The Denver Post stops just short of announcing Chris Simms as Denver’s starting quarterback, but it will take an “overnight medical miracle” for Kyle Orton to get the call.
Mike Klis reports that Orton’s ankle has not recovered enough to play as of Saturday afternoon. The news hardly comes as a shock after Simms took all the practice reps with Denver’s first team offense during the week.
The Broncos are expected to use rookie Tom Brandstater as the team’s backup quarterback against San Diego.
This will mark Simms’ first start since rupturing his spleen as a member of the Buccaneers more than three years ago.
Broncos fan here:
We’re screwed.
Hey Bolt Daddy. Why is it that San diego players and fans do so much jawing? The team is a bunch of over rated, over celebratory, under achiever cry babies. SAN DIEGO IS THE ONLY AFC WEST TEAM NOT TO WIN A SUPER BOWL! Also, Denver smacked your team down in their own house. Child please!
Chris Simms performance last week was an ABOMINATION. One of the top 5 worst performances by a QB I’ve ever seen. He was a deer in the headlights. Chargers are going to unleash the hounds!!!
Appreciate the objective opinion, bigbolt.
Simms needs a chance how can he be expected to come out and perform with out playing with the number ones
No one thought his dad was any good either
Just think Bronco fans.
Your team has to decide if Kyle Orton is worth paying big time QB money for after this season.
You either overpay for him and find out that he is just average at best or you have Simms as the guy to replace Cutler after all.
Are you laughing?
@check1one: My guess is because NFL fans have tired of hearing about your ‘glory days’ that occurred a decade ago. Please explain how the ‘glory days’ have helped the Broncos during their month long losing streak.
Say hello to loss #4 in a row Bronco fans.
No way Denver shells out a chunk of cheese for Orton after this season. They’ll take Bradford or McCoy, bank on it.
Welcome to the Orton Bears fans dealt with last year. Still your savior?
P.S. He is going to be a jittery little b**ch in the pocket once he returns, check his stats from last year after his injury.
Lights Out!
Yeah, I’m still laughing. Why does everybody forget that Orton was really a throw in in the deal? Nobody traded Jay Cutler for Kyle Orton, even if KO was McD’s favorite of the choices. Whatever he does is gravy. The meat is Robert Ayers, the flexibility to pick Knowshon Moreno, the top 1/3rd draft pick the Broncos look to have in the bag, and the return of heart and a team mentality to Denver. I laugh every time I remind myself of that. Lopsided deals like that should be illegal or something.
Broncos fans he’ll b fine. It makes a big difference practicing with the number 1s
Pretty sure Garcia could walk off the street, not know the playbook, have a bad case of the flu, and still do better than Simms.
But Simms is McDaniels guy and God knows Josh’s ego is the main thing.
Can’t wait to watch Berger shank more punts.
Simply Brilliant

Super is a fine ambassador for the modern Broncos fan. Loud and whiny but totally clueless to the football part of things. The die hard McD haters that are now turning Brett Kern into a saga have at least enlightened us to what they value in QB’ing and punting: “Ahhh, looks at ‘er, missy. Dat done ball flying sooooooo purdy!!!! He done makes ‘er go so far. It gives me a swellin’ feelun….” Then they blame the resulting interceptions and long returns on anybody but the QB or the punter.
Thank god fate took me away from there before Denver disintegrated from a great sports town into Philly sans the knowledge.

Not knowing anything about Josh McDaniels is akin to not knowing anything about herpes. Being an expert on some things is baaaaaaaad.
