my parents basement and now have a life. Coincidence, I think not. See you around tough guy!!!
Congrats......hope the junk blisters heal soon!
