Pro Bowl will have intriguing dynamic this year

As some of you noticed when we posted an item on the leading vote getters in the early stages of the Pro Bowl balloting process, some of the guys who are destined to play in Miami in late January won’t be playing in Miami in late January because they’ll be playing in Miami in early February.

This year, because the Pro Bowl will be played before the Super Bowl, players from the team who make it to the Super Bowl won’t be playing in the Pro Bowl.

Still, the Pro Bowl will be much more intriguing this year, simply because it will be played before the season has ended and football fans have moved on to other things, like spending time with their families and, you know, showering.

For this year at least, it’s the kickoff to Super Bowl week, and it will have far more buzz than usual.

So we’ll be packing up the ’68 VW bus a few days early for the drive to South Florida.

I hope it can make it that far.

If you want to join us there, buy a ticket and make your plans now.  At the game, I’ll be giving out coupons for free one-year subscriptions to PFT.

  1. Intrigue? It may increase viewership by a small percentage, but intrigue? This game should be changed to an all-pro dinner and highlights event.

sarcasm doesn’t always go through in writing. But maybe if you switched to sprint, watched a little more NBC, and apparently had some major stuff to do with seinfeld, Florio would be able to bring in enough to keep the site free….
    tool.

  3. So what you are really saying is it it safe for the Viking fans to continue to stuff the ballot box to see their favorite players actually play in the Pro Bowl. (independent of whether they deserve to be there)

  4. You know, he’s not kidding when he says he’s gonna pack up his ’68 VW bus.
    He calls it his Hack-mobile.

  5. the only INTRIGUE to this years Pro Bowl, will be the over/under on how many players bow out of the game, especially since it’s not in Hawaii, and the lamest excuses?

  6. How many players of the Super Bowl teams are actually going to play in the game and risk getting injured in a meaningless game, possibly affecting their status in a not-so-meaningless game?

Ummm, the answer is NONE, see the “logic” as reported above.

  8. Someone better tell the Jets the Pro Bowl is in January.
Their coach seemed to think that the playoffs were this summer with the Super Bowl in Week 2.
That would make their Week 11 game, now that the Jets season is effectively over, against the Patriots their Pro Bowl.

  9. You didn’t notice this when they announced this months ago? The Pro Bowl will be worse than usual. First, it’s in Miami. Ooh wow it would be really awesome to go down there [sarcasm]. And the Super Bowl teams with lots of stars will hold out their players. So the really good players would not want to risk injury in a meaningless exhibition watched by like 1000 people in the entire country. I really wish they moved it back to normal.

  10. Lets see… Since the best teams Usually have the best players.. And the Best teams go to the superbowl…Most of the best players will be unavailable for the Probowl. So the probowl will no longer represent the Best of the Best. It will be represented by the Worst of the Best, or the best of the mediocre..

  11. They could easily have two weeks of voting at the end of the year to make it somewhat interesting. Voting at mid-season is a joke, just like the game itself.
Having it the week before the superbowl makes it even more laughable.
