Broncos admit to overconfidence

When the Denver Broncos won their sixth straight game to open the season, at San Diego on October 19, the football-watching world became convinced that they were a great team.

Unfortunately, the Denver Broncos became convinced of it, too.

Three losses later, they’re scrambling to get things back on track.

We got away from what we were doing, which was fundamental,
complementary, team football,” Broncos cornerback Andre’ Goodman tells Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com.  “We got off to this great start and started feeling that we were this
great team all of a sudden.  That wasn’t how we got to 6-0.  We were
feeling ourselves too much.  [Editor's note:  Not that there's anything wrong with that.]  We’ve got to get back to basics.”

Without naming names, center Casey Wiegmann said that one or more of his teammates decided to abandon the concept of team.  “We’re not playing as a team more than anything,” Wiegmann told Marvez.  “Guys started doing
individual-type stuff.  We’re trying to get that broken up and get back
into the team philosophy.”

Contributing to the problem was a bye week after the San Diego game, which gave the Broncos a chance to reflect on their accomplishments.

“We didn’t come back with that same fire and attention to detail,”
Holliday said. “You hate to say it, but you know the old saying, ‘You
drink the Kool-Aid?’  We got full of it.”

As of October 19, the Broncos’ only real accomplishment was to guarantee that their record for 2009 would be no worse than 6-10.  The way they’ve been playing, that’s exactly what it might be.

And that still will be better than what many expected from this team.

It was kind of funny to hear the “going undefeated” talk 3 weeks ago.

I despise the Broncos, but compliment them for confirming that the majority of talking heads on television and radio are idiots.

The Broncos could go to the Super Bowl. The coach is the youngest genius ever. Kyle Orton is going to Canton……There’s a reason they play ALL 16 games.

Especially those that praised Orton and his 5 yard passes so much.

I’m glad to be re-assured that Josh McDaniels is indeed a crappy coach. Problems like this is purely sourced from the Head Coach, with Bill Belichek being possibly the greatest of all time at making his teams feel they are being undermined with something to prove no matter how big a favorite they are going into a game.
I think the reason for the 6-0 start was more on Nolan as defensive coordinator and some other favorable factors that McDaniels was able to benefit from.
Josh McDaniels still sucks, and Kyle Orton has never put together two consecutive seasons in his career without falling apart.

He said they’re feeling themselves too much

The other reason for the 6-0 start was the opposing teams had no film on them…. plus some pretty crappy competition… the Browns, the Raiders… It took a few games for teams to get a good film study of what McDouhie was doing and how they were rollin with Nolan… once the league saw what they were doing and got some film on them… they’ve looked bad.. especially the offense… McDouchie’s “expertise”…. Now add Chris Simms into the mix… this has bad written all over it for Bronco fans….

What the last 3 weeks have shown is, to paraphrase Dennis Green, “the Broncos ARE who we THOUGHT they were!!”

Josh left his master too soon….he’s still just an apprentace & not yet a Jedi Master like BB…..

and that’s why they play the games.

Hey, how many Broncos fans thought this team wouldn’t even win 6 games the whole season after they traded the “franchise QB “(snicker)? Too early to judge after 6 games…still too early to judge IMO.
Cutler, however, IS exactly who McDaniels thought he was. On that he was absolutely correct.
